Videogamer: One game out soon "apparently completely broken" (Assassin's Creed?)

Like the Leveson inquiry?

So its a delayed game then?

Miller also suggests that one of Videogamer's employees should freelance for Konami and not inform the taxman, someone better contact HMRC.

Put in this way this is just FUD to get attention in my opinion.
You either tell the game's name and its objective problems or if you can't because of NDAs you just stay silent.

I don't think it's Fallout 4 because I don't think Bethesda are letting journalists get any actual time with it yet. In terms of marketing they're doing their S.P.E.C.I.A.L vidoes at a rate of once a week (Wednesdays) and releasing other videos like the one on the dog and the theme music but the game is still 6+ weeks away.

I think it more likely journalists will get the game for review and preview articles in around 4 weeks, once it's gone gold.

The comparison was to the actual peanut salmonella case that just broke the news. Also, people need to realize comparisons don't need to be 100% identical to be valid. Someone is about to sell stuff in bad faith, period.

Except that new peanut butter brands don't get reviewed by hundreds of different outlets who are there to tell us if the game is worthwhile and warn us if the game is broken. And buying a shit game doesn't endanger your health. And none of us should be pre-ordering anyway after last year's fiasco; so if you get a game on day one and it's broken, it's your own fault for not waiting for reviews and YouTubers to spread the word.

In one case someone broke the legal agreement they made with their employer. In the other...nothing at all really happened.
Both started by an "off-hand comment" that, if not run by every other major media outlet, probably would have started and ended in a podcast, with no harm done.

All this has done is shake people's confidence in pretty much every major game releasing this holiday. This is a huge issue in the industry right now (releasing broken games). Using terrible, vague-but-just-barely-not-NDA-breaking language to fan the flames just feels bad.

Syndicate is out in less than 30 days and after last year, no way would Ubisoft ruin the franchise by releasing it broken again. If anything, it would be really sad if it's not Assassins Creed and something else causing indirect damage to its launch.

I mean Ubisoft did it to themselves by annualizing the franchise and releasing Unity undercooked but it's unfair to the development team if the game itself was released just fine but false allegations before launch ruined it's forecasted performance.

Best wishes.

This thread is so incredibly NeoGAF, I almost can't believe it.

Serius Journalizm! Broken Games! Assassin's Creed! Teh Ethicz!

It's like a dream come true.

Seriously, it's ridiculous. They will name it in due time. If it's still coming out you never know if it might get some fixes. Also just don#t pre-order everything and you have nothing to worry about.

"It does have to be good, doesn't it? Let's hope that it's good."
"They can't have two shit ones"
"No, they can't. Let's hope that it works..."
You're really reaching there as confirmation that all of out the games mentioned, (especially when multiple people in this thread have said otherwise), that the game is broken.

Lord Justice EviLore seeing over the inquiry into ethics, practices and relationships between publishers, consumers and the games media.

"It does have to be good, doesn't it? Let's hope that it's good."
"They can't have two shit ones"
"No, they can't. Let's hope that it works..."

And that's confirming AC is broke ? lol.

What the fuck guys, calm down. I think it is genreal consense that this AC has to be good and they're just saying that.

C'mon it can't be AC. Ubisoft can't be stupid enough to pull the same fiasco they did with Unity's release!

The thing about Halo is that, we played it 10 months ago. It was fine. And people are playing it now. If those things didn't happen if say sure. Plus 343 has actually been working on it and not outsourced it.

I think Battkefront mainly because it has to hit a deadline no matter what. We'll see how everything goes during the beta

How does that in any way hint that assassins creed is broken on a technical level

I mean damn the Op posts rise of the romb raider as not broken but recent videos show dissapearing enemies in the middle of melee animations and frame rate drops to low teens when near any kind of post effect

I'm betting on Star Wars. Damn, I was looking forward to it. Well, I can get it next year then.

I doubt it's Assass, because Ubi made that mistake and even they can't be that stupid, right?

It was done to "fan the flames"? Not, because, you know, they were having a conversation and made an off hand comment related to the topic?

In no way is this the same as the Chris Pranger situation.

All I'm saying is... this is like that annoying person we all know that says things like, "Okay, so we were in the meeting and then -- no, wait, I shouldn't tell you guys this!" or "I can't believe I'm going to tell you this but... no, no, I can't do it!"

Just don't even start it. If you can't talk about it, don't talk around it. Just don't start any dialogue about or around it.

If it's Assassins Creed, would that surprise anyone? AC:Unity launched as a buggy mess with lousy gameplay and horrendous issues on PC. If I were a betting man, I would bet that the next AC will be similarly buggy on launch, horrendous issues on PC, and likely have the same gameplay that has stunted the series for 5+ years.

