Videogames in movies/tv series

I was watching a movie earlier (don't remember the name, it was about a bank robbery)and a kid had a PSP with him. Anyway, he later on turns it on and starts playing a bad weird-looking GTA immitation which obviously doesn't exist.

This reminded me of the many many times videogames havem made an appearance in movies or tv series and helped me realize how bad they are. I remember having seen two children playing FFVII with one controller each in Charlie's Angels, and also some guys playing Twisted Metal with N64 controllers in another movie which name I can't remember.

Post movies in which videogames appear and if their content (sounds, software, whatever) doesn't match!

P.S: PSP is the one I have seen the most in movies...prove me wrong GAF!

Mario Kart 64 made a brief appearance in an episode of the Sopranos.

With Tony Soprano playing the game with one hand on the D-pad I think...or analog stick

Rumble in the Bronx had Jackie Chan giving the disabled kid a Game Gear with no game, magically making game noises

I believe the kid in Training Day plays a Dreamcast in one scene

More recently, Heavenly Sword and the PS3 was featured in the last aired episode of Heroes. PSP also mentioned in one episode. Sony money hats confirmed

Space Channel 5 featured in the movie Josie and the Pussycats

Beta version of Wipeout (?) in the movie Hackers

Kenan playing a PSP in Snakes on a Plane

One episode in the miniseries "Over There" had a guy playing Nintendo DS on the can (making generic noises)

Entourage has a few episodes of EA games in season 3. Burnout Revenge for the X360, Fight Night Round 2 (in season 2), The Godfather with Drama modelled in the game. Turtle also plays his PSP pretty frequently. Vincent also plays Halo in one episode.

And I think it was FFVIII in Charlie's Angels

There was an episode of House which featured the PSP prominently. Also there was a Monk episode where a PSP was some sort of high tech forensic device.

In Shaun of the Dead they play Timesplitters 2 and I think they're actually playing it.

CSI Miami had an entire episode built around a GTA clone. Some kids were imitating the crimes you commit in the game in real life, and keeping score. It was lame. As usual, the game looked modern but used, like, Pacman and Pong sounds and stuff.

NCIS:

Kid playing DSphat which is making pictochat noises Guy 1 says somthing like "Nintendo DS?" Guy 2 says "yeah its a good system"

DS was being played in green, green grass (just be thankful its not in america)

CSI: LV

About a muder in a retro themed Arcade "Please just leave me with the MS pacman"
The body was hidden in there

They also had an episode about a Tony Hawk-esue game where Tony Hawk actually played the corpse.

House played his GBA quite a bit until that autistic kid gave him a PSP.

And I've never seen it but I remember reading here that Kurt Russel gives his son an Xbox when he finds out his son has super strength (lolz now he can lift it!) in Sky High.

Just remembered the movie Stay Alive, God it sucked so badly. The cover even had an xbox controller and it was a PC game.

I was watching Reign On Me and when they showed Shadow of the Colossus, they added monstrous roars to the first colossus. My friend has my copy of the game and I'm not sure if they were originally there, but I'm almost sure they weren't.

"Reign Over Me" features Shadow of the Colossus.

Although that's actually a good fit for the movie, if you know what it's about.

EDIT: Beaten...I didn't think about the loud roars, though. Interesting.

heh, it's better than those stupid generic beeps and other sounds other movies usually add. Can someone confirm with their game, though?

in the break up vince vaughn plays GTA, Madden and Fight Night round 3 (with next gen graphics, despite holding a PS2 controller)

I'm a little surprised no one has brought up The Wizard. A whole movie based around videogames. Perhaps that was a little too easy...

I remember in one episode of CSI:LV they mention the Dreamcast out of thin-air, and Enemy of the State has some kids playing one of the earlier PSX racing games, and an Atari Lynx storing what I think is a Compact Flash card(wtf?). I can't remember what the PSX game is called. There's also Grandma's Boy, though despite that movie's basis being around games and other... substances... the only real game played was DDR, and I guess you can kind of say Demonik. Kind of.

Yeah but when Simon Pegg joins the game it says "Player two has entered the game." TS2 does not do that, although it's put in there for the joke that follows 3 seconds later.

Yeah, he was actually playing Metroid Fusion and over the course of a few episodes he was actually progressing.

Also, an older Mel Gibson/Jamie Lee Curtis movie- Forever Young- had Elijah Wood playing F-Zero in it with his friend.

And Elijah Wood was one of the Wild Gunmen kids at the Cafe 80's in Back to the Future II.

In Jurassic Park: the Lost World when the Tyrannosaur is stomping around the city at the end, a kid is playing FFVIII fighting Grats in the Balamb Garden training area. Its strange because his friend is holding a Playstation control also, as if they were playing a 2 player game.

To be fair, when I was a kid we used to play 1 player games with 2 controllers in hopes that some of those games might actually control the enemies.

What is the movie where a kid is able to beat up the bad guy at the end thanks to him playing DOA2 on an arcade cabinet in basically every scene he appears?

Desperate Housewives: GBA sp with Metroid Fusion(?). Bree called it a "stupid game[thingy?]" :lol

In the last season of Angel, Spike was seen several times playing an Xbox. Nothing was shown of a game, just some pacman-like sounds.

That's Charlie's Angels - Jurassic Park: The Lost World came out 2 years before FFVIII was released.

add Grandma's Boy too, which was total shit...

In the early ER seasons that one black male nurse was playing Killer Instinct. Killer Combo!

In the "Densha Otoko" TV Drama in Japan, there were PSPs all around... arcade version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, a Biohazard 4 poster, and some other things I'm sure to have missed...

In an anime called "Genshiken" you can see Guilty Gear Isuka from time to time, as well as TONS of tributes/allusions to other games... Puyo Puyo is in there too. :)

The 40-Year Old Virgin had an appearance by Mortal Kombat: Deception (which I think was being played with a Nintendo 64 controller?). I remember Steve Carell's character reading a Wario World strategy guide as well. I know I have more game appearances in my mind, but I'm just trying to match them up with the films since some of the stuff I'm thinking of isn't that recent.

Gilmore Girls: Lane's band playing Soul Calibur 2 on the GameCube a couple of times... later, playing Soul Calibur 3 on the PS2... you can actually see them playing...

Nathan frequently playing his friend Tim on NBA on PS2 in the first and second seasons of "One Tree Hill". Also, Lucas playing with a Gameboy in one episode.

In spaced they play house of the dead alot.. i think thats what it was.

Spaced had a lot of Resident Evil 2 and Tomb Raider, and some Tekken. The writer/main character is a genuine gamer, so it was really well done.

NHL 94 appeared in both Chasing Amy and Swingers (they even comment on how fighting was removed from the game).

That short-lived modern version of Fantasy Island staring Malcom McDowell had a kid carrying around a nomad throughout one episode.

The episode where he takes speed and stays up all night playing RE2 is great.

I love that show.
