Merry Xmas to my fellow arcade fans

What ever happened to the arcade fighter being developed at AM2? Pretty sure a PS3 version was announced as well....

I thought Sega Rally Revo wasn't an arcade game. On another note, I hope Afterburner comes sooner rather than later to home consoles

Oh by the way, this is no way complete, I know of a certain 2D fighting game coming that I'm looking forward to seeing if it makes the jump to high res or not.

Afterburner + Outrun mission structure = good times

I'm keeping an eye on Kikikaikai. Also planning to pick up the Monster World compilation and possibly Galaxy Force 2. I used to love the arcade GF2, but then I got the Saturn port and it wasn't anything like I remembered. Very slow and the scaling was awfully choppy. Maybe my memory is just faulty, I haven't played the arcade game in about 15 years or so.

.. oh, and Outrun 2 SP under PS2? Wasn't that already included with Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast? I know it was on the PSP-version.

Afterburner Climax better get ported to 360/PS3. That shitty PSP project can't be the only planned release, can it?

I wonder if SEGA's Wii gun game is HOTD4?

Why is Hyper SFII listed there when it's been out since 2003, and the CapKore version out since 12/6/06?
Some stuff is outdated (VF Anniversary already released too, NGBC 360 was canceled) and some stuff doesn't even seem to be actual arcade games (KOFMI3, Sega Rally Revo, etc). Also, why no XBLA/VC/PSN stuff?

I'm pretty sure KOF-XI is being released outside Japan (for PS2), and Capcom Puzzle World will be out in 2007 as well (for PSP).

Plus isn't Fatal Fury scheduled to be released on Live Arcade, and is SNK still planning download-able games for the PlayStation Network.. ?!

Lots of stuff is missing (if they're going for arcade-ish games rather than proper AC ports/conversions exclusively)... Bubble Bobble Double Shot being one of the top of my head (they included Rainbow Islands PSP though).

I think that Namco would release Time Crisis 4 for PS2 instead of PS3 unless the rumors of Time Crisis 4 being upgraded and released somewhere near the Euro PS3 launch are true (GUNCON 3!). Me needs to play the unlockable Captain Rush scenario ala Alicia Winston scenario from Time Crisis 3 PS2. Time Crisis 10th anniversary :-(

Something tells me I'm going to regret asking, but what in the world is this?

Samurai Spirits: Denshi Maid Techou: Koi no Iroha

Character from a shoot 'em up I think. But this isn't an arcade port I think. According to IGN:

"In this unique title, you raise Iroha, the maid character from Samurai Spirits, and have her manage your schedule. The title can be used both as a game and as scheduling software. Main illustrator Takkun revealed that players can expect 100 or so pieces of clothing."

afaik, Ignition should be publishing most of SNK's titles over in Europe. KOF XI and KOF2006 are scheduled for Feb/Mar 2007. As for Fatal Fury, I remember reading somewhere (perhaps in a neogaf thread....) that it was for the japanese xbla only ..that sounds fishy though.

If virtual cop comes to VC is it going to use the wiimote for aiming because just using the d-pad or analog stick would really suck and be a waste vs using the actual wiimote would be ****ing awesome

Is Dark Resurrection for the PS3 going to be released in the U.S.? I sort of have a good feeling that it will just because of GTHD, but you can never be sure...

damnit, i played some Rondo Rev X in Japan when I was over there, it's such a tease to see that I can't play it in the US on 360

Region Coding sucks ass

Anyone know if Taito Memories will have a version of Operation Wolf that supports a light gun, as opposed to the crap we got with Taito Legends in the U.S.?

Other responses:

I didn't list Metal Slug for Wii because I thought that just came out

Fist of North Star is listed as 3/29 (only a small % had dates on that page so I didn't bother listing them)

Project Psychic's press release was a LONG time ago with no further word so there's a chance that one was canned...it talked a lot about pushing the CELL, etc.

