Video Game Magazine Covers (and ads) - Vintage Edition

Sad as it was, my family couldn't afford to buy me any videogame stuff. I could only play what my friends had or what was at the arcades or what stores had for demos. So any opportunity I had to read EVERY game magazine there was, I took. It couldn't compare to actually playing, but reading all these games and the strategies was lots of fun and allowed me to still talk about games with my friends.

Anyone remember these ads?

It was some sweepstakes you could enter that was in nearly every video game mag. You would buy tickets to win a full gaming set up. I entered and never won. I wonder if anyone actually won?

i'll post one of those soon... Hell it had a virtual boy in the damn raffle!

Datormagazin
Is there anyone in Sweden who had a C64 or Amiga back in the day that didn't read it at some point? The first five or so years the magazine was done in a tabloid format which meant that if you didn't take good care of your magazines they didnt last long. As a result the early issues are a bit hard to find these days.

Those two could have greppen my joysticken back in the day

Man, Neo-Geo was the worst. Why bother taking out print ads, when your system was super rare, and cost like $22,000 or whatever.

You could buy one at any Software etc.(now Gamestop) in any mall. It was just something that only adults would buy. I don't know anyone that owned one back then. No parent was going to drop $399 for a system then $150 for a game.

I have a whole box full of old video game magazines from subscriptions I've had off and on since the early 80s. I guess the OP says 3 images max, so I'll just post a random sampling. I went ahead and scanned my copy of the premiere issue of SEGA Visions, June/July 1990. Here it is, with a couple of ads:

Anyone else remember this one? They were only around for a year or less, but I'll always remember them for the gratuitous tits and ass they had in the issues. I remember one issue had pictures of the PlayStation memory card, only it was being worn around the neck of some big-titted hottie who's face ran off the edge of the page. lol They even had photos of some chick holding a Jaguar controller down between her legs. ha ha

Ah man. Makes you wonder why a sure thing like that didn't work out, huh?
There's another magazine that did stuff like this. I think it lasted like four issues. (They had a version for console gaming and one for PC gaming.)

I have the two PC ones somewhere around here, there's like a ten page spread of the model in the Santa outfit and thigh high boots holding various things. The article on Tomb Raider is like two pages of content and six pages of pictures of the model. They did an interview with Jeri Ryan about Elite Force and IIRC there's more pictures of her than the game.

Coolest part about it (I think the Christmas one) is this multi-page article on Team Fortress 2. The original version.

Minor quivers of nostalgia, especially that silver Sega mag and the FFVII EGM ones.

These are basically ads, since they are from an old free Video Game Magazine:

Does anyone remember these from Club Nintendo (since the magazine was free and they are over 15 years old, I guess its safe to post them? If they fall under the scan regulation, Ill remove them..)

There is a TON of avatar potential here.

They weren't *that* gratuitous. They had some passable models in one feature per issue but that was about it. (unless you want to count the Pretty Fighter coverage which I duly appreciatied) I mean, as shitty as Incite was, they at least put on a good show.

Man, Nostalgia. I was subscribed to "Game Players" since it was "Game Players Strategy Guide to Nintendo Games" all the way until the mag folded...which was then converted over to NextGen, which was an incredible publication. loved the cover stock they used.

Big Bump!

Looking at this, and some other scans I already had around, I've decided to make a tumblr for old gaming magazines -- covers, articles, ads and so forth. I love this old shit :)

Some of the ones I've added today:

The tumblr is here: http://oldgamemags.tumblr.com/

I'll be posting US bits, UK Mag bits, Aussie Mag bits, all that sort of stuff.

I have a closet full of old nintendo power magazines... one of these days I'll go through them. I'm just afraid the nostalgia trip would kill me.

(edit) When I say old, I mean the first 100 or so issues old.

Was just about to make a thread, when I found this so please excuse the necro bump.

The print ads for Saturn in particular are burned into my memory.

Ice cube has, for whatever reason, always had Sega's back. There's an Ione Sky one floating around as well, back before she went brunette.

And who can forget Johnny Turbo, Defender of the ill-advised Turbo Duo and assailant of what I guess was seen by the company as the huge threat of the Sega CD. Good God, how off the mark can you be.
