What a great little game. The gameplay works so well and the graphics are lovely. [...] Now I never buy games on release date with full price (unless it's a FF game), but not this time!

I had high hopes for this game ever since the first pictures. This demo exceeded them. Gonna be a long month waiting for the release.

The demo sold me on the game. I was on the fence before since i'm not really a fan of SRPG's. But the way they've pulled this off is very appealing.
AgentOtaku said:
It can't be reiterated enough that this game is gorgerous and seeing it off screen or in screenshots doesn't do it proper justice!

Seems like a very solid game. Accessible with potential for depth, my kind of game.

Thoroughly impressed. I had absolutely no interest in this title until I heard positive things about the demo. [...] Trailers really don't do the gameplay justice I must say.

Surprisingly good. I came for the art style, but stayed for the unorthodox real-time turn based strategy gameplay.

The demo is exactly as I expected and I loved every second of it.

Gameplay, soundtrack (wow), graphics, presentation, execution, everything in the demo is solid. The experience can surely only go up from here. Day one.

As expected, I loved the demo as well. I loved how clean and self explanatory the menus and everything are. Awesome!

Hmmm... just played the demo... and loved it. I haven't really played any SRPG's, but this is awesome.
Fafalada said:
This is what a modern version of XCom/LaserSquad should have been, great execution across the board from presentation to intuitive, slick and responsive interface/controls, with a very solid tactical battle engine. And it looks great to boot (It really looks better in person then any of the videos I've seen in the past).

Finally got to play it, and holy shit, this game is ridiculous. I NEED this so badly. Fucking amazing game, can't wait till the 11th.
lowrider007 said:
Very surprised indeed, I'm not usually a fan of these types of games but I'm loving this, very easy to get to grips with, lovely art style, and the intro music was almost tearful (in a good way)

Wow this game is AWESOME!! Day1 for me

It's great to see such a joyful thread.

Im surprised...

the game didnt really blow me away graphically, I was impressed with the style, but a little disappointed with the detail and clarity, still it looks nice enough...then I played the game, it is pretty damn addictive... What sort of upgrades can you get etc? If it has upgrades etc as in FF tactics, I might be interested in getting this

I find it good that this thread is still consistently being hit. Maybe the outlook for the full game is a bit rosier than at first thought?

Okay, I just played the desert campaign where you have to take on
a huge tank with machine guns and insta-kill cannons
, a bunch of soldiers and then on top of that
a crazy bitch with an insta-kill lance
. I used a strategy guide to help me get started and make room to actually survive the second round. Most of the fight I had to use the tank as cover to be able to move my lancers into a position to actually hurt the enemy. Very intense!

Oh, and when are they releasing a Marina figure? <3

Why did I play this demo!! My wallet hates you. I'd wait past November to pick it up but I have this horrible feeling that the game will be rare so I want to pick it up right away.

The demo was fun. The core gameplay was interesting, but didn't completely blow me away with its mechanics - probably because that skirmish was a tad too simplistic. I'm buying the game day1, but hoping that the gameplay will really shine in some more complex/challenging scenarios.

Hcoregamer00 said:
Yeah, but the WW2 theme only works when they added fantasy stuff like massive tanks and a race of powerful creatures.

In other words, they needed to take the reality out of war to make it somewhat enjoyable.
Heh, I'd disagree. Since most mainstream WW2 games are pretty 'dumbed-down' or made Hollywood-style, they don't really portray the setting very well, aside from superficial crap like uniforms or weapons or 'scenarios' that really hold little historical accuracy.

WW2 wargames can be among the most compelling strategic/tactical games from a gameplay perspective, it's just that no one (around here, at least) even bothers looking at them.

Yeah, though I barely touched RoR outside of a rental.

I played through the Valkyria demo only once and whilst I'd love to boot it back up again, I think I can let it wait for another 3 weeks.

Day 1 for me! Awesome Gameplay + Dual VA + Marina Inoue = Instant Buy!!

You mother fuckers of America & Europe better buy this game to encourage Sega to make a Sequel!!!!

Finally got around to playing the demo last night. It was great.

I wish the aiming was left up to change slightly less, but at the same time it's such a great improvement over the typical hit mechanics. It would be even cooler if the enemies were moving around in a small area to add to the challenge of aiming. I'm interested to see if in the final game you have the ability to target legs to hamper enemy movement, or arms to hamper their aim, etc. This game has a ton of promise, and looks gorgeous.

Day 1 for sure.

Wha...

Wikipedia is stating that the NA release is now Nov 11th, whilst PAL is 31st Oct (which I knew already). I thought the NA release was due in less than a week or something?

It's mine day one - one of the two remaining games this year that I can say that of.

The NA release has been like that for a while, but Amazon is now saying that it's shipping Nov 4th now, so here's hoping!

I'm very impressed with the demo. I wish the demo's difficulty wasn't so ridiculously easy, but I'm sure the final game will pose a far greater challenge. It was surprisingly easy to pick up and play. I'm leaning toward buying this game now. Kudos to SEGA for making another awesome game. Keep up the good work by bringing over Yakuza games and publishing Platinum Games' gems.

yeah i believe the NA release got pushed forward a week too (to the 4th)

That's some great news. You don't have to wait much now ^_^ 31 October here...The waiting is killing me...and my wallet :D

Haven't played the demo, but this was the first game that came to mind when watching media about VC. If the atmosphere is anything like RoR, then this is a must-buy for me!

