Does anyone here have Kaiser that covered this? I'm consdering it but I want to be KNOCKED OUT. I coulld not handle being awake for this procedure.

I had it done fully awake with just local anesthesia, but really wish I hadn't. If I could do it all over again, I would have them knock me the eff out.

I'm looking into this for when we make a decision about whether or not to have more children...everything I've heard from those that have undergone the procedure say it's pretty straight forward, an easy recovery time and just generally nice to have the old pistol go off with a loaded round.

About to book an appointment for this but im still on the fence, I already have 2 kids and im sure I dont want anymore but im worried about 10-15 years from now when im someone else completely, wanna make sure I dont regret it.

It's reversible, if I'm not mistaken. Granted it'll mean another procedure (or two, if you're closing up shop again afterwards), but if you want 10 - 15 years of condom free/pill free sex, but all means...

Doctors generally don't want you to go in with the attitude that it's reversible, however. They don't want people to think on it as being a temporary thing.

I had mine done about a month ago, all seems well so far. Probably going to have my first test tomorrow on making sure it took.

If you are in the Seattle area go to Dr. Snip. He's an artist. No scalpal, no needles, and no stitches. Whole thing is over in 20 mins, and you're walking out the door.

I'm having a vasectomy this Friday the 13th.

Just finished the pre-snip ball shaving. This is a regular thing for me, so it was nothing new.

Planning on laying around Fri-Sat with my legs up playing the Last of Us for the first time on my brand new glorious 60" Black Friday TV.

I'll be posting in the thread over the next few days as everything goes down.

^^

Very nice, good luck! Yeah, just take it easy over the weekend...lotsa reclining and frozen peas on the 'ol sack, and you should be just fine.

I just got snipped on Monday. I'd been thinking about doing it for years, and my wife and I were dead certain we didn't want kids, but I'm also hugely afraid of pain, and I have severe needlephobia, so it took me a long time to take that last step and get it done.

I got past the needlephobia by going to this guy: a doctor that does a no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy. With that out of the way, I figured I could handle a little bit of pain -- after all, I'd have my wife with me in the waiting room/once I got out, and my in-laws offered me a drive so I wouldn't have to worry about getting there (because neither my wife nor I drive).

...And then the day before my surgery, my father-in-law has a heart attack and is hospitalized, so no more drive (and in case anyone wonders, he's out of the hospital now and resting comfortably at home). Okay, I figure, I can still cab there with my wife.

...And then the morning of the surgery, I get awoken by the sound of my wife puking her guts out. (The irony of being awoken by her being sick in the morning on the day I'm committing 100% to being childfree is not lost on me.) So now I have to go all by myself.

I get to the doctor an hour early because there was a snowstorm and I figured it'd take me forever to get a cab, and forever to get across town to the doctor. Except the cab comes right away, and the roads are empty so it doesn't take me too much longer than it normally would. The nurse tells me to pop the Valium and Gravol right away, because they've had a bunch of cancellations and late arrivals, so they're going to see me in fifteen minutes, rather than sixty. I dry-swallow the drugs, and try to remain calm. Seeing a few guys hobble out looking not too bad, I start to think that I can handle it.

Then I get called in. I sit down in the doctor's office, and I have a full-blown panic attack. Doctor comes in, tells me to calm down, lower my pants, and hop up on the table. I do that, hyper-ventilating the whole time, hoping the Valium takes effect at some point soon. It does eventually, but not until I'm lying there afterwards. I must've looked terrible, because rather than having me go sit in the waiting room for fifteen minutes, they send me to a back room to lie down on a couch.

As for the surgery itself...it was pretty fast. They numbed the area with a blast of cold air or something (they described it as being like a rubber band on the skin, and it totally was), then there was a bit of tugging, then a bit of heat, and that was it. I've felt more intense pain (as in the day before, when I was using some scissors on that area in advance of the shaving and my hand slipped and I nearly vasectomized myself -- that hurt WAY more), but it's not something I ever want to repeat again.

Anyway, I've basically spent the last two days lying on the couch, reading and playing video games. I have some painkillers for when I need them, and I'm icing it intermittently. It still feels a little sore (the pain's not as bad as a direct hit, but it's more sustained), and the whole area is a little bruised, and I'm still having a bit of trouble getting up/sitting down, but on the whole, I'm definitely noticing some improvements over the past 60 hours or so.

So...there you have it. I figure if someone as pathetically wussy as me can get it done, pretty much anyone can do it,

Fucking christ, reading the operation the OP described made my palms sweaty. I'm gonna wait 10 years and hopefully they'll have better technology by then.

I had one at 29... and 32. One of my tubes had reattached itself. That was a fun discovery.

Fortunately, the procedure was no big deal, with either doctor. The only painful -- or at least uncomfortable -- part was getting the anesthetic shot.

that can happen?! =-O

I can't even comprehend a vasectomy at 31. I don't think I even want my first kid before that age.

