Universe might be on the brink of collapse, possibly already collapsing

Complete respect to their dedication and hard work in the field of physics.

But I do not think any mere man can truly understand what the universe is doing. Much less tell us it's going to compress into nothing.

"The sky is falling."

My question is: Does it really matter. Whether the Universe goes on forever and freezes or collapses and get crunched; it can't be possible to develop technology to save ourselves, can it, granted humans are still around by that time?

Pretty fascinating stuff. Everything could just end at any point. I suppose if it started to happen far enough away, we could see it coming. Wouldn't that be crazy? Seeing the stars disappearing knowing the whole universe is collapsing and there's nothing you can do.
The Silence Is Coming.

I have trouble believing this. Too many "could, probably, possibly", I need more studies on this. Interesting though.

The entire big crunch theory isn't that strong; for now what we know is that the universe is expanding and its expansion is accelerating.

Yeah this is my pov as well.

Time to cash in those Dogecoins.

Fixed.

Not worried I'm sure Sam and McKay are on it.

Fuck them they're useless. Rush will know how to stop it but will instead choose to let it happen, then Eli will find out what he's up to just in time.

Am I the only guy who clicked on this expecting it to be about Universal Studios going bankrupt? That would make for a more interesting topic to discuss.

If it happened at light speed, it would take 14 billion+ years to engulf the current observable universe, that is if it ceases expansion in that time.

It would but we still would never actually notice or feel it. We would never be able to see it.

Alive one minute, dead the next.

Are we under the assumption that it would happen locally and spread across the universe or does it happen to all particles at the same instant?

Precursors lived before the universe and they'll live after its collapse.

Fuck everyone else!

Maybe a collapsed is starting right now right here here
I feel like this sentence is incomplete. Did some missing words get sucked into the vortex that the article is talking about? Is the vortex alive and sentient and trying to hush up the media?

I chuckle to think that people think that we little specks of nothing on earth have the whole universe figured out.

So... our universe is just a reoccurring, pulsating cycle - expanding, collapsing and expanding again...

So... our universe could be like... the trillionth iteration of a universe.

It might be collapsing already, or it might never collapse. What a nice way to sum it up.

their theory says the universe doesn't collapse, it gets consumed by a new one.

No collapse, no shrinking, just loneliness:

So how will the Universe end? The force of dark energy will continue to accelerate the expansion of the Universe until distant galaxies disappear. Galaxies will use up all the gas and dust for stars and go dark, perhaps becoming black holes. Those black holes will decay and maybe matter itself will decay into pure energy. The entire Universe will become a cold, quiet place, where single photons are stretched across light years of space.

DonÂ’t worry, though, that wonÂ’t be for quadrillions of years from now.

All due to dark energy pushing everything further apart.

I love how whenever there are multiple candidates as potential "endgame scenarios" for our Universe, some people always manage to pick the most cold/hopeless looking one. Bravo! :P

It's kind of beautiful to me. But it's also 6:30 am on a cold Monday morning, By 3:00 pm, with the sun out, I may like the collapse and explosion theory more.

What is beauty without a potential for an observer to see it all? Those photon lengths might not be ideal for forming consciousness, but hey... :D
