Video game characters so annoying you couldn't continue playing.

JRPG characters: The thread. One of the reasons the genre is so awful is the annoying characters. If more games had great characters like Xenoblade/Earthbound or funny ones like the Mario & Luigi series, I'd enjoy those games a lot more. But to be more specific, some examples: Squall and Seifer (FF8), Wakka (FF10), Ken (Persona 3), Lightning and Snow (FF 13), the whole Fire Emblem Awakening cast, but in special that abomination called Nowi and also half the Devil Survivor 2 cast, in special the 'bro' character who I forgot the name, etc.

A non-RPG example would probably Axl from the Mega Man X series. Why, Cacpcom?

Honest to the topic title:

The exact reason I quit playing Dust immediately. Insufferable.

Can't say I have done this ever, but I got close with this guy:

Heller from Prototype 2.

*insert OW the EDGE.jpg*

One of the worst protagonists I've ever seen in anything. Videogames or otherwise.

He really is a 14 year old's definition of edgy. At one point near the end of the game, he says "I'm tired of your fucking weird, fucking rambling shit" without as much as a hint of irony.

I'MA GONNA FACEFUCK YOU AND SHOVE YOU DOWN THE MEMORY SHITHOLE MOTHERFUCKER.

It's like they saw Isaac Washington from HotD: Overkill and decided he was a great character and tried to emulate him, but didn't realize Washington's a joke.

Doesn't even have to be a main character. Any character whose annoying presence in a game made you stop playing and/or turned you off the entire series. Especially if it's a game/series you might otherwise have enjoyed.

(Claptrap/Borderlands)

Encapsulates the shit gamer humor that I utterly loathe. Every time this fucking character opens their trap I get douche chills down my spine. It's like being trapped in room with these people.

Any character in a JRPG that exhibits the shit narrative approach that is melodrama. A single "ehhhhhhhhhhh???" is enough to not only make me stop playing, but also never start if I know up front that the game will be full of terribly written anime tropes.

This. Not only is his voice annoying, he's a dimwit.

*Gets a keyblade out of the blue, walks around with it half hour never questioning it*
*Guy asks him for it*
"OMG NO YOU CANT HAVE IT!*
"I want that key!"
"It's a key? No way!"

I tried to like KH... I really did =(

Never stopped playing a game because of one character I think.

Teddie is really insufferable in Persona Q though. This is coming from someone who didn't mind him too much in the main game. I'm playing through the game right now, slowly, but he does ruin every cutscene he appears in.

If Type-0 had fewer characters I might find Cinque more annoying, too. As it is I can just pretend she doesn't exist.

Susano from Okami

I cringed every time that idiot appeared on the screen. I kept playing but holy shit was he unbearable.

I hated Jack's voice from Red Dead, you play as him after you beat the game. I wanted to go 100% the game but I could not stand Jack Marston's voice!

The game already wasn't very good but this is basically the part that seals the deal.

Oh fuck I came into this thread to post her but it's the second post in... Guess I wasn't the only one who hates that girl with a passion.

At least the Japanese voices arent as bad imo..

I have a friend who couldn't stand the voices of the characters in Under Night in-Birth: Exe Late and really disliked the how much they speak during regular play. He particularly hated Hilda lol

Played it with me for a few hours and never looked at it again. He liked the the way it felt, but he couldn't get over the voices smh

I can't get past the title. Why do so many Japanese games have such stupid nonsensical titles? I've never understood that trend.

Anders in Dragon Age 2. He was kinda funny in the DLC with his cat, but in the sequel he was irritating, no matter if I played a male or female Hawke.

I find all the people saying Claptrap to be kind of funny. Yeah, he sucks everyone hates him, that's the joke. You were never SUPPOSED to like Claptrap, he's written to be annoying and intolerable and he's JUST pathetic enough to kind of pity him, but not at all feel sorry for him. Hell, no one likes him in-universe either. That's why his name is Claptrap.

As far as Borderlands goes, though, I never liked the psychos. They tried way too hard to make them seem crazy that its less disturbing and more "lel random". I'll say that whoever did their voice acting did a great job though. And Krieg is awesome.

Claptrap is alright, for an AI. I even played the poker game with him. Brick and Mordecai are reincarnated as retards in Borderlands 2. How cool was that? I haven't been able to finish this one. It's too bad. I kinda liked the first one. Pretty much no interest in the series now.

Sera in Dragon Age Inquisition left me slack jawed when she first showed up. No wonder she's the only NPC that you can kick from the party at any time.

Once they announced Serah was the main character in Final Fantasy XIII-2 I knew immediately I wasnt buying it.

One of the worst characters in a game full of bad characters made the lead. Square is weird.

I found her far more likeable and fun to play than most of the characters in XIII, personally.

claptrap from borderlands

kratos from god of war

geralt from the witcher

cole from infamous

bayonetta

the majority of characters in bioware and telltale games

I like every Final Fantasy character though, although I didn't like Lightning until Lightning Returns

but I don't like the characters of any other JRPG except Suikoden and Xenogears, and well maybe some of the Lunar and Chrono Cross characters

"Recker, YOU are the new squad leader!"
"Recker, do this!"
"Recker, get him!"
"Recker, help me!"

FUCK IRISH ! Worst character ever present in videogames.

JRPG characters: The thread. A non-RPG example would probably Axl from the Mega Man X series. Why, Cacpcom?

As someone who has never played a JRPG (will bloodborne count) I often click on xeno or other JRPG threads and then watch the video to see what I am missing/ maybe what the fuss is about.

Usually some high pitched screaming annoying stuff starts and I just stop. Maybe one day I will watch one and go OK I will try that.

There is often that much annoying sound that I often leave without knowing what the actual gameplay is.

Characters in Dragon age inquisition, specifically Sera and Vivienne who just got so annoying I just tried to not play with them.....after Mass effect I think they went out of their way to not resonant with most fans, I loved ME 3 characters....

Anyone quitting a game just because a character "annoys" them should be required to surrender their gamer card.

That have never happen to me, not even when playing God of War, Kratos is an insufferable douchebag that deserves a good beating and then being cast to oblivion. I quit the game because I found it boring and repetitive.

I can't say I've ever stopped playing a game solely because a character was annoying. The closest I can think to that happening was Disgaea, where Flonne being so incredibly annoying probably did contribute in a small way to me quitting the game. However, I doubt I would have continued even without her; I just didn't like that game.
