I updated the Paramount thread a long time ago with the new Universal logo. This is indeed pretty old news. 4 months old.

Disney dont do those logos in house - it was Weta. I dont know who did Paramounts - but it could have been ILM and thats one of better works.

You notice that in the Universal intro - and all of the other NBC intros, they all uses some sort of glassy or slide in type of thing... well if you guessed it's by design. I wish more 3D people use this as a stepping stone for better CGI intros but Weta never tells much.

Really liked it, very 'epic'. Though the beginning looks very real and cool, then it dives into the fake look all over. Still, looking forward to seeing this for the next few decades.

This seems like the thread to ask this in. I seem to remember a universal logo in front of one my vhs tapes (maybe ET or BttF or something) where the letters would slowly scroll horizontally across the screen. Inside each letter, you'd see scenes from famous movies like Jaws and BttF. Anyone remember this or know where I can find it?

They're missing a few. The ones from last couple of years have been pretty good. The newest one is a little grandiose.

The movies that followed it were decent but it's weak compared to something like a 70's Golden Harvest or one of the big boys.

The snare drums definitely need more reverb...

Also, the old United Artists logo from the mid-to-late nineties will always be the best. Used to complement the Bond films so well... even if the films were pretty terrible, sans GoldenEye.

It has "THIS IS HUGE" written all over it, something I really appreciate when I'm going to watch a movie on the big screen.

I've really loved the logo updates from the major movie studios over the last few years. Disney's is probably still my favorite overall, but Paramount's newly unveiled logo from last year was also suitably epic.

The difference being this one looks really nice.

The Universal one in the OP just looks tacky.

I think there modeling work helps a lot with the 3D work. Just an obvervation.

Its possible that we cant hear the two drum beats they wanted two weaker drums to have that beat and the mic couldnt pick it up.

It looks really bad as a still frame, but in moving video it looks fantastic.

Not as good as the new Paramount one, but the camera movements and the new orchestra really made it come alive.

A little too overdone for me. And then I think of a movie like Star Trek or something else where they overdub the music from the companies logos with the films score and I think the logo will be even more jarring without the epic score behind it.

Fox updated their indent in the last couple of years though, with a new CG one. It's pretty good, not much different really.

Come to think of it, that logo debuted for its 75th anniversary in 1990. So aren't they still about 3 years off from their centennial anniversary?
