Video game cartoons in the 80's, 90's and maybe present time

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
We all know the popular ones - the Nintendo stuff (Captain N, Mario + Zelda, Donkey Kong) and Capcom stuff (Street Fighter, Mega Man, Darkstalkers).

Although not too many people recall toon-Darkstalkers. Unless you're into handsome fish guys. Or terribly drawn Demitri.

What about Double Dragon? Where instead of chasing an enemy thugs, Billy and Jimmy are super heroes?

Oh and there's Mortal Kombat, where KOOOOOOOOOMBAT TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME!

Any other toons? Also I kinda wish it's still a trend. I would love a cheesy cartoon based on games like Civilization.

There was the Earthworm Jim cartoon, and it was actually pretty good.

Oh yeah I remember that. Pretty catchy opening too and didn't look cheaply made. Weren't the creators also behind the cartoon?

Battletoads

It was just a pilot though.

I only saw it here during December when the local channels would air various Christmas toons every before lunch. Kinda disappointed that it didn't have an actual show.

Then again, the toads involve punching balls, goring enemies, and all that violence.

Sonic Underground

Sonic SatAM

Sonic X

Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog

I don't really remember much about them, actually. I liked watching them when I was growing up though.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was very cheesy.
SatAM I remember being decent.
Underground was pretty bad, and I never saw Sonic X (that came out pretty late).

To be honest, I never saw the Zelda cartoon growing up, but I watched all the episodes on Netflix a few years ago when it was still on there, and although it's not the best thing in the world, and some of the stuff gets repetitive, I find it's kind entertaining to watch for a silly cartoon.

Mega Man has the best video game cartoon out of them all, though.

Sonic Underground was radical

Sonic SatAM was cool

Sonic X was weird

Sonic X is anime.

First post, man. I loved that cartoon. Especially that one episode with the Nameless Beast
Rosebud

I also really liked the Megaman cartoon, I stayed over at my cousin's and played vidyagames all weekend fairly frequently and we always watched that in the morning.

I remember the day this premiered, and it felt dissonant to the attitude of the games (totally wacky instead of an ironic mix of wierd n wacky)... But I did watch it for awhile and it was not bad for what it was.

What was the name of that Captain N-style show with all the terrible Z-tier characters from Acclaim or Accolade or whoever?

THERE WAS A 1999 RAYMAN ANIMATED SERIES?!?
How's the Pacman cartoon?

I enjoy Adv. of Sonic the Hedgehog TBH...
I found 4 ~12 minute episodes of Rayman on Youtube and that was the date in the description. As for Pacman, it's not the worst Pacman cartoon (Christmas comes to Pacland has that distinction), but it's still not that great. Feel free to look it up if you're morbidly curious.

Oh gosh...Power Team?

Power something.

Why, oh WHY did I look that up?

Western cartoons based on Japanese IPs = always terrible.

Western cartoons based on western IPs = not too bad.

And don't come at me with that Sonic SatAM garbage. Shit was terrible.

I remember Darkstalkers. It rightfully came on at like the pre-7am Saturday death hour that they put all the ultimate crap cartoons that could maybe generate more views than running an infomercial at that time but was so terrible of a time slot that a network wouldn't dare show anything of quality.

Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter ran on a cable only network before the days of Cartoon Network... meaning that it was a fucking terrible cartoon that couldn't cut it on the Fox or Disney cartoon blocks and got picked up solely because the logic was that maybe cable had so man channels that children would get lost and confused and there was hope that airing cartoons somewhere on cable would capture those poor souls that got lost on their way to X-Men, Bobby's World, Spider-Man, Eek the Cat, Life with Louie, The Tick, Batman, Freakazoid, Pinky and the Brain.

Video game cartoons are pretty much all bad. At least when I was a kid. There was a significant difference in quality that even a 7 year old can notice when comparing stuff like Captain N (which I believe ran on ABC before the Disney merger and the station was a shit show for reject cartoons on Saturdays) to say, Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Tiny Tune Adventures, Tale Spin, Batman, Animaniacs, etc. Hell, they couldn't even compete with the cartoons that aired on whatever local station you had that eventually became UPN/WB/CW. And they aired Might Max (which was > awesome), Denver the Last Dinosaur, Saber Rider, and Jumanji.

Even TBS beat them with Two Stupid Dogs and Swat Kats.

The old disney cartoons and bruce timm/paul dini were and still are, boss.

but captain n, the superfriends, and other bare minimum effort cartoons? I look back at them with disgust.

Finding out there was a 51 episode F-Zero anime that actually had 13 episodes play in the US and a 3rd game that came out on GBA in Japan with a built in track editor that I never knew about was mind blowing.

The only thing I remember about the super mario cartoons is that mario constantly made italian food related puns.

I don't understand why they did that. It'd be like having a black character constantly make soulfood related puns, mexican character having chimichanga related puns, etc....
