UTIII 360 demoed in two weeks

Yeh because they all own PC's capable of playing it to a decent level...

People assume that PS3 gamers own serious PC gaming rigs because of certain posts by Sony fans in threads for games like Mass Effect, Bioshock, Gears of War, etc.

Except kb/m in UT3 PS3 is pointless anyway, since they slowed down the speed for controllers. And as has been stated already, if you're gonna play the game with kb/m, there's a good chance that you're NOT playing it on PS3.

I AM JOHN! Strikes again.

You can download a mod (you know, the thing that PS3 supports) that speed up the gameplay to PC levels, and even beyond that.

Information. Get some.

I´ll honestly never understand this. Why not buy the PC version then?

Well when it released on the PC the sales weren't that great, I think allot of PC guys were worried about finding communities to play with. The option of getting it on the PS3 with KB/M and it having full mod support swayed allot of PC gamers to pick it up for the PS3. (my theory)

Also they love the idea of killing controller users who go into controller/KB&M servers. But the controller is set up really well in UT3 (you can up your turn speed & stuff) so those matches work out really well for both sides.

So you sit on your couch, leaned forward to your couch table to reach keyboard and mouse - and thus play a MP FPS?! Whats your k/d ratio? :P

Especially considering that most of the PS3 owners in this forum also own perfectly viable PCs.
Yup, people always seem to forget that true Sony fans also maintain modern gaming PCs (with pirated Windows, no doubt!) because that is the best way to enjoy the Xbox 360's "exclusives."

The textures of the game are fantastic on the PS3. It looks almost as good as the PC version.

This IS one of the best looking games on the PS3.

The funny thing is, allot of the mod maps look superior to the ones that shipped with the game. This one is one of my favorites its really intense & looks stunning!

The Necore mod map.

Why would you need to pirate windows? It comes free with every pc.

Excuse my ignorance but whats to stop Epic just putting the mod maps up for free download on market place, other games do it, from what I understand as publisher they can set the price? Or is it simply they want to avoid certification and the costs of certification?

Not with monster gaming PCs that you build with your own hands.

And besides, it's the principle of the thing.

Good job at stinking up the thread, numbnuts.

How do you know?

I get warned at the start of matches that this server is full of KB/M players, and if I don't want to get slaughtered I better find another server! I always stay and hold my own, usually finishing somewhere close to the top.

Also most of the servers are set up KB/M & controller & you can tell the pro's (PC guys) are using KB/M because they turn things into a slaughter fest! Allot of the controller users for some reason don't max out there settings so they turn slower, the PC guys are fast as hell.

Because Microsoft doesn't want people to do that because they get a cut of every download.

Basically, corporate greed fuck-wittery. Which is why I pose the question again: does anyone care?

I think its going to happen this way for sure, unless MS opens up. The only problem with it though is you don't have control of when you get the mods or what mods you get.

I would be honestly shocked if there were mods in UT3 X360. MS appears to be completely against user content on their system. I mean beyond the obvious financial incentives. Like there is someone up top in the MS game division who has a poor opinion of any sort of uncontrolled content making its way onto XBL.

but isnt halo 3 forge mod, kind of the 1st step in the right direction, as users share edit levels ect ?

You're not changing the level though, just contents within the level. Also it is all done through the game. In UT3 the mods are built on a PC then "cooked" for the PS3, the moders can create anything they imagine.

my understanding of Forge is that it's pretty limited in scope, and basically amounts to dropping various objects into existing maps, or cooking up "mutators" based upon game setting adjustments built into the game already.

It's a first step, I guess, but still a LONG way from letting people import maps.

I don't even understand what MS is so worried about. If the Sony camp reaction to mods is what we can expect from console guys, all anyone's gonna do on UT3 X360 is import Nathan Drake and Nariko character models.

There is an interesting article HERE where user generated content on the 360 comes up a lot. It seems MS's lawyers are worried about penises. Still it does say MS's legal team are working on new terms and conditions for user generated content so maybe there is some hope.