It's reading between the lines but ... it seems pretty obvious to me. Don't just read the text, listen to him say it. Well, Ken and Setsuna at least, I don't expect Crossing Eden's impression to change at all.

Seriously, listen.

jim rubs millers bald dome and the fall's biggest broken game appears for a few seconds, that's how they know.

if it is AC (fuck me sideways what are you doing ubi), then maybe that PC delay was a blessing in disguise. popcorn.gif

I know it's easy to blame publishers for the amount of broken games we see but perhaps if we had a games media with journalists willing to say "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate seems like it will be broken at launch" instead of being coy and making maybe/maybe not statements we would have a more consumer-facing industry as a whole.

you dont usually get access without NDAs, and even without one if you come out and say this game is looking like its fuuucked you will prob end your relationship with that company, and for a small outfit like videogamer thats unfeasible.

I'm not preordering anything this fall. The MCC debacle pretty much permanently cured me over preordering fall games, and I'm speaking as somebody who has been buying console games since the early 80s.

He is right though, imagine the VW scandal but the journalists would say "well the emissions of cars from one company are higher than they said but we wont say which company"

why shouldnt we hold the same standard of journalism to all areas?

Aside from the massive fucking difference between something that could quite literally kill people and something that's fairly frivolous, it is worth pointing out that they probably haven't played this game based on their wording. They probably have information from somebody inside the publisher or close to development - but they can't substantiate that information further. If we want to talk about journalistic standards, a fairly universal standard in most professional fields (completely ignored by many games blogs/sites - but not all) is the concept of having two verifiable sources, and not printing something in full unless you do, because that obviously reduces the chance that it's bollocks significantly.

It'd be pretty unprofessional to trash a game as completely broken in a news story exposé or something similar prior to actually playing it or verifying the claims themselves - and then if they did that and the game actually caught up with itself and came out alright, they'd then get shit on for spreading lies or whatever. People can't have it both ways. Think about it for a bloody minute.

I'm sure when this thing gets reviewed, whatever it is, if it's as broken as they've heard VG (and other outlets worth a damn) will make that very clear to the audience.

I think people are upset, or at least I am, that they bent the law to the breaking point, and then stopped. Don't bend or break the law. If you're under NDA, don't talk about the game you're under NDA for.

Plenty of people in plenty of industries do this every day. Then when the NDA is up, they talk about it. Just shouldn't have said anything at all. Now you're shaking consumer confidence in EVERY game that releases this holiday season, and that's not fair to the dev teams that put out a good product on launch.

There's a reason consumer confidence is shaken and it's not because a few journalists are leaking that possibly a game might be broken. Its because games are constantly being released which are broken and idiot's keep preordering them anyway. No harm will be done to any game that is a good product on release.

There's nothing wrong with them leaking information like this, unless you love sucking the teet of corporate bullshit. They are saying beware of fucking preordering and you could probably put two and two together and work out what game it is(but it's probably going to be more than one).

Fine, if that comparison is clouding the issue, i'll rephrase without any comparisons and we'll see if people still disagree

"Journalists should, in their chosen field, report misdeeds and consumer issues they know about if it can prevent harm, minor or not, to their audience. Moreso in the field of games journalism where publisher economical stranglehold on the field makes accurate reporting often hard and consumers are often left in the dark, even if journalists try their best, and actual opportunities to report this kind of things come very rarely."

Hasn't AC: S been delayed on PC?

With your own logic, can't be Battlefront either then after BF4, particularly with such a big franchise and no campaign to speak of.
At least I hope not.

"I hope millions of fans get a shitty game so that this thing I don't like yet am too childish to ignore can go away. "

I didn't want to say anything but it's hard to believe these YouTube level comments are posted by actual Gaffers here. The Assassins Creed hate here is pretty terrible. Wonder how was for Call of Duty before people just accepted it's faith eventually.

People actively wishing and hoping for the underperformance or death of a gameing franchise is some of the dumbest things I've ever seen on gaming forums.

Best wishes.

I like when the thread suddenly becomes self critical and people start acting like it's some extreme example of crazy as soon as it's discovered someone who doesn't like GAF is watching

C'mon it can't be AC. Ubisoft can't be stupid enough to pull the same fiasco they did with Unity's release!

Sure, there's no way they are dumb enough to release another wreck like AC:Unity.

But then again, we're talking about Ubisoft here.

Unless EA and Dice release an alpha build I don't see how that one gaffer's(who evidently doesn't know understand how serious NDAs are and is likely in trouble), comments hold any weight either yet that got an article.

I wouldn't attempt to make any judgment about why anything was done unless I did it. I'm just telling you what it WILL do, and clearly has done. The flames have been fanned, and people are more upset about games that haven't even launched yet, being broken at launch, offhand comment or not.

Well done. As I've said several times now; if you're under NDA, don't talk about or around the game you've signed a contract not to talk about. It's unprofessional.
