Unofficial Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Thread

Koji Kondo IS doing the soundtrack, there was an article on TP before E3 (can't remember where, think it was Nintendo Power) that mentioned that he frequently listens to fan renditions of his music and has even borrowed a few ideas for TP.

Kondo is the sound director on Zelda: TP so he will be approving and picking the tracklist for the game. The soundtrack itself is done by several composers. Even most smaller Nintendo games have two composers now. EAD Soundgroup for the win.

Is he performing the same role for TP as he did for NSMB? Because that soundtrack was pretty disappointing to be honest.

I mean, Kondo has been involved in a lot of mediocre soundtracks. A lot! However, I can tell you that Twilight Princess BGM's so far are insanely good. I also heard a few Super Mario Galaxy tunes, and heard a few tracks that reminded me of Super Mario 64 Dire Dire Docks good.

Amazering!!

But I wonder how it would work exactly. Would it be a different season every day or something?

And that Summer shot looks ****ing GORGEOUS!

Nice observation there. I would love to see Hyrule covered in snow :) Eh all of a sudden i'm getting Secret of Mana Winter land stage vibe.

I hope you can play as Zelda as well in TP. That would rock, i like Zelda.
She could use a sword and her magic powers.

I don't know whether they implemented this idea in the final game, but at least it existed ;)

So many people and not even one that comes close to Soyo Oka or Hirokazu Tanaka. I say get rid of everyone except Asuka Ohta (I liked the SPP soundtrack).

I say get Yuka Tsujiyoko's team at Intelligent Systems to do the damned soundtrack.

Well...

Akito Nakatsuka
Punch-Out and Zelda II......

Kenji Yamamoto
Brain-Age, Metroid Prime 1, Metroid Prime 2, Super Metroid, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion,

Hey Shikamaru Ninja who was the composer of the Animal Crossing GC & DS versions music? those have some pretty neat music.

"Neat" is not what Twilight Princess needs.

All due respect to the guy, but Kondo's team can't handle Twilight Princess. Tsujiyoko and her people need to be brought in. :D

I never played Fire Emblem, but based on the Paper Mario soundtracks I would say "dear god, no!". ;)

Ok, I'll have to give Nakatsuka some credit, since Punch Out and Zelda II had some great music. I'm no big fan of Yamamoto, however. He's a 'one or two good tracks per game' kind of guy, IMO. :x

You need to listen to the Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance soundtrack. The stuff she did for Paper Mario is of a totally different style... it's a Mario soundtrack. Listen to PoR. It is how Twilight Princess should sound.

I wasn't even refering to Zelda TP , it was an off-topic question.

Different seasons would be the pinnacle of this game however I think those screen shots are from different areas in the game. I think season changing would be too much for the GC and wii to handle. Of course, if the wii version had changing seasons and the gc didn't, that would pretty much solidify my decision :)

I don't know. Having heard the pieces of music in the trailers so far, and Ninja's praise for what he has heard, I really do think there is still potential for greatness from these people.

He's THE man. Snes Mario Kart and F-Zero X for the win. I didn't even think he was still alive; what has been he doing in last years? I don't remember him credited in any recent game.

I'm pretty sure it's the same area, but in different videos/playthroughs.

edit: in fact, I just checked, and it definitely is the same area, and it definitely is in different seasons.

This is a capture from Gccafe vid (sorry for the fuzzyness, source vid is a bit lowres, but what is important should be visible).

Do we know if that's even the case?
No, we don't. :(

The only piece of orchestrated music we have for this game is this, far as I know. Kondo did say that he wanted to do it, after all the good responses he got for the trailer music last year. But after that, I don't think anything has been said about it.

You mean you've heard tracks no one else has? :O
Are they really catchy?

EDIT: Looks like each time the demo booted up, it was a different season, so the press didn't know the seasons changed. :lol

Everytime I convince myself I have the willpower to hold off on this game for over five more months, I see a thread like this and completely lose it.

OMG! yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOTY ****ing easily.

Changing seasons is the one thing I've always hoped would be put in a Zelda game. If the above screens truly indicate that, then I am indeed a happy gamer.

I really hope a winter season is included as well - can you imagine how gorgeous that would look?

Isn't Link supposed to grow older as the game progresses? Sort of like Fable, but not retarded. (Oh I'll spend a bunch of exp points wow I am 20 years older in 5 minutes amazing!)

Aonuma said Link would "mature" throughout the game. Not sure if he meant age-wise or wisdom-wise.

I think some other game can have GOTY since this will be beating OOT for Best Game of All Time.

Y'know, as a runner-up or something.

Also, those ground textures look spectacular. Looks like Nintendo reads GAF.

Yeah, Okami will be GOTY.

Very cool ... though it seems like there's no winter, heh.

I think looking at those graphics ... on the Wii you should easily be able to add higher-res textures and higher poly characters models ... no it won't look like the PS3 stuff per se, but it certainly isn't going to look "bad" by any means either.

I also have to give EAD a lot of credit ... when they swithced back to the realistic style, a lot of people said the game would be too drab/dull looking as a result ... but seeing shots like that and shots of the wolf ... this game just has a great use of color.

Terrific art design ... dare I say, Nintendo's best ever.

It's either different seasons or the spreading influence of the twilight realm (The bloom is supposed to be for the twilight realm, right?)

We've seen snow pictures already (although only a few). Who knows if they're winter or just regular old snowy mountains :)

If you're talking about the summer picture, that's just a result of a slightly crappy video capture, and a low res source picture being blown up in size by me to match the IGN pic, for easier comparison. It isn't Twilight Realm bloom.

Silly question, but can someone go over the pros and cons of midi vs. orchestrated music? Is it really that big of a difference for the average person? Examples to games who use each one effectively would be great as well.

Pro:
http://cube.ign.com/articles/627/627737p1.html

Con:
Orchestrated is more expensive to record, and takes more discspace. There are also people who actually prefer the midi sound to real instruments, but those people are few, and far between.

He's right. Okami is the other 3D Zelda coming out this year.

3rd place will be Zelda DS.

Then the normal games.
Nah. Zelda TP will be GOTY, then Guitar Hero 2, then Okami
maybe
. Everything else is irrelevant.

Oblivion said:
I personally don't mind that it's midi, but some better samples and good compositions help.
Well, I don't really mind midi soundtracks either. A good composer can still do amazing things with them. But it's just that an orchestrated recording sound so much fuller, and richer, that it would make me really, really happy if at least some of TP's soundtrack is recorded that way.
