Vehicles in Half-Life 2 Suck Ass

The problem is the user. I watch my friends play HL2 and its so painful, then they say the game isnt that great and it just KILLS ME. If you played HL2 like i do .. but i cant expect kids to log in my hours in FPS.. but just dont say "VEhicles in HL2 sucks ass" you fucking retard =[

They do.

I wouldn't say they "suck ass", but they certainly could use improvement. I'm not much of a FPS gamer, but pretty much any FPS I've played outside of Halo has awkward vehicle controls.

lol Halo vehicle controls. I guess they're passable for the retard form of FPS controls, but Operation Flashpoint absolutely destroys Halo for vehicles and vehicle controls. I don't really get the hate for HL2's vehicles either, but then again I played HL2 as god intended on the PC. They aren't perfect or anything, but they're way better with mouse and keyboard than they are on a gamepad.

I'm a HUGE OFP fan... but the vehicles were definitely one of the weakest parts of the game.

I did, for my fifth time playing through it. Other 4 times were on PC. Am I still cool?

Yeah you're a pretty ok guy

Only time I've played HL2 is on a PC. The vehicle controls were still terrible.

There is a reason why Valve has never been able to implement them in MP you know.

Except for the final driving sequence of Episode 2, I always considered the driving portions of the games to be boring filler. It made the world you explored seem much bigger but I was always looking for the next building/base/whatever to get back to what the game did best, physic based first person combat.

I've played both the PC and Xbox 360 versions. Neither version made the driving sequences seem any better in my opinion.

Yeah, honestly I didn't like the vehicle controls in the game, felt like a chore really. But the rest of the game was great.

I liked the vehicle sections in Half Life 2.

Fuck you guys, and you do get out of the boat and car every five or ten minutes anyways.

Finished Water Hazard yesterday, and the boating around wasn't so bad, it was a nice break from that damn sewer :lol

Got stuck and rammed walls a lot, though, I miss being nimble and precise a la Halo :(

what!? never had any problems with the vehicles. the sequences were just too long... but the controlls were fine :|

I really enjoyed the vehicles and had no problem with the controls. That includes the hoverboat too.
Same. But then I kind of feel like the 'SotC horse is not broken' crew...maybe I've just taught myself to eat shit and enjoy it?

From the tenor of your posts, I'm going to go ahead and guess you have a neurosis.

The car is very difficult to control, but the hoverboat is fantastic.
Fortunately, the vehicle segments are the best parts in the game. Nothing's better than jumping all over the place in Water Hazard, or exploring abandoned shacks along Highway 17.

What? I totally never heard anything about the horse in SotC before. It's fine. The camera sucks and occasionally causes you to run into walls, but the horse in SotC is great. It will even work to dodge some obstacles on its own. The only troubles I have are when it inexplicably decides to walk at a snail's pace down reasonably wide paths.

i guess you just suck at the game because the vehicles in hl2 control fine. they're not very inspired in design, actually they look kind of shitty, but they control fine.

so yeah, you just suck.

I've read a lot of complaints about the way the horse handles. Especially in the forest sections or areas with a lot of ridges it wont jump off of. But this is neither here nor there, I brought it up to illustrate a point, not to discuss the merits and demerits of SotC's controls.

so true. the tank (? can't remember what it was) in siege was cool too. never understood why they removed the vehicles :(
Haha, glad to see someone remembers that. The APC in Siege was exploited like crazy. Shit was hilarious.

So what exactly is the complaint here? The controls of the vehicles, or the way the vehicles handle? Or both?

Frankly I found absolutely nothing wrong with either or any. The vehicle handled like shit, sure, but did you fucking see the vehicle? It's a stripped down dune buggy with an engine out of a fucking muscle car or something. It's not going to handle well.

The vehicle in Episode 2 was much more of a pure car, weighted with proper suspension etc and handled accordingly better, but still not a fucking Lexus on an immaculate concrete roadway.

Vehicles in Halo >>> vehicles in HL games

Last level in Halo 1 would be never, ever, EVER possible to beat in HL2 engine.

God I love Halo vehicles and vehicle based levels.

Ahh... I was just surprised. I didn't follow the game when it came out and I'm just playing through it now.

The snowy level where you get Scorpion (tank) is my most replayed Halo 1 level ever.

Amazing level design and amazing gameplay with sniper marines owning the covenant bastards from the side of my tank while I roll through the snow.

Thanks. That will never ever happen though.

Halo vehicles bugged me. Instead of actually driving them, you'd go back into 3rd person and the vehicle would follow the camera...

It controlled well enough, but it was very indirect and totally out of place for a first-person game.

Vehicles are easily the weakest part of the Half-Life games.

Would be fun for a few minutes maybe, but they drag on and on and just become tedious. The Water Hazard chapter was what, like 30 or 40 minutes long? Come on... And you go through so many stupid load screens during the vehicle portions too which completely ruins the excitement of driving at top speed.

Just poorly implemented. They were handled better in the episodes but still not exactly fun IMO.

I would rather have more vehicle sequences in Half-Life games than platforming. The platforming can be very annoying as you are required to be precise in some spots, but the controls don't allow you to platform with much precision. I will say that I had an easier time with the platforming segments in HL2 and Ep. 1 on 360 than I did on PC, but it could have been that I had already played through the game before.
