That's like asking why HDMI 1.4 can't be upgraded to 2.0 or USB 1.0 ports can't be upgraded to 3.0. Simply isn't isn't possible.

No, the translator was clearly botching it at that point. What we got clearly was "external capture", "HDM", and "more details soon". It's obvious they just missed the "I" and didn't quite grok the point being made.

As someone who enjoys making videos and having options at my disposal this is great news.
You can enable or disable HDCP on PS3 review kits, and as far as I know they use the same HDMI chipset as the regular retail console.
Even better, so it's confirmed after all.

i really hope the "more details to come later" is just a Youtube video of them hooking up an unnamed capture device and then recording some gameplay... then the Youtube video shifts to the direct feed of the gameplay they recorded...

Actually, HDMI 1.4 can be upgraded to 2.0 via firmware update. Sony is planning on upgrading their UHD TV's that way later this year.

What does Sessler have to do with this? I'm confused by this thread. I watch practically all of Rev3Games videos and don't recall hearing stuff about this from Sessler. I must not watch everything.

Judging from his tweets lately, it seems like he's just a huge Xbox One fanboy. I used to be a big fan of Sessler and love his reviews but holy crap so far this year all he's done is defend Xbox One and nitpick at PS4.

Oh, I do agree with that. I was just thinking Sessler himself must have brought up complaints against this issue for him to be mentioned so often in this thread.
Because the joke would only be funny if it made sense, and since they're different situations, it doesn't make sense. If Sony had said PS4 doesn't allow video capture through HDMI, and now they do, then his joke would make sense.
