Unsuccessful Wii lineup: Who else didn't get one?

Have you ever been in a Walmart late at night? It's all janitors and stockers who have no ****ing clue what's going on. So unless someone put a flashing neon sign on the Wii pallet in back, they'll go right back and get you one.

I learned this by thinking I needed to semi-camp for versions of the GBA and DS. Everytime, no one showed up and the systems weren't out on the shelves.
When I bought one at midnight, the boxes had a giant, green "DO NOT SELL UNTIL 11/19!!!" sticker on them. I wouldn't be surprised if they had another big green sticker for Black Friday.

Man, I was so lucky. I just got to Target at 6:30 am with a friend and we only had to wait half an hour to get our tickets. They had 39 units, we were 38 and 39. Had we arrived there just ten minutes later we would have been 40 and 41. What luck. :D

Oh boy, they better not hold them until black Friday, because there is no ****ing way I'll buy anything on that day.

It's related to slavery and the reparations African Americans get in the form of nationwide discounts. Or post-Thanksgiving early bird sales. I forget.

Yeah, I won't even be around to try and buy one on Friday. Going to the Chiefs/Broncos game on Thanksgiving so we'll be hungover driving around then. I'm assuming my buddy and his wife aren't going to want to pull over in every exit and let me look at all the stores.

Through a guy at work, I'm now in touch with a Walmart electronics employee. He's supposed to call when they get a shipment in. If they try and pull the Black Friday shit, I'll just do my janitor thing like I mentioned earlier.

Lucked out tremendously. Got to Bestbuy quarter til 8am, when they started giving out tickets. Out of the 100 systems in stock, I was ticket #91. Had I arrived 10 minutes later I would have been turned down. People were coming in droves over the following 1-2 hours, all being told stock is spoken for.

Stores are referred to as being "in the red" if they're losing money, and "in the black" if their revenues exceed their expenses. So "Black Friday," the Friday after Thanksgiving is traditionally a day for big promotional sales to bring customers into stores, beginning the very profitable month for Xmas gift sales.

The Walmart we went too had about 100 people in line we were around 40ish and according to the lady they came out to talk to us they didn't have any idea how many they had and wouldn't know until they counted at 11:45am. Well 12 o'clock rolls around and they tell us they have 20... So i go home dejected, my friends then went over to best buy at 6 30 in the morning to buy theirs while I slept.

Now you've encouraged him to paste the same message three times before he gets an answer. Or you got him to shut up and are a hero...

Sorry but I'm having some troubles with my internet connextion. I've tried deleting them using the edit/del button but I only can edit them :/ Really don't know how to delete them.

Well, my friend and I went to Citywalk and saw the thousand person line, and knew that it would be pointless to stay, so we left.

The next day we went to literally FIFTEEN stores (EB/GS, CC, BB, TRU, Walmart, Target), and every single one of them was sold out. We couldn't even find any available copies of Zelda either. On the plus side, the attach rate for it should be feckin HUGE.

I lucked out of a Nintendo Wii yesterday. I went late to both Toys R Us and Nintendo World Store in NYC. But today I got mad lucky. I strolled into Toys R Us and was able to pick up a Wii and Zelda.

From what i heard--- if you live in NYC and didn't get a Wii, show up to NWS or ToysRus tomorrow because they will be selling more Wiis. Go early because today they stopped selling Wiis on 345pm at ToysRus (44st one).

Well I just found a copy of Zelda at Gamestop which made me happy. I hadn't seen it anywhere when I was running around yesterday. Now if some asshat would just get a 2nd Wii shipment and Nintendo ships the component cables, we'll be good to go.

Thanks for the info. Are both stores sold out tonight? I was hoping to go up there but I guess I gotta wake up tomorrow and go.

It does not hurt to check. I checked today and was able to buy one. I think they are only selling certain amount per day at the Toys R Us on 44th street and Times Square. The thing that really pissed me off was this lady with her son buying like 4 systems. Supposedly according to the people working there she bought couple of systems on Sunday too. The employees were thinking about stopping her but could not reach a quick consensus and by then she bought those systems.

WTF? Nearly every chain I've been to has stated 1 per customer explicitely.

I posted this in the official thread, but I've seen reports on the Amazon discussion board that Wii was in plentiful supply at the Times Square TRU. The last "positive sighting" was almost a half-hour ago though. Several thousand were purported to be available, and the line was short.

If you're nearby, it probably wouldn't hurt to go check.

If only I was nearby... :(

damnit I want one. Every place is sold out here and wal-mart's not getting it til next week so I wonder if that goes for the other stores too? Bah.

Fools I told you about this. I snagged one today at like 10:30 AM. The line was about 100 people long when I got there.

:D There were a ton of systems there, and I have a feeling nintendo will be restocking them constantly this whole week. REMEMBER if you need a Wii TRU AT 44th STREET IN TIMES SQUARE HAVE A CONSTANT STOCK

You'd think they'd be doing the same thing for the Gamestop in Universal City... damn it.

So if this whole 'Hold Till Black Friday' thing is true, will Wal Mart being selling Wii's at 12:01 again?

As far as I know (I worked at Walmart for some time), all Walmarts open at either 5 or 6 am Black Friday; if it's a 24 hour Walmart, they close at midnight the night before to prep the store and get the doorbusters out on the floor. It'd be a little hard to do a big black friday sale if the store never closed, everyone would just show up at midnight, but there'd be no stock on the floor and it would just be a nightmare.

Only time walmart(24hr) closes here is for christmas and new years. Usually 7 pm. Then back open at 6 am.

What store? As far as I know that's company wide. That also doesn't make any sense, since there's usually a ton of computers and TVs and whatnot that are backstocked, then put on the floor overnight as doorbusters. If they stayed open, everyone would just start hanging around inside the store before midnight, and it'd be impossible to get items to where they need to go without people mobbing them.

Yup, that's where I got mine from. :) Luckily, my folks happened to be on a weekend trip to New York. Really wished I asked them to pick up an extra controller... but didn't want to make it any more confusing than neccesary. Little did I know the peripherals would be equally scarce.

I've been checking out Target because they're the most abundant store in my area (SoCal), and they're all sold out. None of them know when a new shipment is coming in. I also called Toys R Us and they're all out. Supposedly there's a shipment sometime December or so.

I'm considering going into the city to get one. It helps that I love the place and wish I could spend my whole life there.

Crap, right now I got two choices.
1. Take a bus to NY and hit up NWS(just got off the phone, they open tomorrow at 7am and will be restocked) or TRU and wait in a line of possible hundreds to thousands and still get a Wii
2. Wait until the crap stores here in DC, VA & MD make some last minute announcement or none at all on when they will have more in stock and maybe get their and be number 50 out of a line of 49 people but the store only has 10 Wii's.

Does anyone know when EB, Target, Best Buy, Walmart, etc will re-stock and sell in the DC, VA & MD area?

lol

I would get it for you guys, but theyve mandated a limit on the Wii's, plus I burned 400 bucks on peripherals + wii+ the warranty today..

Damn.

This is ridiculous. I've had an easier time tracking down PS3s. If Nintendo is able to keep a constant stock in New York, why aren't they able to supply any other retail stores around the country? I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the search.
