Vampyr - E3 Trailer | Will Be Released in November

between this & the latest hellblade trailer, we've entered full-on 'style over substance' territory, here. i'm amazed at the number of enthusiastic posters ready to throw their money at these collections of arty montages, devoid of any actual gameplay :) ...

Or maybe, some posters are more well informed and aware that there's a gameplay video already.

Combined with this trailer, people can make a good judgment whether they should pre-order or not.

Vampyr |OT| Remember, life sucks.

The music was a bad fit IMO, but I liked how they gave an overview of the setting, even if it was all CGI. It was kinda like a snapshot in time. There's some... interesting sights that I wasn't expecting.

So ready for this.

It was in engine, not CG. Not even nearly high enough fidelity to be CG.

Ah, ok.

I'm kinda never sure what to call non-gameplay videos anymore.

CG doesn't have any fidelity requirements; it literally just means CGI, or computer generated imagery. He's just conflating its usual, connotative quality with meaning. Being "in-engine" doesn't preclude CG: look at Source Film Maker videos all over Youtube as an example.

By "in-engine," all he's trying to say is that the trailer appears to be indicative of the graphical quality we'll see in game. However, being in-engine doesn't preclude misrepresentation: look at Breath of the Wild's initial trailer.

You're correct to call it a CG trailer. It's not showing any game footage. It could probably be called "in-engine CG" just to prevent dismissive responses.

I love how it swoops from the back alley slums to the high rises of the elites to the halls of government (vampire societal hierarchy shades of Vampire: The Masquerade?) Speaks volumes without a line of dialogue. It's all a really nice slow drip noir and that ending is fine bit of atmospheric mystery. It's about time vampires got a great game again.

I liked the trailer, but want to see some gameplay footage. Still, this is definitely on my radar.

Also this trailer vaguely reminds me of dishonored.

Holy shit. The graphics are insanely good. And it's a pre-alpha build. Is this going to be open world?

Sort of:

“It is a semi open world; that means that most of the different parts of town are all interconnected and you can go from one to the other very early in the game. Except for one part that is directly linked to the storyline and will be unlocked in the second part of the game, but you are free to go wherever you want.”

My totally uniformed ass says this game will be bad with a few redeeming qualities.

Are you coming from the future?? Pls tell us more. :)

I don't expect best game ever. But i liked Remember Me and i loved LiS so i believe that Dontnod can deliver, and give us another good game. I think that Vampyr has a lot of potential to be a good game and i hope that it will be success.

You're certainly allowed to whine incessantly about this fact, but it makes you look pretty silly when the things you're claiming don't exist, when in fact they do exist.

Boy I love CG trailers and pre-order DLC.

AFAIK, this is getting a closed-doors presentation at E3. I'm getting bad vibes from it even though the subject matter is right up my alley.

Hmm. I was assuming this was only cg/inengine, so that extensive footage could release at E3 through demos. That's worrying. Hopefully they release some gameplay demo during or after the show. Definitely not preordering till.

This game seems pretty damn big and deep, how have tehy not gotten that much coverage.
Was Life is Strange that much of a success that they went from Bankruptcy to making a pretty big game.

Focus Home Interactive is their publisher for this as well....they must have gotten a good deal from them cuz Focus Home dont have a huge E3 presence, couldnt they have asked Sqeenix to publish again just to get the game out there.
Considering they are releasing during a AAA heavy period getting people to remember there game is even around should be a priority....unless they are banking on the games uniqueness to keep people interested.

I liked the song.

It's just another CG trailer, like come on lol.

I noticed; however, in-engine non-gameplay is essentially CG animation.

What is this CG shit for a game that's releasing soon.

God damn we finally made it.

Games finally fooling people into thinking its pure CGI, fooling "gaffers" at that.

Not a great trailer, didn't show much of the actual game while showing a bit too much of the world, things I'd rather find out while playing.

Can't wait for the game, though.

You think Square would want to pub? After Remember Me bombed?

I didn't like the trailer. I wasn't too impressed by the game footage from last year either.

I can only stand back and hope that the full package turns out considerably better.

I don't trust this game very much, even after the masterpiece that was LiS. Cool trailer, though, I'm intrigued to see more before the release.

Well square is their publisher for Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2(wt).

Id think they could negotiate something with them for this game to get some coverage.

There's gameplay footage available anyway, of both games.

This isn't as bad as when an announcement trailer is made, and preorders are already open.

I'd imagine a victorian vampire action RPG is just more marketable, so they can more easily get a publisher for that, while Square-Enix was the only one who believed in their vision for Life is Strange, so if they couldn't just work with Square for everything, it makes sense that they'd keep the ones that are more similar to Life is Strange for them.

And this was also probably already in development before their massive success with Life is Strange, so from Square's point of view, it also wasn't exactly a safe bet to publish everything they do. Maybe from now on they will, we'll see.

So uh... what type of game is this supposed to be exactly?

Action RPG?

It definitely looks cool, but if it's going to be difficult ala Dark Souls it will turn me away :(

Because I can never git gud.

I find it hard to believe that it won't at least have an easy setting. This is far more narrative heavy. In fact, what they've shown of the combat was pretty unimpressive. The most interesting thing is how feeding ties into the story. You'll have to choose your targets from developed characters, with their own storylines within the city, and your choices will have consequences for their stories.

You can also choose to not feed at all, but this will also have consequences, because that's how you not only stay alive, but get stronger. I'd imagine things could get quite hard, even on easier settings, if you choose not to feed.

Yes, it's action RPG but I don't think it's aiming for Souls combat.

It's also gonna be heavy on detective stuff from what I've seen.

I want to see more gameplay! From what we've seem, this looks really interesting. I think I'll get it.

But that cover is really ugly lol

Yeah. The name, the boxart, the main character design... It's all just really generic. When games are struggling to even get clicks on their banners on Steam, it could really hurt sales to have such a bland first impression.

Hopefully it can sell on Dontnod's name alone.

EDIT: Though vampire games are quite rare these days, so that niche will be paying attention no matter what.

Nah it had some good ideas in it but far too much time was spent with that garbage tier combat and far too little time was spent with anything to do with its interesting premise.

Agree with this.

The music and art style was great. It's combat was not. It would've been better if it played like LiS. This new game just feels like another attempt at trying to do action. But without the interesting aspects from remember me.
