Valve has officially ended CS:GO gambling sites

This happened yesterday but I just learned about this today, Boogie2988 posted an official letter from Valve saying that they're ending CS:GO gambling sites and it listed various ones that used Open API in the past.

Let me know if this is old, also I'm glad to be back on GAF.

Probably for the best. These gambling sites were something I kinda didn't mind at first but seeing them thrust into the limelight has really changed my mind on the issue.

Text, for those that cannot view the low-res image:

Saw this earlier and noticed that Steamloto wasn't listed at the bottom. I wonder why that is?

Remember them? It was the site where a youtuber came out and admitted his videos of betting were rigged.

Also, good riddance to the lot of them.

edit: Also (again) one of those site's name is CSGOatse... the fuck, dude?

RIP Dota2Lounge
I enjoyed what little betting on matches I did there

Yeah a few years ago I would bet items on pro DOTA matches and it was cool and fun, but I have no problem with them shutting this stuff down, it all seemed really skeezy.

they should have done this a long time ago from the beginning, not after things getting exposed and a lot of people getting scammed

can't wait to see the number of viewers for the next major. and how many will watch random matches with smaller or unknown teams

The lounge sites where you bet on games didn't seem very sleazy and helped smaller tournaments get views they would never get otherwise. It's a shame they had to be dragged down by those crooked gambling sites.

Kinda weird they only do this once the gambling sites start getting in the news and not when they were fully aware what was going on a long time ago.

Good move for Valve at this point. They should have done something about this 2 years ago, but at least they finally came to their senses.

I still think they're going to have to pay a truckload of cash to settle some of these civil lawsuits.

Valve is still a bit shitty for waiting for it to blow up in the news before taking action, but at least its done.

I like how these people aren't even worth Valve's time to write an individual letter for each site. Nope, you get one generic letter and you like it.

This has happened for so long, it took one fuck up to get Valve to do anything sadly.

All those sites being shut down have got to hate Tmartn.

"CSGOatse.com"

I chuckled.

Anyway, good. They sure took their sweet time.

It wasn't just CSGOLotto, though. Most or all of them would have fucked up sooner or later, as would the shutdown. They have no right to blame anyone but potentially themselves, even if they didn't do what CSGOLotto and other sites did.

All right, now that should (in theory) do something.

In practice, I will openly wonder who will comply in the long run. I know that CSGOBig has stated that their shutdown will be temporary, and is still running a sweepstake for a rare CSGO skin.

It was unregulated gambling market, they knew the shit they were doing was illegal, they can only blame themselves. I just hope it doesn't stop here because some criminal charges really do need to be brought on these guys, who knows how much they have profited from this shit.

looks like Valve knows shit is about go down. We've only scratched the surface of that rabbit hole it seems.

Yeah they've known about them for years but seem to be panicking now.

Sad that it always takes a big fuss or scandal to get something do, but at least it's finally happening now.

That would be the stupidest shit to do.

Why? Nobody is forced to use it and if you don't buy stuff often you actually make a decent chunk by selling stuff you don't use.

That would be a terrible idea, in fact most people use that market to sell trading cards and keys because you get credit in return.

I know. That's the joke. By that I was implying they're enabled this gambling crap, and to effectively destroy it you'll need to destroy the root of the evil, like the CSGO skins implementations on the Market. You can't go around eliminating these gambling sites and then let your own racket roam free.

This is ridiculous and an absolute travesty. How else am I supposed to win Rares and arcanas? Rip dota2lounge... I will never be able to vote against Navi fanboy the same way again

That would be rather foolish. If it continues it looks bad on Valve and they will take action with it in the limelight. If this whole thing isn't a sign to take your money and run I don't know what is.
