VG247 - The most comprehensive leak from one major publisher due to drop (NOT Microsoft)

imagination jerking off GIF

Am I doing this right?

Could be but normally very secretive and if I recall we never had major leaks from their events.

It's still burned in my head that interview Jaffe did with Jeff Ross where he recounted a story and he said Jim Ryan told the marketing people "If any of you leak this you're fired!"

Maybe he's half kidding but that's something that would linger in the room.

Getting fired would probably one of the least concerns to your personal economy if you were to break NDAs like these.

I remember some kid snapped a couple of photos of the Dualsense last summer, that kid probably had no idea what a serious situation their parent would become dragged into

Obviously leaks are horrible for all concerned, a lot of hard work on how they want to unveil the game gets destroyed. Seemingly this is a big leak and even though it can be exciting for us gamers it's really hard on the developer and publisher.

Plus if it had been leaked then surely the publisher would be better to just put it online in next day or two and get the hits, rather then wait two weeks to show it at e3, and everyone to maybe have seen and talked about it already, especially when e3 isnt that much of a big thing anymore

Has to be Ubisoft.
7/10 AC were leaked before time.

So NOT out of character as this leak supposedly is.

Its a publisher that doesnt usually leak stuff, and its not Microsoft.
Sony, Square, Nintendo are my bets......in that order.

I don't think it's as simple, they companies have obligation towards the event organizer, reserved time of the even etc. they cannot quit the show just like that just because something has (supposedly) leaked.

What does that even mean, most comprehensive leak? I'm not native English speaker and im confused.

It means more than a usual leak, where maybe we get an incomplete gameslist or a trailer leaking.

This one sounds like its the whole damn show including media assets, probably release dates etc etc.
As one of the tweets pointed out, the recorded show has likely made its way out of the company so the "leak" is basically the whole show and info.

These fucking cunts seriously. If you're going to leak then fucking leak.

This is like the diet coke of leaks. People pretend to enjoy it but they really want original coke.
It's just to get them more attention, people now know that gamers are too stupid enough to know their own worth and worship leaks too much, and people who are said leakers take that as an advantage to further push their crappy career in gaming news.

Oh yeah, these people love clout and and attention, with each new twitter follower they gain, they receive a boost on endorphins. They know that if they say what they know, people will just read it and move on with their lives, but if they tease out the info, the followers and attention will flow.

Absolutely nailed it.

E3 hype has been next to non-existent this year so I'll take whatever we can get to kick start the cycle.
Is e3 even a thing this yr, i thought it was a digital event only this yr due to covid, plus sony etc like last yr just doing there own thing prob a play event sometime beginijg of june

If someone actually leaked something then alright, kudos.

But shit like this when, if you look at what they said, they haven't said anything at all. So vague that it could be everything and nothing all at once.

Leonardo Dicaprio Ok GIF

If it was leaked as opposed to under NDA why don't they just talk about it, sad that videogame journalism is just another marketing arm for the publishers.

They have been for years. Schreier gets a lot of shit, some of it deserved, but he does great work and he is the only "real" games journalist out there. He's not looking to help market games for publishers, hes not eager to grab free cyberpunk racerx chairs. He puts out big, well researched pieces that offer us insight into the industry and pisses off publishers, what a journalist should be.

Yeah this is stupid. I hate when people do this. It's like Corey Feldman saying he was sexual abused by Hollywood for years and never saying the name. Just going on a marketing tour.

It goes for all media, especially with music. That is even worse. People love to take advantage of what they have in front of them. This is what I hated about leaks, I remember back in 2016 or 2015 I can't remember, the Switch was being talked about as the Nintendo NX. With that, people who are leakers started to claim that the Nintendo NX (Nintendo Switch) would be able to run games the same way as the current gen. People ran with the fact that they would use AMD chips and that it will be powerful but thing is, one leaker can't remember his name had it right all along, it was going to be a hybrid system with fewer specs than what people originally thought. My point is to say is that this is why I don't trust leakers anymore even if it turns out to be real.

See the take two article in one of my comments. I don't think they want to be the first to 'break' the story but once it gets on twitter/vimeo then it will be covered

This sort of reaction always puzzles me.

How else is the relationship between the press and publishers supposed to work? I mean journos don't create from scratch, they react. The publishers are the ones who supply the product that they react to; meaning that the industry is inarguably the more important party in the relationship.

So its natural that the enthusiast press is to some extent beholden to dev/pub, because they are the ones driving the bus that they are on. And if they (the press) don't like it they are free to go elsewhere, cover/write about something else.

In a situation like that its best not to alienate the driver. Because you need them way more than they need you, especially as there's a tacit understanding that this is a business relationship - this isn't besties hanging out!
