Thanks ashecitism! :)

Am I missing something or did they announced a new engine without providing us with any video or picture? Such a bummer, that is not the way to announce something like Source 2.

Why is Valve being so cautious? Please just release some footage we wan't to see it :( I mean, direct footage.

I think they might be taking their time perhaps, or maybe spacing things out a bit considering all the new stuff.

Seems like a new engine deserves a public demo of its features and capabilities for the sake of developers who want to know if it is worth using.

Maybe at the Vulkan talk or when they finally update the Steam Universe page.

Yeah, they updated that page from "The Steam Universe is Expanding" to "PC gaming is expanding". Like, VR and (likely) Source 2 go beyond Steam, so maybe we'll get something when they update it.

No your right, that's pretty much what's been happening. I'm guessing maybe the add something to the universe page soon. Well, I hope, because I want to know what it's like

Heh, it seems many tech writers were so transfixed with Vive, they for got to tell us the Aperture demo looked incredible.

I think it was very broadly covered in all the hands on impressions I've read. Couple of the mainstream sites mentioned it as the "best part" or "saved the best for last" part of the 15-20 min demo each journalist got. One mentioned it as the "least interesting" part, because it was limited interactivity. It was half cut-scene, half playable, which was a let down in a way after the "do whatever you want in the kitchen" segment before it. All of them mentioned that it looked spectacular.

haha valve is desperate to announce source 2 in the light of ue and unity.
they really bumrushed that announcement just to stay relevant or so they hope.

Why'd you say that?

"hey guys we're working on an engine too"
silence

Very presumptions to think like something that directive and how Valve isn't like the other two technological teams, considering they go more directly to the customers than studios for the majority of their profit, no? Just look at their business model.

That doesn't really make sense, mostly since we already knew that the Source 2 engine would have to have an announcement in the early part of this year because of the changes that are set to take place for Dota 2, and the content pretty much drying up for the past half year, with that reasoning given publicly

Why aren't Valve showing anything? Feels very much like a paper launch. Maybe Source 2 just isn't ready for the primetime yet.

It does look good but the low quality video makes it so difficult to tell. I'm sure that Portal 2 would look pretty fucking amazing with quality that low too.

Probably just no point in hiding it anymore. For all the programming talks they did, it'd probably be silly for them to be forced to avoid alluding the fact that it was coinciding with another engine.
