It's all good just after your edit it totally changed your first question. No you don't have to install it. But if you want the new photo viewer then obviously yes you do have to install it.sykoex said:Sorry I'm just surprised that a photo gallery app would be so big that it couldn't be already included in a system update install. But I guess it does a lot so whatever. It'd be cool if it had photo editing/scrapbooking capabilities. Like adding captions, borders, or "stickers".
Dante said:Kind of an odd question, but what is the Life with Playstation icon supposed to look like? It look s like it should be a globe, but mine is like a semi-transparent circle....It's kinda ungly.
I think it might be transparent until you install it. I'm not 100% sure though. Do you have it installed?Dante said:Kind of an odd question, but what is the Life with Playstation icon supposed to look like? sykoex said:You still have to download and install the photo gallery seperately. :lol :lol :lol
It's over 100MB :lol
x264 is an open source implementation of h.264, a codec supported by the PS3 since day one (in bluray and mp4 videos).LRB1983 said:come on Sony, x264 support. MKV without x264 codec is like nothing.
If they want to improve photo system they should enable us to take screenshots about our progress.
Ranger X said:WTF is wrong with you? You download new software and it shouldn't take place on your hard disk? Common.
Also, I don't want to download this shit so it's GREAT that it's optional, I don't want this bullshit to clutter my HDD, the firmware is way enough.
You already have some pretty decent slideshow options on PS3.Nick Laslett said:This is fantastic news, we have all our digital photos on the PS3 going back to 2000. As a father of two kids, that is a lot of photos, about 8gb.
I have been crying out for a slide show shuffle feature since day one.
Hopefully this will come to the PSP too as I have 1gb of photos there too.
This makes me a very happy PS3 owner.
Blimblim said:Of course, but mkv is the defacto standard for pirated HD movies. Mp4 are now a bit more available because it works with the PS3, but MKV still reigns.
Dizzle24 said:Also: I'd like to use my video game machine to play video games.
I will use Flickr for uploading photos, Power Point for slideshows, or just a photo book to store pics.
Thanks.:lol
Gimme some damn PS2 BC pl0x.
just a guess here, but they want to support people *buying* anime.Unknown Soldier said:It's also the de-facto standard for anime fansubs. Considering Sony's interest in promoting anime on PS3/PSN (see Xam'd: Lost Memories), you would think mkv support would be something they understand PS3 owners would appreciate.
Angst said:I'm pretty sure it was ironical. Seeing as there hasn't been a firmware update for quite some time now.
Ranger X said:I hope I will never catch you using your cellphone for something else than actually having a phone call. And be careful when installing stuff on your PC because there's a awfull lot of things that can be done in seperate machines.![]()

Burekma said:Exactly. If profiles and trophy information still takes light years to load, I'm sooo spamming that blog.

Jim said:Looks like the gallery app can figure out and sort/group by a lot of crazy criteria, like children or adults, landscapes or portraits, colors used, number of people in the pictures, etc. I have to say, that looks damn cool.
And I actually do use the PS3 to look at photos. Digicam pics looks great on the HDTV. I take a bunch of pictures of the kids attach the USB cable, and we watch em right away.
lubczyk said:Divx 3.11? What the hell? I can encode a 2-hour 720p movie into x264 in less than 1 hour and 20 minutes, Why in the world anyone use DivX? Even DivX 7 is painfully slow compared to x264.
Alos, MKV and OGG/OGM support would be nice as well as WMV Lossless.

This is FANTASTIC! Thank you for this terrific news.![]()
Sweet, thanks a ton for that link. I've been looking for something like that.Second said:AVIAddXsubs is all you need.
It's a free program that mixes an avi file + srt in about 3 minutes. Perfectly playable on Ps3. You can even mix up to 8 subs...

Yes, it's something on the todo list. I've been having some issues getting universal builds made for mplayer which the app uses.
It should be available in the next version if everything goes right.
Dizzle24 said:Who uses the PS3 as a picture library? :lol
The only pics I have on my PS3 are wallpapers.
What a waste of firmware!

are your ps3 and 360 hooked up to separate TVs...? why would you need it on both?Dunlop said:I'm having issues now, but it does work great.....except not for my 360's : (
yes I know is is ps3mediaserver, but I want a single solution damnit!
sidenote, there is like little info with this program. Do I need to disable the SSDP service like with TVersity?
Obviously the best would be for the systems to play these formats natively and not need to rely on homebrew apps (for us, not them)
they're just being silly about it.Christopher said:shut the fuck up about the damn clock already, just wait the 4/5 seconds for the thing to dissapear.

Damn, I read it wrong. I missed the word theme and thought that the theme thing was another feature of it.Philanthropist said:Who said that? I only read there's going to be XMB themes included in Blu-ray movies, not that the XMB will work during playback. That said, I believe some Blu-ray movies keep you signed in as they work as if they were PS3 apps.
