Valheim may be set to blow up?

Croatoan

They/Them A-10 Warthog
If video games were stocks I'd be buying VHM right now. This game looks like it is set to make a run.

Viking survival game with a procedural world, interesting old school art style and souls style feel to combat. Oh and yes there is sailing! Only early access now but their roadmap looks to really expand on things. Servers are PVE with 10 player cap right now (PVP is a toggle but not the main thing so no this isn't like rust or ark).

Don't think you are crazy, yes it does have ps1/n64 art. The lighting is insanely good though. Very pretty game.

Open world multiplayer survivor type games is rock n roll in 1961. It's hip hop in 1990.

I'm not sure if this will take off but this is THE genre over the next 10-20 years.

OP is absolutely correct.

How much did they pay you to post this?
Nothing? I just pay attention to twitch and this genre...

Its getting near universal praise, has a ton of content and polish for a EA game, and once someone like CohhCarnage, or Lirik plays it I think it will go big. Ignore me if you want, IDGAF.

By blow up I mean successful at making money for the developers and have some staying power. I am not talking fortnite or anything here. :P

I've got it on my wishlist. Definitely interested in checking it out sometime soon.

Coming soon to N64.

Suprising, the game play and the game is so-so, but alot of streamers are playing it.

I'd rate it below both Ark and Conan, and Dark and Light, its rough, fucking rough, around the edges.

Maybe they spent alot of money on promotion?

When someone tells me something is a thing, it's usually not a thing.

[edit] They're definitely pushing the game fairly hard, already seen a couple of videos on this so far

Well CohhCarnage is playing it tomorrow, which will drum up some added interest.
As a PC gamer, i'm sick to death of these kind of games, and how well most of them seem to do. I find them tedious and boring as hell.

54k currently ingame on Steam, sigh.

The concept sounds good, but the art and graphics are... rough, to put it nicely. It looks like a 3DS game.
its supposed to look like that.

Huh? Not my experience. Also, most of the reviews seem to like it because it is so polished and feels like a launch game and not EA. The only thing that seems rough are the animations and some general survival jank. I've played a ton of Conan and Valheim is already better than that laggy yet entertaining mess (ran my own PVE server). PVP games like ARK, Rust, ect are not my thing.

Allready had two resets on my dedicated server.

Something that never happened on any of the afforementioned games, so I guess YMMW.

This seems like a sales push with streamers, the game isn't worth it imho, it's shallow, poorly designed, a falling tree from chopping wood will kill you 90% of the time. This, if any game after Dark & Light, seems like the companies first money grab. It's pretty garbo with the building, the questing, and the "randomly generated map", and the "bosses". Combat is so shallow that you can't move and hit, which makes it impossible to kill enemies running away.

It's a complete copy n' paste game.

With building, it's even worse than Ark, that is a milestone.

I'd give it another year before I revisit.

Do not buy this game in this state, wait a year. They have tossed tons of moneys on promos, streamers, and writers, but the game itself is, really, reaaaaaaally shallow. And the building is complete garbage.

Seriously, buy ECO instead.

Don't waste your time, mate.
It isn't really doing too hot. 58k viewers, with 23k from one single streamer.

Game looks okay I guess but I kinda feel OP is kicking this game in the balls with the "this might be the next most amazing thing" premise.

I had a lot of fun with it. Was minecraft vikings edition to me.

Gonna play a lot more

Honestly now, I've seen much worse games; but this one seems too clunky and bland to me. It's just my own opinion as the OP has theirs.

I've watched some of the streamers I follow play this, and... it's fun for a couple of days, but they kind of moved back on to the games they were playing. Not sure about its longevity, even for a survival game.

You got your wish. Cohh is playing it now.

Looks ok I guess. Early Access is an automatic pass for me, though.

Look yet another survival game....

But this time, instead of micro managing eating and drinking, I get to also experience unforgiving relenting combat.

I'll pass.

Great game. Boomers here won't like it though.

100k concurrent and overwhelmingly positive on steam. It was made by 4 people and it's a lot deeper than it looks. Great achievement and surprisingly challenging too.

I actually like the art-style and think it looks pretty cool overall. But I'm just so over survival games in general. It's priced fairly and I've watched a few videos of people that seem to enjoy it, but I just don't see what it's doing that is any more unique than the 100's of other games in the genre aside from the setting. Not close-minded to it, and if it grows into something unique, maybe I'll pick it up in the future, but as it stands, I'll just wait and see.

Not my type of game but it definitely seems like the sort of game that might blow up on PC/Twitch.

I'd say the shitty visuals are a plus for this sort of game as you want kids being able to play it on non gaming laptops.

shitty survival early access game nr 31. which will be played by paid twitch shills and 80% of their viewers will also buy it because of that and shill it as goty 2021. nope thanks.

Played for 4 hours last night and wondering where on earth you came up with a "souls-style feel" to the combat. Is it simply because there's a stamina bar? The game is fine but it feels like any other survivalcraft game that I've played for the most part

True, but those aren't linear third person action games.

As stale as the franchises (genres) you listed above, they didn't reproduce like Tribbles since 1996.

tumblr_mti69pwiUl1sg3vmpo6_r1_250.gif
Beside forza horizon those are some pretty linear games each with 5 plus entries and still counting. Personally I don't think the camera has much to do with staleness.

Yes they do.

What's the point of building out beefy rigs just to play boring survival games I will never know
What do you expect? For people to play the same single player games over and over? I don't really like these types of games either, but there aren't many(any?) multiplayer games that will push a beefy PC.
