Verdict on the Super Slim PS3?

I am thinking about picking up the BF Super Slim PS3 deal but I am a little worried about the build quality and even more so the drive noise. For those who have the Super Slim, are you happy with it? Is the drive noise a deal breaker? Should I just buy the slim instead?

It's quieter than my old fat but idk if that was considered loud. The grill isn't great looking but the build quality is good. I thought the system is overall quiet, didn't notice any noise over the games sound.

Coming from phat to super slim I really like it.

I hardly ever play disc games so I haven't really noticed the drive noise.

Is the regular Slim model no longer being sold where you live? I haven't tried the Super Slim but I've heard that it's a cheaper and inferior version to the Slim.

Just pick up whatever is cheaper, or whichever one offers the most value in a bundle.

These minor iterations should mean nothing, especially for the ps3 when they added nothing and removed certain features (none that were signficant though).

I would avoid the fat one though, heard some problems over time with games like twisted metal and ylod. Those are just rumors though and I'm positive theres quite a few gaffers who have never ran into problems with their fats, but I'm more comfortable with the slim and don't want to take risk.

I will say that the recent slim version is super sexy with its all matte finish and hardly any glow in the dark LEDs. The first version always looked kind of strange. Get it while you still can (pretty sure it's still the cheapest model).

It's great if you're going the DD route, quieter than the old slim. But the disc drive is supposedly louder than the old slim.

It is incredibly quiet. I love mine, it is leaps and bounds ahead of my old fat PS3 in terms of quietness and build quality.

My 60gb fat just died as well.

The dilemma is that they are really pushing the super slim with Black Friday deals that will bring it to $200 with a couple of games.

While I'd probably rather have a slim, the SS price on sale is just too hard to beat.

I don't hate it but it sure looks like those notches are going to ruin those bundle ps3 with the nice graphics on them. The yakuza 3 ps3 compared to the yakuza 5 is a huge down grade.

Isn't PS4 coming out next year? I'd pick up a used one to get me through that time.

I haven't owned a PS3 yet and there are a lot of good games in the catalog that I want to play. Plus I bet there will be no BC in the PS4.

Here are my impressions from the other thread

The system is fine, some obvious corners were cut, but the system is hardly shit.

Thanks for the impressions. I just wish Sony would have put some more effort in the noise blocking on that sliding door or kept the old drive. I may end up eventually getting a Mixamp and some nice headphones so that could solve the drive noise problem.

it's ugly

It is pretty damn ugly, but honestly that is bottom on my list of concerns. I want something that is going to last me for a while (I have a lot of games to play and my schedule does not allow me to play a lot), and isn't too distracting in the noise department. I am a little worried that over time the mechanical door is going to break.

Exactly, the BF deal seems like the best bang for your buck.

I got the Super Slim after Thanksgiving and I find the spin-up/spin-down noise during gameplay to be extremely annoying. If it's just playing a cutscene and constantly spinning it's pretty quiet, but in gamplay it starts and stops all the time with the few games I've played (the first Ratchet, and Uncharted so far). I don't think Infamous 2 was as bad, so maybe new games are better, but so far it's been very noticeable to me.
Maybe I need to try putting the console behind my TV cabinet or something.

Can you install games to the Harddrive like on the 360? It has like 250GB that I'm not using, and I would love to install the games if just to silence some of the disk spinning.
