I mean, even during the PS360Wii generation higher development costs (and despite more expensive games), basically forced publishers to rely on various kind of additional income like DLCs, microtransactions, subscriptions, etc.
Even barring the Wii (which is nonsense to me, but let's do it anyway) we're talking about - roughly - a 180 million unit installed base.
How's that supposed to work with just one successful platform holder at around 100 million, and games arguably even more expensive to produce compared to the previous generation?
