Unexpectedly active online games on XBL/PSN

Last night I had a great session of games on Street Fighter 3rd Strike : Online Edition. I rarely played the same person twice. This is a huge surprise, as the game took a nose dive out the gate for its poor online implementation. When the patch came out, people said "too little too late", but they're wrong. Lots of people playing.

Anyone like to suggest other older/written-off games that still have a very active online community?

Are there patch noted of what was fixed?

Do options finally effect Arcade mode?

Halo Wars is still pretty active despite being 3 years old and a console RTS. I still see an average of around 5k people on every day!

Is Uno still active?

"Unexpected" kind of a given regardless, though.

I know the PS3 version is not active at all. Occasionally, you'll get a random person or 2.

I don't know if it's unexpected but Fat Princess is still active even though it has slowed down recently.

cant speak to any games currently, but on the original xbox Crimson Skies and Rainbow Six 3 had a very active community well after release, even long after Halo 2's release

I don't remember Crimson Skies having an active community. I loved the game, but, never found any matches and that pissed me off so much.

i never owned crimson skies but i did rent it and had a lot of fun playing it online. is there anything close to that on 360?

Snoopy Flaying Ace apparently. It's actually pretty good. Not that I've bought it myself (busy with other games) but the trial was really good.

Last I checked Wipeout was still rather active.

Issue is that everyone that still plays is incredible at it and will destroy your ass. So it might as well not be active.

I've got a handful of old 360 games I try and find players for, but it never happens. SFII Hyper, Switchball, Crackdown 1, etc. So many multiplayer achievements gone unachieved.

CoD4 is still alive and kicking on PSN.

But filled with hackers. :(

This, I was like I might be the only one... Nope, I went HOLY FUCK!, How is this even possible?

Games that are not even a year old, are barren/dormant, UT3 still kicking LOL

Doesn't hurt it has Keyboard/Mouse support and light mod support.

Too bad those mods kick the trophies off though. :( Had to spend three years since they introduced the trophies to off and on play UT3 to platinum and I got sick of base deathmatch. :(

The last time I logged into Singularity (PS3) online there were a few people playing. Not many, but still a few. Probably trying to get that platinum trophy, which is the stuff of nightmares.

Just for shits and giggles about a week ago at my friends house I made him connect his PS2 so I can play Socom 2 online and was very surprised to see over 100 people still playing.
I know, not PSN or XBL.

Was just going to say this one.
Just tried it some moments ago and was surprised that there were 5k+ people playing that moment. Did a quickmatch without much wait too. Heck, I've seen "bigger" releases during launch with 5k people, so it was quite a surprise a console RTS 3 years later with that number. :p

I always wonder how Home is such a failure when people constantly use it? It always shows up on a list of things Sony did wrong but it can't be wrong if it gets used right?

Both Rainbow Six Vegas games still have pretty active communities.

No one touches ranked matches tho

it always scares me when I try to play an online match of some old random game just to see if someone is out there.......and then someone is on the other side.....and I'm thinking, THERE IS ACTUALLY SOMEONE OUT THERE IN THIS WORLD PLAYING THIS RIGHT THIS MOMENT??? O_o

About two years ago people (very few) were still playing Prey online... I wonder if there's anyone still playing.

who want's to play Prey?

Marble Blast Ultra was active on XBLA for quite a while. Anyone played it recently? I deleted it a long time ago, but I was surprised at its longevity (and how much dumb fun it was).

I believe Fat Princess is still active, which is weird because when it came out it has so many issues a lot of people quit trying.

When I first got this I was amazed that so many people were playing. And then I realised they were all bots :(

As for Warhawk, I wish the Aussie servers were still active. Goddamn I love that game.

Yeah that was the issue, you could never connect with other people it always placed you with a room full of bots and maybe a few players, by the time they patched it a lot of people had moved on but I read somewhere (IGN?) that Fat Princess was very much still alive and kicking.

Lost Planet was always a good surprise for me. One of those games that might've been great more for the community than the game itself. Not sure if people still play, but it was a fun thing while it lasted.
