update 2.01

It's not that it's slow, it's that it's annoying. I don't play games that often (more often these days due to COD4), and it has seemed like there was an update needed every other time I've turned on the system and tried to play a game or access the store. As said, it's good that they are on top of issues, but the frequency of these full system updates is getting on my nerves.
Hasn't there only been 2 updates in something like 3 months?

You guys should play HSG 5 though. They are basically building the online mode as they go, so at a minimum there is a big update every week that requires a restart after d/l. Hope that model doesn't come to the US.

2.01 has made my copy of Assassin's Creed run worse...I was jumping around the roofs of Jerusalem on my way to the Bureau and the game just slowed WAY down. Like it was running in slow motion. It continued to do this until i had to quit the game altogether and reload.

Can i go back to 2.0 please :\

Since 9/13, there have been three updates including 2.01. So it has been about 3 within 2 months. People would complain if there was no update and it was never fixed, so I just don't understand the complaints.

There have been five updates since September I believe: 1.92, 1.93, 1.94, 2.00, 2.01.

I recall people talking in the AC thread this was a bug in the game already where it looked like the game suddenly runs 15fps and only stopped when you reload it.

Or maybe AC on PS3 is just a buggy mess, period.

I'm sure it was pure horror for some of you every time.

It doesn't need to qualify as "pure horror" for it to be a model I dislike. It can, e.g., prevent me from playing a game on several occasions. Which it has done; most recently last night.

It's a minor inconvienece and takes usually less than ten minutes for me to update. I was being sarcastic with the "pure horror" thing(obviously), but I just don't grasp how system improvements can be seen as a negative.

Some of you don't play very often b/c I only remember 1.92 to 1.94 (only on R&C) to 2.00 and now this. This is only my 4th since Labor Day. Only the 3rd mandatory one.

Before this a lot of people were pining for the 2.00 update. I wouldn't mind another one tomorrow if it gave me divx support.

Ignore the vocal minority and PATCH AWAY, SONY!

Exactly. I'd rather Sony give us some new feature or update every week than them listen to some of these people and go the Microsoft route. Waiting months and months for something I could have now is annoying, and doing a quick firmware update on a regular basis is no big deal at all.

Yeah... I have limited time to play games, so half an hour here or half an hour there actually does affect me. As said, I don't technically fault them for doing this, it's just annoying to me personally. If you can't separate one from the other, you're too close to the brand.

That's the other thing. Actually knowing up front what the update is supposed to fix would probably make it a bit easier to deal with. I'm plenty used to dealing with updates given my background as a PC gamer, but then I was also given detailed descriptions of each patch. And the patches were game specific, so I didn't always have to update everything even if the update is for bug fixes for a game I'd never even play.

So yeah, it's good that they fix whatever needs fixing, but it's annoying nonetheless.

I don't know about that one guy but I adore the updates. If it can fix, smooth, add, etc. to the PS3 hardware and software, then patch away!

Thats a nasty bug that also exists in the 360 version also (I've triggered it a few times). Definitely not FW related.

I haven;t brought this up yet, but I thought some previews claimed tearing was gone. But I am hearing that both versions have tearing as well as other technical flaws. So what was up with the claims that it was fixed?

False promises to reviewers from Ubisoft.

So you want Sony to not fix things soon right?

It wasn't that(although that wouldn't shock me). Someone claimed that they had a hands on with it and that it was tearing free, even while climbing to the highest point in the city and spinning the camera rapidly.

You can't deny the fact that Sony at least listens to their customers, and is always committed to solving problems.

That's what I meant.

Sony listens to their customers. That's why it's a full year after release and we still don't have in-game XMB. It's great having to exit games to read a message whenever someone sends me one. I love not being able to see what my friends are doing and not being able to send and receive invites in-game too. My other favourite thing is not being able to voice chat with anyone unless I'm staring at a black screen with nothing on it. Last but not least I'd really hate it if I was able to listen to my own music while I was playing a game. Thanks for listening to your customers and being committed to solving problems Sony!