I think Outrun is another re-release (2000 yen type deal...the way the Japanese retail system works they have to re-release games, they get pushed out for new stuff the same way pop idols fade away after a couple months of being popular...the US retail market is almost the same way but not nearly as bad)

As for the dude hating on arcade games, SUCK IT!

Man if you hate on arcade games you are hating on gaming.

Arcade games are totally set up for a rebound on home consoles:

Reasons:

1) Achievements and leaderboards through 360 and PS3. Look at the astounding popularity of Geometry Wars, and what a pure GAME that is. Just nothing but you, your wits, and a bunch of shapes trying to kill you.

2) Downloadable games are way more appropriate for these sort of games rather than paying $59

3) Fighting Games too would be more popular on downloadable services. I think we'll see a breakout of these in 2007 on both XBLA and PS Store (if Sony isn't in "2D hate" mode like in the past).

I totally see why you might be turned off...I hate the checkpoint systems in Sega racing games, it's stupid, if you pay money your game shouldn't end because you tapped a wall in Daytona. You might say "well if you don't pay money, you are given infinite continues and it ruins the gameplay", that is a problem for the arcade ports...how do you give the game some difficulty. Well that's where achievements come in. You can play through w/ 100 continues if you suck and want to just see the whole game, or you can do it without using a single continue and get an achievement for your good work. And maybe eventually you will be on a T-Shirt like the World Gorf Champion is.

Oh and yeah it's a rumored new Gradius PS3 game. I would splooge if that was true, shooters need to "live on". I think all the shooter fans in the world need to pick a freaking console and stick to it. They were on Dreamcast for a while, and eventually were forced to migrate to PS2 and it wasted about half a generation in the process. Since Square released a 360 shooter you'd think it would be a good place, but unfortunately since 360 is "da bombing" in Japan it's a toss up where the hardcore gamers in Japan will give their loyalty to (or maybe they will just grow up and get cell phones/girlfriends).

Shooters will always live on through doujin stuff at the very least, and there have been some stellar ones already.

But did Gradius V Arcade ever materialize? I thought it was canned, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was no arcade Gradius VI.

I hate arcade style games, and I think outside of the hardcore gamer world most people do.

I think most people outside of the hardcore gamer world hate videogames anyway.

My dad loves Berzerk, my uncle loves Galaga, neither of them would play Gears of War. Whatever you say, chief.

Actually arcades are pretty dead in the US, but they are still alive in Japan. It's a pretty big misconception that arcades are dead in Japan. It's not as crazy as it was in the past, but there are a ton of them there compared to here. The economic viability of publishing arcade games versus console/electronically distributed games is the question publishers are now fighting with.

No port of Outrun2 SP for Xbox/Xbox 360? Here's hoping that this is really just speculation...

And Afterburner Climax better come to 360...

By the way, one of the problems with trying to make XBLA successful in Japan that MS would have to overcome, is that EVERY SINGLE popular Japanese arcade game has already been released several times over on PS2. Capcom Generations, Taito Legends, Konami Arcade, Namco Museum et al, you name it, it's been done, and available for WAY cheaper than you could buy them on XBLA - these are some of the games that are easily available used at Tsutaya and Book Off type places. That's why I was kind of groaning when they announced Pac Man like it would have some big impact. I can spend a 500 yen coin to get a disc full of 10 Namco games. The same challenge will exist of course for PS3, but I think Sony is doing the D/L PSX game route, which would certainly be interesting for many folks, but if they look like crap they would probably rather play it on the PS2.

Nintendo is about the only one that gets to play the nostalgia card in their online service.

I would like to see more NEW Japanese games on XBLA and PS Store, like Lumines. Let's get Kenta Cho's stuff on there, for free. Let's get some shooting games, some NEW exclusive fighting games. That will be compelling to Japanese gamers and hopefully spur more and more "arcade-ish" game development over there, outside of the hardcore/otaku band it's currently stuck in. At least make a new Super Puzzle Fighter for gods sake!
