VG Tech: Bioshock PS4 vs PS3 Frame Rate Test

A frame rate test comparing the performance of Bioshock running on the PS4 and PS3. The Playstation 4 version was using the high fov setting and the Playstation 3 version was using the low fov setting. These are the default fov settings for each console.

Pixel counts indicate that the Playstation 4 version of Bioshock runs at a native resolution of 1920x1080 and the Playstation 3 version runs at a native resolution of 1208x680.

Aww crap. I didn't want to buy another remaster but I've been dying to show my GF this series for so long.

I wish it didn't look so good.

Noooo they fucked up the water.

The water effects blew me away when I first played it. Still good looking today.

that really annoyed me. it looked like it was missing some significant detail. thats the one thing they needed to get 100% right.

Yeah the water at 1:30 looks pretty bad in the remaster, no bubbles outside the glass either. I'm guessing the PS4 is how the PC rev looked?

Huh? Water looks great.

What looks dialed down is the lighting. In the same scene with the water rushing through the tubes, I like the damp lighting on the walls in the original, which is missing in the remaster where the lighting seems reduced. Hmm.

I guess it's more realistic, but I actually liked the abundance of wet walls in the original, lol.

At any rate, overall, the remaster seems like a net gain. Glad I preordered.

Looks good so far aside from a few things. I own them all on PC so I'll check it out later. But if they fix this up really nice and support Pro, I may rebuy just to support the franchise.

What have you done to my precious baby? How could this happen? Screen tearing? SCREEN TEARING?

Of all the games to not take care of, BioShock is not the one to fumble.

And my water effects... My beautiful sea... Or maybe it's the lighting that's killing it. This isn't what I have been waiting for. This is not my beautiful house. This is not my beautiful wife.

Wait, there's screen-tearing in the remaster??

Didn't I just see that in the video? I only watched it once and I'm mobile. I would love to be wrong.

Let the water hold me down if I'm wrong.

So glad I played this on PC, the PS3 frame-rate is horrible.

It's great that console gamers will finally be able to play Bioshock at 60fps, the series is incredible!
The frame-rate on the PS4 has some dips but it's not too bad though.

The artistic visuals of the original game appear to have taken a hit which is a shame but it looks like most of it is still intact.

It's a shame that Bioshock 2 wont have multiplayer in the remaster, it was really good!

from heavily modified ue 2.5 to ue3.

Ah, I thought so. Mostly the developers can not match the original artstyle. Something is always missing. Even on Gear of War for the XO. But besides that it was actually a pretty good remaster.

This however does not look good at all.

Waiting for a sale now. Not paying full price for a remaster of games this old not running at 60fps solid with other shortcomings. Good job, lowest bidder.

I'm not liking some of the artistic changes, will most likely stick with the original on PC unless patches fix things up or large improvements are shown.

Yeah I hear you.

If there's one series where you have to make sure you nail the water, this is it lol

Pretty bummed about this.

Yikes, Just compared PC footage, and the water is just as bad on the PC version.

I hope this gets patched, because on Steam your game gets automatically updated, losing the sweet, sweet water from the original.

EDIT: Not the case, they'll show up as separate games in the Steam Library.

You know, I wonder if they replaced Atlas's generic splicer model in Smuggler's Den with his model from Burial at Sea Pt. II. Same with Tannenbaum (though with Bioshock 1).

How are those frame drops even possible? My old laptop from 2011 with GT555M could run it maxed out 100+ fps most of the time.
