Agreed. Also when people bitch about FFVII AC and say look at cloud he flies around that fucker Nomura he ruined everything!!!! Well to that I say Cloud and Sephiroth both flew in the original FFVII, The technical limitations of the almighty ps1 couldn't convey that well but it's there. Also Nomura's designs are fucking win. Fuck the haters.karasu said:I really don't see anything 'impractical' about Lightning's appeareance. It looks like she's wearing a souped up fashion conscious Safari vest. There's nothing that would stop her from doing what she does. She looks quite stylish, really. I don't see why people start bitching about practicality when Final Fantasy comes up but not when discussing virtually every other game out there. Jumping around rooftops and into haystacks with no peripheral vision, sunglasses at night, gun fights in Motocross gear, etc.
I agree with that as well, I hope they keep him as the main character. I thought I read he was just a placeholder.Lightning said:Square need to release this game as soon as it's completed. This game is a console seller, many just ain't going to buy PS3's until it's released and waiting until the PS3 is 6mil in Japan is outrageous. They will be annoucing it's cancellation before the PS3 reaches 6mil in Japan without FFXIII...
S-E use some common sense. Release the damn game, this game is essential to the PS3 and most importantly I want to fucking play it, preferably before 2010...
And Lightning's design is fine, pointless nitpicking FTL!!!!
I like the Versus XIII main character design the most though. He just reeks of baddass.

Regarding Lightning's visual appearance: I love it. Perhaps the outfit isn't very much practical, but really, what is in the world of fashion? I also like that, for being a Nomura design, she doesn't resemble any female figure he has designed until now...she has this very distinct look thanks in part to her hair and pointy facial features.

zoukka said:I didn`t mind the flying. That`s just stupid knowing what kind of spells/summons/specials they did in VII.
But AC still is the plunge in to the ruinage, with crappy character-design and super-wimpy Cloud. I never thought him as wussy or generic looking in VII. I mean they could portray more emotions with ten polygons than AC did with millions...
And sorry to keep bitching, but these images just darken my image about XIII. Horrible characters. (They better write them good).

He's talking about the scale of the world map. It's zoomed out the same distance as in the older FF games, but since the scale of the characters and locations is more realistic (as opposed to giant-sized characters and locations), it's harder to make them out from the airship.Yoboman said:Ah, was that Versus? Well I'm hoping for a big realistically scaled overworld for both then
What exactly does he mean "it's the same scale as past FF games, but even then, it's so wide that you can't make out the first town"?

please Square keep the Gambit stuff for the next FF13!!!!!!!
From what I remember it's going to be super awesomely turn based revolutionary jRPG number 2 to use the technical term.bdizzle said:FF13 is going to be turn based right? I keep reading that but I can't imagine going back to turn based after FF12.

It's going to let you "program" the next move, so you have let's say, 50 move points, and you can divide them between stuff to create a command, like for example dash forward 10mp, slash 10mp, jump 5mp, shoot 15mp, slash down 10mp. And then the character blends all of those into super awesome fluid mve like what we've seen in the trailer.
Got me excited as hell actually, and I even will to sacrifice the awesomeness of FFXII to try that system out.
Edit: I realized that it might have some similiarity to the SaGa Frontier 2 system, only with great animation blending system.

that sounds more like directing a scene than playing a game tbh.
Yeah I believe so. You're being rewarded with an awesome "cut-scene" everytime you put something visceral together.bdizzle said:that sounds cool. is that why in the trailer lighting did all thoe aerobatic moves? my only issue with turn based is slowing the pace of the comat down. the whole going tit for tat concept is what i want to avoid. hopefully it works out well

I can see this getting old after you've seen the moves countless times, unless they happen real fast or something. See: summon sequences in some FFs.Ynos Yrros said:From what I remember it's going to be super awesomely turn based revolutionary jRPG number 2 to use the technical term.

Yeah, I figured it might. But then again, isn't it ALWAYS the same slash animation or magic animation in every other jRPG? At least here you will have some influence.Alaluef said:I can see this getting old after you've seen the moves countless times, unless they happen real fast or something. The battle system for Final Fantasy XIII incorperates the Active Time Battle (ATB) system seen in previous games in the series. Individual turns during battle, based on screenshots from the game, are taken by creating strings of multiple commands. Commands are selected based on their individual ATB Cost, which progressively depletes the ATB Gauge and effectively limits the number of commands that can be used in combination. These commands are then strung together into an onscreen attack pattern. The battle system for Final Fantasy XIII is said to have significantly less wait-time between turns than previous games.
Although only one character has been seen so far, FFXIII will have multiple-character parties, and battles will rely upon inter-linking and chaining of attacks between party members.
Additionally, FFXIII will use a navigation map during battle that will allow battles that require 360 degrees of movement. Enemies will be able to attack from all sides, including from above. The map is speculated to be used as a tool for for selecting targets and gauging distance during battle.
A new addition to the battle system is the Overclock Gauge, which will provide an ability similar to the Matrix's 'Bullet Time'. The main character can cause everything around her to slow while she herself continues moving at normal speed, by snapping together metallic balls that are embedded in her fingertips. This should allow for some impressive combos when attacking. When invoked, the overclock gauge gradually depletes, suggesting that Overclock may be FFXIII's version of the Limit Break.
