Who cares if she isn't super pretty. She's a pretty smart girl, and totally bilingual. She was born in New York City to two really famous Japanese singers. She went to Columbia University during the middle of Sakura Drops.
 
Hopefully that her husband is out of the picture she can go back to making good music like on the first love album.

GAF got into that argument in that recent thread about Ayu and the Wii (complete with art), so read that and you'll have read the next 20 posts or so of this one, too.
 
Ultrablue was actually pretty decent, something surprising considering her streak since she got married. And no way in hell does Ayu > Utada visually, ayus a total plastic freak in comparison. Hikki's got a more natural look to her.

For about 4+ years, which is longer than I expected. I mean she got hitched at the horny/prime age of 20 (to a guy 15 years older than her), with millions of dollars and fans... insta-failure.

You can't blame us. Where else are we supposed to learn about any japanese music? We don't live in Japan.

Sadly, if it wasn't for Kingdom Hearts (never played through the game, but I liked the song when I heard it in the commercial), I would've probably never heard of her. If it wasn't for her song that was used as an ending theme in Inuyasha, I would've probably never heard of Ayumi Hamasaki. If it wasn't for a bunch of other anime OP and ED themes, I would've never learned about the few japanese artists that I know of.

Anyway, the best Japanese ANYTHING, whether it's music, film, architecture, culture (with the exception of FOOD that's for SURE), I've heard the best stuff from non-Japanese people outside of Japan. I was inundated with shit J-pop when I was studying in Tokyo, and then I heard Takemura Nobukazu from a roommate when I was back in the US. Another friend of mine in the US introduced me to Cornelius. Japanese people I talk to are always like 'who is that?'.

There are so many shitty movies made here, yet all the ones I enjoyed I saw in theaters in the US or at Int'l film festivals.

And on and on. Most Japanese people have terrible taste. The best of Japan is outside of Japan.

I'm not defending all of GAF, just the ones that "only heard her music in gaming related venues". Which is where I first heard of her. :P

I don't know much people that even care about Japan in real life, so I follow the advice of certain people here. Like in that thread that JeffDowns made a little while ago. I listened to her album Exodus for the first time on Thursday because it seemed like everyone in there liked it.
 
Honestly..There are chicks at my school that are hotter then her. For goodness sakes my GFs hotter then her...but shes jap and hot. I'd hit it.
 
Don't you dare try to change her. I like Utada the way she is, like the girl next door you'd like to take home to see mother.
