Viewtiful Joe 1 or 2?

I played and finished the first Viewtiful Joe long ago on the 'cube. I feel like replaying it but on the PS2 (as I have my cube on the basement).

- Which are the extras in the PS2 VJ1? Are they worth my playtime?
- Should I skip VJ1 in favor of playing VJ2?
- How is VJ2? No Kamiya involved, right? I believe I can track down a copy really cheap around my town.

both are pretty much the same

2 has some different mechanics like the tag feature or VFX replay but thats pretty much it

if you have the ds i would suggest you getting VJ DS.. i think it was the best of the series

and i loved the VJ series (well outside of red hot tumble)

I believe the main extra in PS2 VJ1 was Dante from Devil May Cry. He plays very different from Joe.

VJ2 is a lot easier and not as good as VJ1, but it's still worth playing.

viewtiful joe is one of my five favorite games of last generation. it is brilliant.

v.j. 2 is more of the same, but feels less inspired and inventive. play it though. it's still good.

it will not make you forget how wonderful the original was.

I liked the first VJ quite a bit. The second one is less inspired and I hated having to fight all the bosses again like in the original, so I never beat it.

Oh I already have it, but completely forgot. I bought it in JAP and finished it. Might give it another shot.

Keep your comments coming!

I think you can unlock Dante from Devil May Cry as a playable character in the Playstation 2 version, but for graphics and in my opinion control, the GameCube version is the definitive version.

No, don't skip Viewtiful Joe in favor of Viewtiful Joe 2. Play them both! I actually like Viewtiful Joe a bit more.

Viewtiful Joe 2 doesn't necessarily suffer without all of the creative talent back, but it does feel like an expansion rather than a true sequel that expands the first game. I didn't like the character-swapping mechanic because I felt Sylvia was unintuitive, but it's still an excellent game worth playing.

Didn't like the second as much as the first, personally. Silvia wasn't near as much fun to play and I didn't like the stages as much. Sorta forced myself to finish it and then got rid of it.

yeah until you beat fire leo

because after that its pretty boring

wow, you mean the very end of the game drags a little and isn't as good as the 2nd act?

welcome to every game ever

Like Dave and Bobo said, 1 is SOOO much better. 1 is one of my favorite games ever, I never even beat 2, about half way through the levels just became so dull I was basically slogging through the levels just to see the next boss.

PS2 version has Dante, which in kinda cool, and if you're the type who will beat the game multiple times to get everything I thought he was for fun to beat V-rated with then the other character you get for beating the game on Adult. The GameCube version, though, has noticeably better graphics, and I would personally recommend that version.

I thought the last level was fine, and even if you didn't like, that's one sixth of the game, so it shouldn't really be a dealbreaker.

I only played the PS2 versions, but I didn't really care for VJ2 too much. Didn't like the new character. She didn't really add anything to the game that I liked and to balance them they took some stuff from Joe (I think?), which sucks...

I also thought Dante was a fun addition. He's very different from Joe. You can cheese the shit out of everything besides bosses with your guns, but that ain't stylish and he's really fleshed out so there is no need to do so unless you are crap at playing it right. I really should replay it... Tonight maybe? Damn you Ulthwe I was finally going to crack open Yakuza 2.

My PS2 backlog is too big for a lifetime. :(

This x100000

Most of the enemies in VJ2 were weak, and the game can be played much more like a standard beat em up(Just run up and mash) than VJ1. The bosses werent as good, the level design isnt as compelling, and it has slow down in numerous areas.

Its a good game, but falls very short of VJ1, and this is coming from a fucking viewtiful joe nutcase. If it matters, ive only played the gamecube versions.

VJ1 was the first game that made want to destroy one of my console. getting through that boss gauntlet stage took me forever. VJ is still one of my favorite games though
