I ordered one.

Was just looking at requirements for games. I'm a little confused. Doesn't take a lot.

For example I was thinking Dead Space in bed with headphones etc.

I presume the requirements will be updated for steam deck. Or it will have its own version? As currently its Windows only?

I haven't been using steam for years so not up in the know how..

It'll be fine. Dead Space is "Platinum", so it will work great.

The email could be fake but if true it would make sense. M.2 slots are not user friendly to swap out for the typical user. For people that have built a PC then it is 100% possible to swap out with no issues.

I'm sure they did. Gabe is also oddly specific naming the exact size of the M.2 slot. I can't tell you what to think, but I personally believe they haven't soldered the storage.

This makes me excited about a potential Switch 2 in a couple years. I'm hoping they can match these specs. I remember alot of people said Switch 2 must be 1080p minimum and I've always said sticking to 720p is better and it seems Valvr agrees with that so I'm hoping Switch 2 continues to stick to 720p

Specs i suspect just seem deceptively low but at 720p (lets face it most AAA titles will probably need to run at 540p for good performance) or below i can see it actually managing 60fps in many titles. The APU specs resemble a cut down series S and that little box can hold its own at 1080p.

I know it's been stated everywhere, but I cannot understate how amazing this will be for a retro emulation machine, with almost no limitations based on x86. That $399 price is almost too good to be true.

Can it run Breath of the Wild on Cemu better than switch? That would be something, but I doubt it's got the grit in such a little package.

From the DF video this is likely to run at 1TF in handheld mode, and 1.6TF when docked. The Series S has 4TF at all times, and runs at 4x the power draw. This thing is going to struggle to play any AAA games released in even the last 12 months at decent settings and framerate.

To everyone talking about replacing the SSD - the Valve engineers and employees that did all the press specifically said that no, you cannot replace the SSD. You're only setting yourself up for disappointment. I think they would know a bit more about it than Gabe.

I doubt it will do 720p/30 with medium setting for actual "next gen" games. Look how the S performs - some of its games are hitting 720p already, and it is a monster compared to the Deck.

hitting 720p sometimes with dynamic rez on 60-120fps games. I'm pretty sure Series S will have the power for 1080p/30 or 720p+/60 with true 'next gen' games, and if it can, the Steam Deck should be able to do 720p/30 with lower settings.

Valve didn't plan for anything, they aren't targeting "generations". They'll either release an updated one in a couple years or scuttle it entirely if it's not widely used or financially successful. They didn't spend 6 years and billions of dollars R&Ding it like a console, they just approached AMD for a gaming capable mobile SoC, which they happened to have by virtue of cutting down and remixing much of the work they did for next-gen consoles. AMD was probably already developing the part to shop around to Nintendo, Sony, MS, Dell, Razor, Amazon, Google, Apple, or anyone else that might potentially want to make a Switch like product.
