wonder if its something for/due to Infamous?

Either there are minor issues with the final code and they're actually releasing this to provide some more stability or they're actually getting ready to bundle this firmware update with something like a new batch of PS3 hardware (a slim redesign or simply another hardware revision).

I remember an odd firmware update, 2.16 I believe, was released when GT5 Prologue came out, and I think the game already had it in the disk. I've got the feeling this is the same case, something to do with their release schedule. I could be totally off as well.

And couldn't you have bumped the 2.70 firmware thread?

I love my PS3 format software stable and 'playbackable':D

The firmware update will probably adds VidZone XMB functionality for European consoles. Would explain why they are releasing a seemingly insignificant update in the US.

It may well have features in it already just locked. They did it before so devs can test future features on live software.

the clock thing HAS to be an internal Sony joke now

It's got to be a huge internet joke too. There's something off when a person complain their game console can't tell the actual the time for any given moment for the sparse seconds you see a battery symbol that it makes it the bane of their existent, that I somehow can not take seriously about and just laugh.

I don't even know what's wrong with the clock in the first place...

When you bring up the XMB in game, the controller battery indicator overlaps with the clock.

Yes, it is stupid :lol

Oh ok.

Never really noticed as I have a clock like on every wall but I can see why that's annoying.

Its not annoying, it lasts 3 seconds, its just that it hasn't been fixed in so long its become an XMB staple.

Come on cross-game voice cha-

Eh, I don't even get excited anymore. How have they not run out of shit to do with photo viewing yet? It's like they do it just to say they made an update.

I hope they get rid of the ' you want to run this plugin?' crap on the browser. PSP's browser, although worse, doesnt give you any of that bs.

I think it has something to do with patching the libTiff "exploit," anyone who updated know if they did patch that?