I'm 28. Wife and I are certain we don't want children. Also, fuck condoms and birth control.

About 5 hours until the fun begins. Gonna go out and get my painkillers and some frozen peas for my balls soon.

You and I are a lot alike, good sir. I'm 28, my fiancee and I know we don't want kids. Condoms are the devil and birth control is too hormone-y. So I'm meeting with a urologist next week.

What city are you from? Maybe you can refer me if we're close.

Getting snipped on the 23rd. 34 yrs old 3 kids.

Always keep my balls shaved anyway and getting the no scalpel procedure done.

It's really rare, but apparently it can, because it did. I tested sterile for two years, and then suddenly I no longer was.

The second vasectomy took -- though some part of me still gets a little nervous in months when my wife is late by a couple days.

I had it done and was not that big of a deal, pain wise. Very little swelling. And not having to worry about birth control is awesome. I am married (and 42).

Am i the youngest person (at 23) who wants a vasectomy? I feel like everybody says I dont know what I want yet but I've felt this way for years even before sex was a thing for me.

I did it. Wide awake. Didn't hurt. I got a tad woozy because I hate needles, so they reclined me a bit so that my head was lower than the rest of me. Cooled me right down. They made me buy an athletic supporter to hold the gauze and stuff on there. I was told to wear it a week, took it off as soon as I got home, never felt the need to wear it again. I had a little pain a few days later, but never used any pain killers, let alone the narcotic the doc prescribed me if I felt I needed it.

All in all, 10 out of 10, would recommend. Didn't even need to shave, tiny incision, 1 stitch. That was about 3 months ago and has more than paid for itself in that time. Bow-chicka-wow-wow. The worst part of the whole thing was taking my sample to get tested at a lab a month later. Lobby full of strangers and I had to hand over a cup of goo to a cutie behind a desk. Ugh.

3 girls, married, 35.

I got it at 41, but I knew at 23 that I did not have to have my own kids. My wife was on the same page as I was and I have been with her for 20 years now. She is pretty unique about kids, loves them, dedicated her life to them professionally, but did not have to have her own. You may be sure, but your partner (current or future) may not agree. So, just keep that in mind.

I've wanted one for awhile, but lacked insurance to get it done. I'm 26, but would rather not have that even a shot of making a kid right now. that shit is the real std in life.

I would like a vasectomy done after I have 1-2 kids. Procedure sounds pretty scary though.

It's really not that bad, if you get the "no-scalpel" procedure, which most docs do now. I just looked up at the ceiling and took deep breaths; was over in about 10 minutes.

Later, my wife said to me "Did you enjoy looking at the procedure as it was done?" I said "Are you nuts?! I'm not looking at that...I trust that the doc knows what he's doing."

Well current doesn't want either and I feel like she may be the one.

Yeah dude they really are. Kids are cool but not mine. My main holdup is the insurance thing too, and graduating. Hopefully I can get a job that has decent insurance.

edit: that reply was terrible, god but I cant arsed to edit it.

Makes sense to me. I always knew that I didn't want kids (think they're great, just not for me), and that never wavered. I figured I'd wait until 25, just to be sure, but I really didn't need to. Wound up going a few more years than that, because everyone I dated was on the pill, anyway.

Funny to see this thread revived, I actually got it done 3 weeks ago.

No regrets and actually having a lot of fun in bed with the miss, no condoms and no consequences sex is best sex.

Pretty glad I got it done

Before a 21 year old starts thinking they should do it, keep in mind im 30 and already have 2 kids.

Chicago.

I knew I wanted it done around 20. Many times I wish I had just done it years ago.

No, I wanted one from pretty early on in high-school. Finally had one done at 27, no kids.

This is a great thread. Debating scheduling my appointment soon but my wife just discovered she has a cyst on her fallopian tube but its not cancerous. They have to remove the cyst and asked her if she wants her tubes tied in the process. I wonder how much more difficult that would be. If it complicates things for her surgery, I will just do the vasectomy.

I'm glad I'm not alone. My mom wants grandkids and thus doesn't support my decision at all.

My mother and mother in-law both want us to conceive. My mom already has one from my sister but my wife's mom does not, and brings it up every time we see her.

It's gonna be fun breaking the news, let me tell you...

I envy you. I was told to wear it four days; I'm on the 4th day now, and as uncomfortable as it is to wear, it's even more uncomfortable not wearing it.

Two questions for everyone who's had it done already:

1) For anyone who had it glued shut, did the glue just eventually fall off? Was there any blood afterwards?

2) And speaking of blood: is there seriously blood in your ejaculate the first few times post-op? Because I'm not sure that's a sight I can handle.

There is. Its more like scar tissue though and its COMPLETELY normal. Goes away in a couple weeks.
My full recovery took about a month.

Feel free to ask questions :)

Did mine last year at 31. Local anesthesia. My wife watched until it was too much. I spent the next 24 hours watching Netflix movies. All in all, pretty sweet. I have kids already, btw.