There's nothing in the TOS that says "we're not responsible for whatever content is created by our users so don't come crying to us when you get a face full of wang-shaped N+ level"?

I don't buy it, and I'll bet one of my crazy conspiracy theories on it.

I understand the stance MS has on it, but the guys making these mods see them as art. They spend countless hours making maps & characters, they don't want to make penis heads and stuff, because no one would take their mods seriously.

It costs MS money in bandwidth and storage to host them. They also don't want to screw up their XBL Marketplace economy by starting to give a bunch of stuff away for free.

Like Criterion? There are plenty of developers who give away free content.

Earlier in this thread I pointed out some items that may be included in the 360 version to compensate for it being late and lacking mods. Now I seriously am interested in what Epic/MS will add to the mix to make it compete with the PS3 verison. Anyone willing to guess at potential additions?

And to think that Epic put some free maps up on PSN.

It's already been mentioned that MS is working on their own system to deliver user-generated content that will be XBL-Wide. They probably just want to wait for that to be ready to use User created content instead.

Every new map pack on Live has come out at $10.

Even an MS published game released free maps (Gears Of War). Midway is publishing this and can do what they want. ("Still Alive" was released as new free content and that was, what, last week?)

So? It's not like Nintendo or Sony doesn't have to pay bandwidth for their online game servers, Wiishop, PStore. Microsoft is the most willing out of the big three to nickel and dime for everything online such being able to play online, 95% of all add-ons, wallpapers, a little .gif image that counts as a gamer picture.

And the Halo/Gears map packs eventually became free..... also the Crackdown Keys to the city was free along with a couple other DLC items that I don't remember.

Quoted/bolded for emphasis. Let's stick to talking about map packs, though. Nothing's gonna stop Epic from putting out mutators and small stuff like that for free.

Umm the point was to show that MS DOES put up free stuff on XBL, if Epic wanted to they could release a free map-pack.

Why? Why is Criterion's massive drop of a brand new island irrelevant to the conversation because it's not a Map Pack? Do you really think MS has some kind of Marketplace Map Pack Specific Clause in their contracts?

That wasn't my point though. My point is that every map pack has been $10 (or more - Stranglehold LOLZ). Clause or no, that's the standard MS has established on the Marketplace for shooters.

They can't establish ANY standard except for games they publish. It's up to the publisher to decide how much they want to sell it for. Obviously, most want to make money off them, but MS can't stop them from giving them away for free.

The difference is that for Gear's first map pack, they had a sponsorship deal with Discovery Channel. As for the Halo and second Gears maps, it made sense because Bungie and Epic wanted them to be free and not split the community, but by making them paid content for the first six or so months, they could get the hardcore crowd (of which there is a fuckton of people) to pay. Had Epic or Bungie not complained, I'm sure you'd see something like Stranglehold, Perfect Dark Zero, or Call of Duty's pricing, where the maps will never become free.

In short, Microsoft doesn't like to make things free unless they have to or have other avenues from which to get money from a game.

This isn't true, though. The recently released Turok map pack (5 maps) sells for 400 MS Points aka $5.

And an older example would be Microsoft themselves releasing the Perfect Dark map pack (4 maps) for 500 MS Points or ~$6.25. I think most publishers just charge $10 because they can get away with it.

CoD2 had the free Bonus Map Pack.

CoD3 had one free map

Command and Conquer 3 had a free map

Many games have had map packs for 400 points.

If you like a game and the publisher isn't giving you anything for free or cheap, I'd look to the publisher first.

with things like the whole xna community download thing they're unveiling, i think we're probably gonna see something different coming from MS soon.

i'd imagine that since this game is still scheduled for release, they'll have mod support at least from external sources like usb drives. hasn't Epic and Rein stated how important they think the support is for the game and that they were working with MS on it?
