What is it?
Verizon's New York Event. It's heavily rumored that they will finally announce that the iPhone will be coming to their network.

When is it?

Any liveblogs?
How do you know that the iPhone is FINALLY coming to Verizon?

Sooooo ready for this to happen. It's going to be great once everyone who hates AT&T's shitty service go and run to Verizon lowering the network strain and making call and data quality better. I'll be even happier when Sprint and T-Mobile get it too.

Switched to ATT a year ago. Sorry Verizon - you just got too expensive.

What? I had an iPhone 3GS for eight months and came back to Verizon with an OG Droid. Same minutes, texts, and data for the exact same price.

I can not wait until I can get the iPhone on Verizon, but I am going to wait until the next major iPhone announcement in June before I make the switch.

1. My contract will be up with iPhone 5 comes out.

2. The verizon iPhone that will come out in Feb is just going to be a slightly tweaked iPhone 4.

3. I want to hear some initial feedback from early adopters to see if there are any major changes to the way we get apps or music... And I only mention this because I know vaw has their own v-cast stuff...

We may be witness to the greatest technical fail of all time should this NOT be the iPhone announcement.

BTW: I'm in for 2 16GB models as soon as they're available.

If it does happen I'm going to hold off on the first wave and be there day one for the Iphone 5 or whatever it will be called for Verizon.

Pretty much my thoughts. I've enjoyed my Droid, but it's time for something different. Oh, and I can't wait to finally have a good App store.

Well, maybe not fail but an amazing troll effort by Verizon and Apple :lol Even though I'm happy with my Droid 2 right now, it'd be good to know that I'll at least have the option to switch to the iPhone at some point

I'm excited for this even though I don't plan on getting an iPhone to replace my current Blackberry immediately. This kind of competition will be great and will force Android and BB to step up their game or be destroyed. Also, Verizon and ATT will have to compete on pricing and service.

For people who don't consistently use a ton of minutes, rollover wins. I pay for the minimum minute plan and yet still have thousands of available minutes I can use. AT&T gives me a nice 15% military discount too.

But had the iPhone come out on Verizon first, I would have never left verizon like I did to get an iPhone.

If i can get unlimited on the iphone on Verizon, i may buy my way out of ATT and head over to verizon.

I will piss myself if they announce tiered plans the same day or a special "iPhone" plan which isn't unlimited. :lol

you know what? that would be incredible. I kinda want to see that. I would have to eat a ton of crow but it would kinda be worth it just for the incredible head fake they would have pulled off. :lol

my wife's gettin this. she dropped and messed up her eris last week anyway right before the announcement so insanely good timing. which means i can play carcassonne with her now whoo!

i have a droid x but will probably make the switch once the next iphone gets to verizon. don't dislike my x but i'm just more comfortable with the iphone having used a touch for so long. also way better games :P

I concur as well. As much as I want the iPhone on my Verizon account, I'm willing to wait for other people to be the guinnea pigs.

With unlimited data, is it safe to assume FaceTime over the cell network is a lock?

not at all. it might, but i don't consider this a lock at all.

especially since it would mean a preferential experience on one carrier over another and Apple has avoided that in every other country

I switched from Verizon to AT&T for the iPhone. While I love all the things iPhone can do well, calling people is not one of them. I'm a bit concerned that iPhone, due to its design and antennas, will continue to suck as a phone regardless of which carrier you use it with.

Thoughts?

Honest question, does anyone really use video calling? I think the whole idea is stupid, the only reason people use it now is only for novelty.

This announcement is gonna kick ass, maybe att will go back to unlimited data.

works great as a phone in Canada on 5 different carriers (network congestion in GTA during business hours may be an exception :lol ). also seems to work well across Europe and Asia.

I do. My brother has an iPhone 4 as well and it's nice to talk to my niece when they live in NC and I live in NY, so I don't get to see them as often as I'd like.

They'll have to take my unlimited, uncapped 3G data from my cold, dead hands!

I can't wait for them to say that I am not allowed to even buy an iPhone from a third-party seller and connect it to my current plan, though; that's how they got all of the users that turtled on smartphones on which you could block/not pay for data to move to new contracts with data - by forcing new phones to require data plans. They'll move us off of our glorious uncapped plans by forcing the iPhone and newer smartphones to use a new, capped plan :(

Nah. It would crush Apple's stock if it's not announced. They would have leaked to WSJ if this wasn't the real deal.

it's all part of Apple's complex scheming, maaaan.

if that stock drops below 300, I'm gonna sell my plasma and buy some shares!

I'm on Verizon right now with a Droid (that I think might be a bit faulty), so depending on the price, I will definitely switch over to the iPhone if it gets released. I had thought about switching to AT&T for it, but Verizon's early termination fee is just too high.

I am so ready to jump, still have the EDGE phone am am ready to jump onto my wifes plan (she has been waiting and her new every 2 expires 1/27)

AT&T you can have the space I was using, after almost 4 years I won't miss you

Yeah, I am happy with my 3GS right now, and as much as I want off of AT&T, I am not going to deal with an ETF just so I can get a slightly tweaked iPhone 4.

I can wait 5 months or so until I can get a brand spankin new iPhone 5....

So the 'Verizon iPhone' implies that the iPhone is no longer exclusive to AT&T, correct? Does this mean we can finally buy an unlocked iPhone from say... a local AppleStore? This has been the biggest strike against the way Apple does business with AT&T in the US - that there was no way to unlock the phone without voiding the warranty.

Oh yeah. Right. That might be interpreted as 'paranoia' and 'criticism' against Apple which will upset the ADF :\

Oh, has anyone found any other liveblogs? I mean, TWiT might be doing live "meta-blogging" but, I can't seem to find any other liveblogs

arstechnica will be liveblogging it.

I'd imagine all the major techblogs other than Gizmodo will do it too.

If there's a hybrid GSM/CDMA model, that's not likely coming until this June.