Er, what in the hell does that have to do with the company listening (or not listening) to its customers? Some shit just can't be implemented at a certain time, and that's that. But by all means, keep at it.

Xbox Live had all of those features day one. In contrast, it makes Sony look really shitty and slow, no?

You know I was thinking about this, Some people have been having worse problems with Uncharted and AC like freezing and framerate issues then others and I was thinking back to the gamespot review and some of the other ones that said theirs ran better then the 360 version, is it possible that maybe some of the ps3's are capable of running the games better, I mean with all the different sku's and and different motherboards it could be possible.

Want to know what your friends are doing? For crying out loud, phone them up, or pay them a fucking visit sometimes. Jezus Christ, all this whining about ingame XMB+friends list... Do you still sleep normally at all?

Oh and if you don't: Sony is working on it, get the fuck over it:lol

Hmm, I am looking forward to buying a cool 3rd game to accompany my brand new PS3. What is the most reasonable price for a Japanese copy?

Just out of interest, has anybody with the 60gb european model found that FFVIII doesn't work? It doesn't for me. Makes me sad :(

I just think tearing and framerate issues bothers some people more than others.

Sony can update my PS3 5 times a day if they want, as long as it keeps improving I don't care.

Quoted for so much damn truth, the best part about sony is that they keep upgrading and adding more and more functionality to the PS3.

Hahahah I was quite obviously talking about my "friends" on my friends list. Most of those are people I don't know in real life, but enjoy playing games with. Have you ever experienced the 360 dashboard and its integration to XBOX Live? If you haven't, I feel sorry for you... ignorance is bliss though I guess.

Yeah, if only after a year of updates they'd managed to get the PS3's functionality even close to the functionality that the 360 had out of the box at launch TWO YEARS AGO. I'd like more updates with basic and essential features that the PS3 and PSN are sorely lacking, and less with useless shit like "now you can rearrange your games (note: doesn't actually work)" and "now you can change what the pictures on the XMB look like".

It's pretty amazing that of the 17 posts you have made, 9 of them have in some way been negative towards Sony.

Play-Asia has it for $55 and I've seen it on e-bay for $40-55: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bp-49-en-15-hot+shots-70-21dl.html

imo it's one of the PS3's best--absolutely gorgeous graphics. A bit light on content vs. the PSP version (only six courses) but still a great game. I would love to hear how long the first update takes though when you try to go online--I'm guessing you'll literally have to d/l and restart 6-10 times.

Neither PSN nor Xbox Live is particularly good, but the openness of PSN will allow it to improve.

Out of the box, yea. :lol

But they have worked on their OS for 20 years by now.

Sony have mentioned numerous times that they are working on something that will get us the features the majority wants. But things take time you know.

The reasons why are rather unimportant.
These updates really needs to get the music player to run in the background during (nearly) any task, including games, and to give us the ability to read recieved messages while in game. Maybe see the friends list too.

That's what's left on the 'things PS3 firmware needs' checklist and you can't just write it off as Microsoft being better with software than them. There are no excuses for an inferior product.

Fortunately, it's not inferior. Instead we have wider support for devices (see mice, hard drives, headsets, etc.), a pretty decent web browser, extra services like Remote Play and a better online service for free (see UT3).

The things missing (as I described above) will get here eventually, too.

The dashboard is nothing to brag about with it's level based clunkiness. Being able to access a barebones version in game is nice, but the interface itself is very clunky, very slow and cramped by design. Now, are you allowed to store files on that system yet, or is it still just streaming from PC to console? Or you know, fast and seamless tree based file browsing, that'd be nice too. When I owned a 360, I used to ask for these things, yet I didn't actually bitch about the company not listening when the features failed to materialize.

I have a bit of wierdness happening with my remote start. It's not turning on randomly yet, but when I connect to remote start via internet, I get a timeout on my connection. The PS3 starts, but after about a minute sitting there trying to connect with the PSP. I have to then exit out and start remote play again to get on. Anyone with this problem have a fix? UPnP on and all. Router reset a couple of times. Reregsitered PSP multiple times as well. It's runnint 3.71 M33-3 with the prx and rco file copied over to flash0. PEACE.
