Valkyria Chronicles demo up!

Valkyr Junkie said:
Decisions, decisions. Either get the game from EB/GS and get the artbook, or order from Amazon and get the game for $3 less, no tax/shipping costs, and then get $10 off a future game. Are there any details of how high quality the artbook is?
This was the huge thread earlier this year on the import version with a small impression on what the CE goodies were like:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=284751

And in that thread, there was a link to a site with pics of the CE version of the game that came with a tank model, an Alicia figure, and the world book that looks to be the one we'll be getting, only translated.

I pre-ordered for the book because I'm a sucker for game fiction and doesn't cost any extra.

That is assuming your store gets it, remember that they are printing a limited amount.

Your mileage will vary with this preorder bonus, especially if your store employees like grabbing first dibs.

Very true. Fuck those employees that do such things >:|

It's not like I don't have any faith in them, I just got burned way too many times when getting preorder bonuses (or a lack of them).

You bet your ass I will be bitching to high heaven if I don't get my artbook.

The game will definitely be a day 1 to me... well not exactly since I'm importing it. :lol

btw. since the release is getting closer and closer... What's the title of the official thread? Has it been decided, yet?

I thought it was "Valkyria Chronicles: If you don't buy it, you are part of the problem"

Yeah, I don't blame you. I started going to a newer store that doesn't get much traffic.

The one store I go to has been pretty good when it comes to pre-orders so I haven't had a problem with them yet, but I'll keep my fingers crossed just the same.

Can't wait to get this into my hands.

Hey Guys and Girls, a minor update.

I was talking to the gamestop employee when I was picking up Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and I was greeted with a good response regarding the preorder bonus. The store manager told me that the artbook will be available at pick up, but he also told me that it should be arriving a week beforehand, so if you store manager/worker is kind enough they can give you the book the week before the game is released.

Like always, each store is different, so you experience will differ.

Call gamestop just to save on gas (and frustrations)

Awesome. So it is coming out the 4th?

Yes, he confirmed it to me that it was coming out in November 4th.

Of course, by that he means shipping day, which means each store will get it the Wednesday or Thursday after the date.

Aight. That week I have a test on the third, and two tests on the fifth, so Valkyria will be waiting at the end of the tunnel!

With my insane school schedule (6 hours of work and 6 hours of classes) in Tuesday, you bet your ass I am happy that I could pick up the game in Wednesday (2 hours of classes).

I am also eagerly awaiting the date when we can preorder the Valkyria Figures from play-asia, my Isara and Elanor figures are lonely.

Nah. Too patronizing. Also a bit creatively bankrupt since it was used many times before. Above all, it may attract trolling and / or posts discussing the title instead of the game.

I've deliberated about this for a while now and I think I'll just stick with
"Valkyria Chronicles - Official Thread".
Yeah, not as creative as one would like, but I can't think of many additions that would be sufficiently meaningful/witty to warrant inclusion without attracting some of the problems listed above.

One other option I'm still thinking about is
"Valkyria Chronicles - Official Thread of genre-redefining gameplay".
What surprised me most in this thread is how many people claimed that they never played/liked SRPGs but where excited by the demo of VC. This title is an attempt to communicate that and get non SRPG regulars to click on it.

It could be that I'm thinking about this a bit too hard - SEGA doesn't even pay me! :lol

I like it, this is better than just "official thread."

Alicia agrees

you us guys are lucky that you get a bonus ;_;

New entry on the PS Blog about it: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/23/valkyria-chronicles-update-demo-qa-more/

5. Are there any plans for downloadable content, expansion packs?? Any other unusual additions?

In Japan, on 8/8, our first batch of download content was released. This includes a new side-episode that centers on some of the side-characters, as well as a new extra-hard difficult. At the end of October, we hope to have our second content set released. (This will center on the Imperial Army’s Selveria squad fighting against the Gallian army in another additional episode). Plans for download content for the overseas releases are still to be determined.

