So sad its over next week! :( Now what will I watch on Saturday mornings? I DVR it and watch it then.

Any suggestions? I'd love for another show like this or game of thrones.

There aren't really any other shows like this (or GoT) on TV unfortunately. At least not ones that are currently running.

I've never actually talked to someone in a show before but you have to know the answer to this. Right? But probably not allowed to speak about it?

Haha, no, I literally haven't a clue beyond the stuff I was actually in. Even then, we'd only get given a veeeery brief idea of whatever it was that was being shot to help set a mood or general behaviour.

It's actually funny how similar the casting process (in any big production) is in that sense to perhaps the actual logistics of the story. I was a Borg soldier. I literally had no idea what was happening in any of the other character's story arcs until they literally crossed paths with Jarl Borg.

Another effect of this was that the battle scenes were really a case of 'us versus them'. The Borg extras could only easily talk to, and make friends with, other Borg extras. When battling Horik and Ragnar's army in the first episode, it was the first time we would meet those actors and extras. Sure there was an inherent niceness to everyone but the people you could talk to the easiest were the ones on your side of the battle.

That and not knowing really who/where/why we were fighting until the fact felt like some sort of conscription or something haha.

I don't think I've crossed any lines here. Seems pretty par for the course for handling consistency and management of extras. But it was funny to be in the situation to think about it.

I wanna go back and talk about that scene between King Eckbert and Athelwhathisface discussing the Romans, am I the only one that thought that the scene couldn't have been historically possible? What I mean is how could anyone not know of the Romans or believe their works to be that of a race "giants?" Roman presence was quite strong in Britain and their forts and weaponry would have remained long after the fall of Rome, and considering the British tribes eventually rose up and defeated them (or Romans simply renounced allegiance to Rome) I find it hard to believe anyone would forget who they were. Also, Athelwhathisface also makes the comment that "they worshiped false gods" which also makes no sense. At the end of the Roman Empire Christianity was the official state religion and it was the Romans that established the Catholic Church they all follow.

I just found the whole scene strange and meant to further hammer home to the audience the popular image and somewhat disputed view that we are in the "DARK AGES."

It's a good question, I'm not really studied up on what the average Anglo-Saxon thought or was taught to think about the Roman structures still standing here and there, but the approx. 400 years (I think "Vikings" is set at just around 800 A.D.) that had passed since the end of any Roman government involvement in Great Britain would have been a looong time in a place where literacy existed pretty much only among the monks and some female nobility, especially with Latin (Old English was the common language in use).

But I think we should all know better than to be looking for historical accuracy in this show. (for example, the Mercian Princess grabbing for a Viking's dick under his clothes, out in plain public view and showing clear pleasure at what her hand had found -- wtf?! But, it's certainly entertaining to those of us who wish every scene with her in it had a Brazzers logo suddenly appear at the bottom of the screen.)

.

it's not as good as either of these but still check out black sails.

I've been meaning to. I do like pirates. How is the production values?

Also, will we get a Season 3 next year? Considering Travis is off doing the Warcraft movie?
Unless he dies(Ragnar)
, which is kinda hinted at in the promo in the finale next week?

Agreed, I'm not exactly looking for the most historically accurate show but surely a show on the "History Channel" should try not to steep so low into historical inaccuracy. I also forgot to mention Latin, the very text and "official" language they spoke came from the Romans I hardly doubt the average citizen was so ignorant as to forget where it came from. For fucks sake Hadrians Wall is in England, c'mon now.

it doesn't look cheap in the slightest. and also jack rackham is such an entertaining character. really exaggerated manner of speech but one of the best on tv right now imo.

Looked on my demand(at&t u-verse) and they only have the non HD version. I'm not going to watch this unless its HD.

Very cool stuff and thanks for the info. Too bad you were drafted into Borgs army and not Ragnars or King Ecberts. You chose the wrong side ;)

I love this show. Its weird how so many characters are so likable. Bjorn, Eckbert, Athelstan, Lagatha, and of course Ragnar.

Hopefully it'll have a few more seasons.

Warcraft movie? News to me!

I have to say I love the intro of this show.

Just finished watching episode 4. Wasn't crucifixion outlawed under Constantine I? Wouldn't it have been illegal in Christian lands during this period? Sorry if this question is way late, just started marathoning the season.

Wow, I completely forgot about that as well. Yeah, they DEFINITELY would not have been crucifying people in Christian lands. C'mon History Channel do a little research.

I dunno, this was centuries after Constantine and there is some possibility that a religious official would feel it appropriate for an apostate. I've tried to do a bit of digging, but it's hard to get decent information without getting lost in some religious mumbo jumbo.

I'd like to believe that but it just seems like a major oversight. I searched and I can't find a single famous case of crucifixion during the medieval period. Just seems like something that didn't happen. Not saying that it couldn't happen in rare cases, but as a punishment by religious officials serving under a king? Incredibly unlikely. I know they were trying to be symbolic by comparing Athelstan to Jesus, just seems like a major historical mistake in general.

Just think about this rationally, why would any Christian official wish to crucify anyone as punishment when the crucifixion is a symbol of Jesus and his sacrifice? To crucify someone as punishment would be to compare them to Jesus and that is not something I think a priest or king would want. The scene makes zero sense.

Wardruna are indeed awesome.

Thanks, I didn't know about them.

The show may lack some of the complexities of Game of Thrones, but it gets my blood pumping like few other shows can do. Great improvement over the first season also, which was already good but felt a bit "green", it had a lot of unexpressed potential.

It's my first time sticking my head into this thread, and I only did so because the whole Floki thing seemed like such an obvious double agent scenario that I thought it was strange that the show was playing it like he was legitimately angry with Ragnar. Glad to see I'm not alone.

Don't like what they have done with Floki. He was a favorite of mine in season 1, now I findd myself withing he'd catch a stray axe. I hope it's all a ruse to play Horik (why I don't know)

Because Horik's men are useful to have when raiding, and Ragnar doesn't trust Horik at all (and rightly so, given that Horik's now plotting to kill Ragnar's son). Having someone seemingly "betray" Ragnar would give Ragnar a spy in Horik's camp.

but scenes where he is interacting with his wife make me doubt. His turn was so sudden I wonder if they had contractual disagreements with the actor or something.

I figured the scene with his wife was paid off later that episode, with Ragnar watching the large gathering in the great hall through that screen. He was able to see how the gossip flowed amongst all the other major players, and if he wanted to sell the story of Floki turning against him, it would be more convincing coming indirectly through Floki's wife.

Like I said, the show's done so damn much to show that Floki's acting as a double agent that it'll be really strange if it turns out that we're supposed to be taking this all at face value.

Pumped for tonight, but man I hope the Floki situation is resolved in a satisfying way. His whole "turn" has been really forced and hard to swallow, and if he ends up actually attempting a full-on betrayal I will be very disappointed.

This shit is getting ratchet.

I don't know if I can handle what's about to happen.

Oh?

I better...
