the problem I always had with this strip, is the green guy in the cake guns everyone down in the room without looking, killing every single human, however as you can see from the first and second panels, the two goons are also with Miggs, therefore if the comic is to be believed, if there was not a cake mix-up, the green guy would also have killed his two friends as well as Miggs.

Na he probably would have kill his 2 friends and run out of bullets by the time he was going to kill the mark.:lol

Or he was just shooting everybody EXCEPT his friends, and since they obviously weren't in the room he shot everybody.

Goddamn it. I spent four hours putting a photoshop together for this, and lost it when Fireworks crashed.

Fuuuuck,

Or his friends left the room and when they didn't hear any gun fire they got worried and returned only to find the target getting licked by dogs.

I think that art or entertainment or anything is best in telling more with less. In other words, cutting anything that's unnecessary and trying to be evocative and to the point. 1. Who's gonna tune you in if you keep going on and on when the point should be short? 2. You should be as evocative and unique as possible. There is a certain length that is needed to achieve the objective, and even going on and on can work if it's necessary.

Humor is especially difficult to judge because it's personal and there really is no right or wrong to it. When I do judge a joke, I look for uniqueness. If someone is making webcomics with jokes that I could have thought of, then I don't think it's all that special. These jokes are something that anyone on GAF could make. Pulling off the ironic "lame joke" is especially hard, and this strip brings nothing new to the table. Making the most mundane joke about someone's mom is tired. If it's tired, then it can't accomplish the irony. One of the few VGCats I enjoy is the Kirby hooker one because it takes two subjects and brings them together in a way that I woudn't have thought of. Comics also rely on timing. Penny Arcade's E3 strip wasn't anything original, but it had great timing with the context of the comic and the way in which it was done. VGCats just tends to drone on and on with barely a sense of what it's doing.
So your entire point is "Lame comic is lame, only one I ever laughed at was the Kirby hooker. PA sucks too, but they got their shit down to a formula, so eh"?

I get what you're saying, and I agree for the most part, but every time I read someone saying how something's too long, I can't help but think of pieces of art or literature where there being no point was the point.

Yeah, I agree that VGCats is nothing to call home about, but its because of the fact that its a joke that anyone could've come up with, that it makes me laugh, and I move on. Until I came to GAF, I don't think I ever came across any single person who was so hot and bothered by how "shitty" the comic was, as to go so far as to analyze it, criticize it, and photoshop it to the extent that GAF does on a weekly basis (or at least, every time the guy releases a "strip"). And its not like these are just 10-post threads either, they can go on for 6 or more pages, of people doing nothing but photoshops, and bashing the comic.

During highschool, I had 2 friends that would follow VGCats, along with myself, and we'd either laugh about it, or just not talk about it, like any other comic.

Its because its such silly humor that I can enjoy it for what its worth, and move on with my life. Some photoshops I've seen are genuinely hilarious, but most of the time, they're a waste of time, and make me want the past 10 seconds of my life back.

So yeah, I get what you mean, but GAF's obsession is just weird.

I think you're overestimating GAF's hate towards VGcats.
I actually think most people don't hate it that much, and just come here to have a good laugh at the photoshops.
At least, this is what I do and this is how I started doing them too.

I would have thought that too, until I start reading the comments.

I find vgcats to be as confused as 4chan.
"4chan being the arse of the internet. It cant make up its mind whether its and erotic zone or the place where the shit comes out."

I wasn't making a case for the state of the boards in opposition to the comic. People probably do pile on (I usually don't comment myself unless there is a really good reason to denounce something). At this point, however, it has basically become a meme, and so I look forward to these threads. They have basically become their own jokes. I usually am very careful in my criticisms; most people don't know why exactly they like or hate something and can fully articulate it so criticisms can be unfair and ill informed.

I think in this case it's apt. When I look at art, I really don't have much tolerance for anything that doesn't look somewhat professional. I expect the end product to be of a quality work if their intent is to show it off to internet strangers. There are enough bad pieces of art on deviant art that people seem to love for whatever reason. I find that incredibly disingenuous because these people either have low standards or are bad critics. But in being a critic the person must be incredibly logical in his criticism. I personally want an artist who can do something that is far beyond my talents. If my standards of work are high, then I can only appreciate everything below as a workman. I begin judging things based on scales according to a system that takes into account faults. After all, something incredible comes from my own hand. I have to be critical of myself in order to achieve a high quality. Therefore I'm going to be critical of faults that are prevalent in inferior works. By contrast, the person who aspires to recognize the high standards that these artists hold themselves to can smartly appreciate the best of what art has to offer. If I begin recognizing what is competent, then everything else will seem incompetent. It's not quite as clinical as this. It's more instinctual.

Comedy is a little different because it's so hard to quantify, but I expect that comics have a better sense of humor than most people do. And I expect that those who recognize this high quality for what it is also have higher standards. There are criticisms of VGCats, and if he's going to put himself out there, then he has to expect criticism. Some of it might not be fair. Some of it might be juvenile. But at this point it's part of the entire joke of it all.

I like PA though, but I admit that sometimes I don't really get the entire nerd culture that they strap themselves to.

He should have gone the extra step and made the fetuses at a more developed state. How they look now isn't all that offensive =/
