Agreed, but it doesn't mean the statement about pirating it is still something that is acceptable.

Don't take it the wrong way, but some users have made slips and the rest is just common sense :) Not interested in finger pointing or witch hunts, since i think everyone is responsible of their acts. Some times is quiet easy to tell, i.e. having issues proper of early leaked versions, or just check Human Revolution situation and the Crysis 2 one. Emulation threads also, some guys are straight as an arrow and do own those games, others just dont.
 
So I'm nearly at the end. A boss is giving me trouble. It's
the second form of the sheriff, where he turns into a giant bat
. Unfortunately, my ranged skill is only at 5 or so, which is probably complicating this. Again I turn to the wisdom of those who have come before me. Is there a solid strategy for this fight? I can't get a bead on the boss and the respawning trash enemies eventually wear me down. Is there a quirk of the AI can exploit or anything like that?

On a side note, it's kind of shitty design to let me play the entire game without needing gunplay (and in fact have it be more effective to use melee) and then make it mandatory at the end when it's all but impossible to change the direction your build is going. And more broadly, does the Plus patch do anything to make the portion of the game after Chinatown any less of a chore?
 
I got this for $13 and I feel it was good value. The description 'Deus Ex, but with vampires' is pretty apt.

For $5, well, there's just no excuse for passing it up. You'll spend more on a latte next week.

I would apply your 5 view point if it where GoG, in Steam you kind of rent games. Keyword "kind", doesn't matter anyway because the thread convinced me to buy the game. \('o')/
 
So I installed the patch, works fine, and I see the 7.5 at the top of the character creation scene. However, my textures are ABYSMAL. They look much worse than the ones in the OP.

Is there some kind of patch to "uncensor" them back? Shoot! Back in my day, that's what PC gaming was all about. The game might be great and I do love me a steam bargain but I would like to dismember folks if that's what the gaming director intended.
 
Same here, I own this game on disc but for the 5 euro's I'd like to have it in my steam library as well. Also, to play the disc version, you always have to put in disc 1 to play.

Looks like you have graphics settings set to low.
 
Are there more settings under graphics? Mine only had a toggle for Bump Mapping and Resolution in one tab, and options for Soft Shadows etc in the other. No options for texture quality or anything..

Do you have all sliders (geometric detail) etc. at max? I don't see any texture options either, but it's weird.

No need to be sarcastic, no one was offended. I was simply trying to warn you that the mods could potentially ban you for that comment.

if so, what the hell is that!! if i knew had to patch games, thats the first thing i would fix.

best way to sell this game to the neogaf crowd is put a bunch of slut vampire pics in the OP, then something about it still being a good game past that, haha.
 
Buy it. Just know that because you didnt buy it at release, youll never get anything else like it.

This is a moral dilemma for me.

I already own a physical copy of this game, but I'd love to have this game in my Steam library, because it's really convenient.

But Troika is dead and I don't want to give Activision my money.

In conversations, if you left click the mouse the subtitles for the conversation will appear. The subtitles option in the menu turns on subtitles for incidental text spoken outside of conversation mode.
 
Thirteen dollarer here. Only slightly mad.

Played through most of it, ran out of steam though. Loved the character interactions, and a lot of the exploration. One of the first missions was a real standout, but was downhill from there. The combat is the worst thing in the history of the world, worse than Hitler. I can't believe this was ever an acceptable way to play a video game.

I know the first post says differently but is it fine if I put the patch into C:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines ?

No worries, bro. 'Tis the world we live in unfortunately. I remember the good old times when folks could say what the hell they liked on the interwebs and glorious it was too. Nowadays, you veer from the official doctrine by a smidge and a big discussion erupts as to whether a simple ban will suffice or some form of public flogging is in order. The tightrope we walk seems to get narrower by the day.

<Cough>Ahem, for anyone who's paying attention I would like to confirm that when I said that "I wouldn't play this game for free" I was, of course, merely engaging in hyperbole for never did I dream that I would actually snag a free copy (and after being the happy recipient of Dirt3 just the other day, too)! Wow, Gaf is treating me better than most of my family at the moment. All hail GAF!!