Do eeeeeeet!

And for those too lazy or unable to make a UK account, the demo hits the NA store today without Qore!

Make no mistake, Valkyria Chronicles is a really, really, really good tactical RPG, and fans of the genre should pick it up without delay, but beneath the inviting exterior and thoughtfully designed battle system lies a game with a few too many clunky inconsistencies which directly impact the strategic heart of the experience.

Eurogamer review 8/10

Why I have the feeling they haven't reviewed it as a strategical role playing game, but more like an action third person shooter? Maybe those are the risks of developing an hybrid.

Mass Effect redux?

I actually JUUUUST purchased the Japanese version.

Other than localization, anything new in the US version?

It's a very pretty game.

woot! I fall under the too lazy to make a UK account group, but I shall be downloading the demo as soon as I get home!

my ps3's ability to connect to my wireless is a whole different issue though. it wasn't update 2.5, it was just afterwards when I finally put my first ps3 game in. it couldnt connect to update heavenly sword and I had to hardwire into the network to get it to download. since then things haven't been the same...

so I'll have to hardwire into my network to download it, or spend some time troubleshooting the wireless connection. sigh

Strangely, no local game stores list the game as a release on 31 (or even being in the "upcoming games" lists at all), so i guess i will have to purchase it online and wait a few days until it arrives.

Will this game get Trophies? And if so, when?

I asked this somewhere else or earlier in this thread and the answer was that the developers have promised to add trophy support later on.

Apparently this was taken from the developer blog.

Make no mistake about it: If Italian retailers have it already listed for 31st October then no matter where you are, you will be able to purchase a copy into a store the same day, if not sooner.

Obviously it's more convenient to get it online, since it will cost 64.90€ >_>

I have my doubts :-/ oh well. I will check in the 31 if they have it, if not, i will pick it up from play.com, 55€ pvp with free shipping is very tempting.

The same is happening here in spain, game is not even listed in Game.es or Gamestop.es. I've just preordered from play.com.

My local game shop does list it for the 31st, but it's 9 € more expensive than ordering at play. Hmm, pay a bit more or get the game a few days later...

I will probably get my copy on 4 November instead of day one. My favourite store will give 15% discount on that day. I don't want to wait that much actually, but if I do I'll be able to get ratched and clank quest for booty as well. Choices choices!

Do you have a link for the developer blog?

With the influx of amazing games from now until the end of the year a future trophy patch would most likely put this game at the end of my TO PLAY queue. Still getting it day 1 from Amazon for the amazing price of $47 ($57 with $10 gift card) :D

I knew one of the Final Fantasy Tactics guys did the music for VC! :D

Too bad about the cover system. Hope it isn't too much of a problem.

Hitoshi Sakimoto is a legend. His music also sounds very unique. If you cannot recognize his work simply by ear, you lose.

I'm just kidding. I can't wait for this to come out. :D

Dang.
Just got done playing the demo was a absolute blast to play.
Reminds me a little bit of Ring of Red which is a good thing.
I love the mechanics definitely did a good job combining the
action RTS genres.

Ah crap too many games.

Strangest thing, I couldn't get into RoR. I can't quite remember what put me off about it, but I ended up giving it away to a friend.

Before that, I finished Vandal Hearts, Final Fantasy Tactics and Front Mission 3. And I think that the VC demo is great.

this explains EVERYTHING! rofl, wtf D: :D :D :D

FFT music ftw

seriously, I was like, "wait, why does that sound like FFT music?" which I told my friend, and he lol'd. Now I know the truth D:

edit: read the review, lol, I totally agree with everything the guy says, and that's based on just playing the demo multiple times alone. Can't wait to pick this up.

I really wish X was a crouch/prone button :(

I got a RoR vibe too. I played through the demo as well, and this is a very cool SRPG.

I haven't gotten into a lot of SRPGs, but this one has things i think i can get into
