Valkyrie Profile 3: Hrist needs to happen

SolVanderlyn

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I've recently been replaying VP2, and I strongly believe that it's time for Hrist to finally have her time in the sun. I feel like the VP series has a lot more to tell and is far from being "complete" as it is right now. The series skipped last gen and opted for a side story on DS instead, so we are long overdue for another game. Imagine a full fledged Valkyrie Profile game on current gen hardware! I was also reading the wiki page for Hrist's Covenant of the Plume profile, which has this interesting little tidbit:

When facing Hrist in the Seraphic Gate, she breaks the fourth wall by expressing her dissatisfaction at not being the protagonist of the game; "First Lenneth, then Silmeria..." referring to the first two Valkyrie Profile games...to which she then promptly takes out her frustration against Wylfred: "It's 'Valkyrie Profile', not 'Mortal Profile!' They went out of their way to slight me!"
Ha. I agree, Hrist!

Let's tell Tri-Ace

More like Square Enix, I think tri-Ace don't really have much say and they would make any game as long as there is publisher interested in working with them, kinda similar to Platinum Games and Bayonetta 2.

Guys, do i have to remind you what happend to Breath of Fire?

The monkey paw is in full effect, you dont want this.

Yep the game that was supposed to be VP got turned into LR instead.

I still keep saying that to this day. The fact that Kagari agrees has to at least say Im not totally batshit crazy.
Is this an elaborate joke? I may just cry tears of blood if this is true.
I'll end up playing it one day, anyway.
That's the last thing I would have ever expected, though.

The way the battle system works was pretty much a dead giveaway... That and how shoe horned in everything else thats FF related felt.

Am sure if it in fact did really take place the reason behind it is they assumed that it would sell more than if VP did due to how many "fans" lightning has and the FF name itself.

They could have made Lightning an einherjar or something instead.
Although they wouldn't want her in Valhalla, so she'd get sent to Niflheim instead.
I don't even know if they could still do VP justice in this day and age anyway, so maybe it was for the best.

I can't believe Drakengard 3 happened before VP3. What a strange world we live in.

We'll end up getting Shenmue 3 before another VP. ;_;

Are you serious? Has it been considered a let-down? No spoilers, please.

I was a bit worried that would happen, honestly.

I blame Nier.

Not nearly as much as this poster persistently postures. It's not any worse than Drakengard 1 or 2 lol .

Not an adhominem just indicating hyperbole

Can someone explain this? I won't be playing LRFF13, but how is it similar to VP? No party members right? So whats the deal? Is it like 1 or 2? Is it like Dirge of Cerberus where its a repurposed engine for a scrapped game?

The battle system is very reminiscent of VP (i.e. mix of realtime action with turn base, kind of a loose comparison really) also Lightning is alot like a Valkyrie in regards to the story.

I'd just like to apologize again for the fact that we renamed Arleigh. The names "Lenneth" "Silmeria" and "Arleigh" worked so well together. Giving one of the sisters a Nordic name (Hrist) was a mistake.

In any case, I'd kill for VP3 as well.

If you saw the railing I gave the game in the preorder? thread then yes. Also yes its been considered a letdown by the JP fans. Games design and story are pretty bad.

Nier was actually a good game story wise that tried so many different things which became the point of irritation for some.

DD3 isnt anything like the first 2 in design and seriously is lacking overall. Only few good things was the character design, voice acting and music. Story and gameplay is shit.

The previous 2 games still had a better story. Not to mention the unique system of being able to ride your dragon whenever you wanted outside is gone in 3. That and as stated multiple times go read the impressions by JP fans, they think its shit too with poor writing and the gameplay is just bad.

Considering how many people in Japan use amazon these days pricing of games is a pretty good way to judge its worth when combined with ratings once it passes 100. Game is now around 3500-4000 JPY with 2 and a half star ratings. When a game thats fairly new drops to a price like that its a sign that retailers are trying to get rid of it as it just is not popular. Game had dropped in price pretty fast too. Brick & mortar places cant really do the price drops as fast just because they have all the extra overhead to pay for. While there are wagon sales most common with sofmap, still for the most part unless they really are overloaded with stock, its harder to make a judgment on what is / isnt selling from those compared to online. That and retail outlets generally carry less physical title stock these days than in the past considering how much of a beating they are getting from places like Amazon and Rakuten. Unless its a major title they dont go big with orders like the old days. So when more niche things sell out in a retail outlet, its more than likely due to low stock numbers than actually being popular. Then from there depending on the retailer they might not even bother to restock said title. Its more with the stores that deal with both used and new are the ones who tend to not restock or do it as quickly, vs places like Yodobashi and Bic Camera.

Call it hyperbole all you want, but when a game is fucking shit I say its fucking shit. You want someone to go talk "kittens flowers and sunshine" with go find Ryouga, since thats his bit. Yin & Yang right here.

*Edit

In short general consensus is that its not a game for fans of the series. Is the one recurring statement from Japanese gamers.

Any way to get Valkyrie Profile on my Vita or does Square not give a fuck? I forgot to get VP1 back in the day when it came out. :(

First they need to put VP1 and 2 on PSN. Trying to get a used copy of the first one is too expensive and I didn't even know VP2 existed until my PS2 broke and I don't want to buy another one to play one game.

I do have fond memories of the first one so I'd love a third one regardless.

Repurposed engine / resources would be the most likely situation. We all know SQEX will never come out and say these things in public so its going to remain an unknown cept for those on the inside involved.

But from a business perspective on paper and generally it does make sense the decision to scrap an IP that does not have the same attach rate when put in comparison. Which is why if said decision was made to choose between the two they went with FF:LR. Regardless of what we the fans think of said decision, it was the right move. As we all know SQEX isnt exactly doing the best which is why they do have to pick and choose when it comes to big budget titles. Which generally is what most console games are these days, considering production costs then vs now. They have to go with the route that would have more possible sales to recoup said expenses.

Not surprising they went with lightning too considering how much of a hardon Toriyama has for the character.

Question for those who finished Covenant of The Plume (I only played the first hour or so):

How does it fit exactly in the timeline? Lenneth is there, so it can't happen after 2. Do they address the end of 2? Does the ending of 2 override the original timeline, or is that an alternate world of sorts now where Rufus is the new Odin?

no s in spoiler tag lol *Edit I make that mistake a lot when manually typing it in.

Thats a good question, never thought of that. Been a while since I went through it, but thought it was pretty decent even though different from the other titles. Looking up info on that now. Found info mentioning that it takes place before
VP1

Well, that makes sense. It's also a bummer.

But now I'm thinking of how they can continue the series after the end of 2. Maybe they knew there were no chances of a sequel and that's why they made it so drastic?

In situations like that its really all up to the talent of the writer to create a whole story / scenario that actually fits into the overall timeline.

I respect your opinion! Thank your for your comments regarding sales trends too, wasn't aware of the details aside from it not meeting certain commercial expectations. I'm just surprised to hear your complaints about the gameplay seeing as though IMO its a step above Nier and Nier was a hell of a step above DD1/2. But at the same time when it comes to Drakengard its a guilty pleasure in terms of turning a blind eye to its almost unanimously generic/ sometimes plain broken systems. And narrative,....I liked the premise a lot, execution failed frequently without getting into spoilers but on the whole I'd agree its less but I wouldn't go as far to dub it shit even in comparison to Taro's other works.
(Id say its better than DD2's personally at least)
. On your last comment would you agree its more for fans of Nier than DD then? But I digress dont want to veer offopic to much.
