Videogamer issues apology over Uncharted 4 review

To everyone: Read it! It's very clearly a sarcastic, snarky piece of satire. Not an apology at all.

Funnily, an "in your face" clickbait piece like this stinks rather badly of thin skin to me.

Some reviewers should realize that readers have a right not to like their review of a game. The whole "It's my opinion!" excuse does not make them immune from criticism, whether it's warranted or not.

Even if indirectly, readers put food on our tables. Maybe some reviewers should be a bit more respectful of the fact that readers are entitled to their opinion too.

And if some readers' opinion is that a review stinks, maybe there's something to be learned from that as well, instead of mocking them.

Good thing that they did know to apologize to their readers for their awful review. What's left to do is to adjust the score to 10/10. After that, everything is all cool.

not to classy, but they are 100% right (if they produced a fair review explaining well what's good and what's wrong with the game)

"its [sic] clear his personal thoughts are all over this is a stupid review"

Did someone actually write this, like for real?

That doesn't sound much like an apology. It sounds a lot more like a backhanded insult at the people criticizing the review.

Is this sarcasm?

Love VideoGamer.

One of the few websites who just says it as it is.

Too bad we have a fickle and immature fanbase when it comes to this franchise (and many franchises in the industry)

It's kind of funny how gamers actually hate ethics in journalism. If every reviewer was paid off and gave Uncharted 4 a 10/10 people would love it.

Did they really get criticised for giving it an 8/10?
That sounds ridicilous.

Of course they did, if a big title does not get a 9 or 10 its a piece of crap. Videogamer should have known better than give this game a 8. I do not know what Videogamer are trying to prove by using the full 10 point scale.

It's a timely piss take, obviously. But I still think that Jim Sterling's unbiased ff13 review still takes the cake to this day when it comes to needling "fans"

That's the video version of an article he did not long after the game came out. It's amazing that all these years later that fanboyism, fanboyism never changes

As I suspected it doesn't seem like there was huge controversy around this review. They are trying to create one just to justify that article :)

Hahahaha that's awesome 😂. People get so attached to reviews for their games, it's kinda sad. Pretty much why I don't read em anymore, I want my own clear perspective going in.

It's really, really not hard to tell if you actually read the complete article.

I mean, it actually ends with:
I can't tell if you're being serious about thinking I was referring to the article and not the thread posts...lol this is some inception shit

(just in case: i was referring to the thread posts)

Between this and Jim's piece, I'm not sure what I find more sad. Trolls and idiots jumping at reviews or reviewers stooping to such a low level with click-baity stuff.

Ah well.

Are people still trying to pretend outrage happened over U4 reviews? It didn't happen. If you have to mine youtube comments for exhibits you don't have a case.

There's more to the Internet than just GAF, yes Youtube, also Twitter and the websites own comments section has plenty of opinionated individuals.

This is precisely why I feel like I am so disinterested in the game press as it is in its current form. Satiristic editorials like this speaks to the immaturity of the people that cover the industry. It's completely unnecessary and speaks to the level of confidence you have as a website that you feel the need to respond in this way.

I'm too old for this kind of shit. :P