Shit I need to get my PS3 online...

I don't really agree with the people who said the VA was bad. They seemed fine to me...

The people who think the VA is bad are the people who download fansubs because they don't want to hear anime in english.

You don't need to listen to them.

Because it'll most likely have bad VA.

And yes, it was pretty poor in Valkyrie too :p Game will have Japanese voices so who cares?

This game is incredible. Absolutely incredible. I figure I would kind of like it after seeing trailers and reading impressions but holy crap, what an excellent demo.

I thought the VA was decent... but I also prefer watching subbed anime. ONOES what now.

It has nothing to do with your language preference. Liking one thing does not preclude one from liking another.

I dunno. I didn't dislike the VA in the demo, but it wasn't too hot either. More like forgettable would be my opinion, but it was just too little (and without real context) to judge it properly.
Dismissing VA criticism because of generalizations tho is pretty shortsighted imho.

Played the demo and it left me in awe. I didn't think it would be THAT good. It's like an Advanced Wars and third person shooter in one package. fuck yes.

Awesome. AWESOME. Valkyria is like a fusion of Nectaris and Advance Wars.

Not sure if anybody cares but i tested the game with an Xbox 1 pad and aligning the crosshair is a far more smoother process on its analog stick than using a Sixaxis (or Dualshock 3), which is a bit too sensitive.

I hate this shit. I just don't get why a very vocal minority of people gets their panties in a bunch because some prefer to listen to the superior (in at least 90% of the cases when it comes to games (and anime as well, though that's OT)) original version of various media. Ridiculing those that do so does not magically improve dubs, and it's also not a valid argument in a discussion about them, so what's the motivation for it?

Anyway, back on topic, I'm surprised to see a few complaints about the aiming. I didn't have any problems with it, perhaps it's because I don't play dual stick console shooters?

I found aiming to be perfect frankly, simply because you can use the dpad to move the cross as little as you want.

The one in the demo is the first and easiest Skirmish. Don't worry about that. but, anyway, the real challenge of the game is not to finisht it (pretty easy), it is to obtain S grade xD

I'm sorry but nope, it doesn't matter if you aim for the legs or arms. Just Head and body as impact zones are relevants.

IIRC the enemies have the ability to dodge by crouching that's where aiming for the legs comes in handy.

The VA was generic dub fare. Its nothing to do with Japanese/English/Anime fans being elitist pricks.

If you watch a US TV series which has been dubbed to spanish or chinese its going to be just as irritating and poorly acted because they dont use proper talent. Japanese voice acting happens to be full of awesome talent because anime is a big industry there. Over here, the awesome voice acting talent is centred around shows like the Simpsons/Futurama and very little spills over into games and practically none into anime because the budget isnt there.

Even if you do procure good talent, its nothing without good scripts and direction. You can have a movie full of shit actors and De Niro but De Niro probably won't save the film by himself.

Ultimately its usually best to hear a production in its original language because more often than not the dub wasn't done properly in the sense it has to broken down and rebuilt from the start. Most people skip that and just do a straight swap in and out and audiences can tell.

awesome demo by the way. Day One.

gameplay seems pretty fun, but the graphics are not so hot. the whole art style is really tarnished because of the aliasing and how blurry things are in the distance.

My my my.

It seems like Drama GAF can't let a good thread like this slide by. Here we are, making a mountain out of a molehill. We don't even have a complete English dub yet, and now we are engaging in a dub vs. sub thread.

This forum never fails to amaze me.

Use the analog stick for big movements and the D-Pad for minor aiming adjustments.

I am getting way ahead of myself, but this makes me think CANVAS and Sega's talent can be applied to Warhammer Fantasy. Now there's something that NEVER had a proper SRPG for it.

iapetus said:

The spirit is the same, but RoR was cheap even for its time. It was immensely enjoyable though as I dig the steampunkish take on WW2 and it was amusing seeing how many shells tanks can absorb before going down (just like in Valkyria).

Really? Different strokes for different folks, the graphics look great to me.

who brought it up??

I'm not arguing, you were attacking people and I was explaining their point of view. Thats all.

and not all dubs suck, thats insane considering this is a game so the Japanese would also be a dub on top of some animation?? Same applies to anime.

I know their point of view quite well, I have been an anime fan for 15 years.

Judging from the voracious responses, my intuition was right.

I dunno, you keep going on with the generalization.
That surely doesn't do a whole lot of good to the thread.

It was too sensitive.

Using the analog for precise aiming is a pain, especially because you have to resort to using the D-pad for more precise aiming.

Lain said:

Okay, how about from this point onward we drop the dub vs. sub talk.

Bring it to any anime discussions in OT, I will ignore all talk from this point onwards that is a response to any dub related posting I have.

OK, im not a RPG guy, but the demo sold me the game
My favourite RPG is FFXII
