Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

Well I decided to pick up a used copy locally in Flushing (NYC) for about $30. I know it's a mediocre game but in general I always loved the action-rpg evolution of gauntlet. Well even bigger than that is one of my friends owned the game and there is the theoretical "oh yeah lets play this online man".

Unfortunately, this game could have been really great. I think everyone is in for a rude awakening the minute they start up the game and see a lame selection of three generic characters with no customization or class variety available.

But. What I am really interested in is if the developer is going to make promise on delivering some type of DLC upgrades. SCE has adamantly supported Resistance and Motorstorm, but this game seems to have been lost in the shuffle.

Does anyone care to share some information or goods/bads about this game?

What did my head in was the almost absence of loot and stuff that had affect on your appearance. That sort of game is all about the loot and there was maybe 5 different outfits the whole game.

Haven't played the game, but remember that this game was developed by SOE and it is their decision on whether they want to put up DLC. I don't think SCE has any say in it at all.

My question to you is was it worth $30? Does the online co-op work?

I mean okay. Is the game worth it? Right now I think its a nice game. You know although i would give it a 6, because its rather straightforward in design, it is still enjoyable and playable because of it's mindless simplicity.

For example, if you think Kameo is average (like me), you are not going to spend a single second trying to find something, or figure a puzzle out. But because you are almost mindless playing through this game, the mediocrity is excusable.

It would have been much better if the developers spent more time making it a deeper action-rpg. Not so linear, have a couple of towns, have WAY more classes/character/customization available.

Oh and the story is surprisingly not bad.

Online I have not been able to try yet.

I have not played the game but I will say this for the genre. For some reason devs think that it is ok to put out a game that offers less than whats already out there. If they can't even compete with a six year old game, Diablo II, they shouldn't even bother.

Don't bother.

I'm a huge fan of the series (by which I mean I don't loathe it like everyone else seems to), but the PS3 incarnation is a turd, plain and simple.

Perhaps I should have read something into the fact that my local GAME had a pre-owned copy available the afternoon it was released...

Yikes, considering how stale and tired the PSP iterations were, I was never brave enough to buy the PS3 game.

I don't know I have been playing this. But i been chipping away at it.

But here are some thoughts.

- Are my suspicions true? You can't load your character and stats when joining someone's online game? WTF. This is by a developer called "SONY Online"?
- Online won't even work. I keep getting a stupid network error.
- The most mindless gameplay I have ever witnessed.
- How can you mess up a game like this? Didn't this same team make Champions of Norrath? Was Champions of Norrath better? Was it this short sighted?

Rushed game. I remember how they had to scrap a lot of things and made the game in a year or something. It needed another year at least. :p

It seems like it shouldn't be that hard to make a decent Diablo clone, but there's sure a mountain of evidence that suggests otherwise.

I bought this game for $30 shortly after the PS3 launch. I played it once for an hour or two and then put it away for months. I recently started playing it again and to be honest its not that bad. I know the game is flawed in so many ways but I still have fun playing with the mindless combat.

The game is so buggy. It baffles me as to why it was made into a launch title. I saw the potential and it hurt me to play it. I'm still fighting to finish it up so that I can sell it.

it is really glitchy and awful. champions of norrath is lightyears better than this trash.

speaking of norrath, what *is* snowblind studios working on these days? hopefully NOT a sequel to justice league.

Titan Quest is pretty solid, and you can get it now for <$20, not for ps3 however, but its not that taxing.

Do anyone know what Snowblind (the developer) is up to these days? I would looove a Champions of Norrath PS3.

Edit: I see Drinky asked the same. Anyone?

2nd Edit: I'm reading their official forums and they are working on something but don't expect a reveal before January or around that time.

I am shocked no Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. Well not yet anyway. But yeah this game had so much potential. I still play it for some reason. It just requires so little effort, that it actually edges out me leaving the game in the PS3 and playing it sporadically

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Champions of Norrath

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel

Rate them people. But yes I am really hoping for a really cool console Diablo style action RPG with awesome multiplayer.

Yeah, this game is a real disappointment, and I like the first two Untold Legends PSP games. You're better off just playing Champions and Baldur's Gate PS2 on PS3 if you want something in the same vein.

How is Marvel Ultimate Alliance on PS3, anyway? I know the 360 version has downloadable content, but I don't really care about those characters. Are there any other differences?

I didn't like Fallout; the straight overhead perspective made things confusing. BG DA2 isn't bad, but it's not a Snowblind game; they went on to make the Champions games, which I enjoyed. The two games are almost identical though.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance was awesome on XBOX 360. Well let me rephrase, it doesn't take advantage of the hardware so much, but the game itself is quite enjoyable. I was disappointed by the online mode, but I played and beat the game by myself.

It does a great job of putting you in the marvel universe. I just hope the game continues to evolve.

I've rented it and i've been so annoyed after a couple of hours that it was set, i don't like that game. It felt rushed, looked horrible, sluggish controls and quite totally generic gameplay.
