Vinegar on fries

Malt vinegar on fries is fucking delicious. I miss Boardwalk Fries for this very reason.

Love it on fish and chips, too!

I go sauceless, because I hate soggy fries.

Malt vinegar or a vinegar based hot sauce are probably the best options though. Ketchup is way too sweet, and mayonnaise is completely disgusting.

I had never heard of vinegar on fries until I was at a place on the Jersey Shore which called them "boardwalk style" served it that way. It's interesting to see that it's actually internationally appreciated.

In hindsight, I don't see why I was surprised since I've enjoyed packaged "Salt & Vinegar" potato chips many times before.

The reason mayo isn't on fries in america also has to do with the fact that american mayo is basically just greasy gloops of globby fat with no taste.

So yeah.

A splash is good, but I don't like soggy fries so I don't drench them. I like fries with ketchup, although lately at work I have been making fries supreme, which is fries topped with taco beef, nacho cheese, green onion, tomatoes, and jalapeños. So goddamn good. Otherwise I like them with ketchup or mayo, or gravy. Pretty much the only things I don't care for are anchovies, excessive salt, and butter on my toast if there is going to be another condiment on it. Plain toast with butter, fuck yeah. Sandwich? Fuck no. Other than that I like everything. As a kid I was picky, but one day I realized that pretty much everything tastes awesome in its own way. Except anchovies. Fuck anchovies.

Vinegar and fries are a delicious combination. I prefer malt vinegar, but I occasionally use balsamic vinegar-especially if I am consuming sweet potato fries. There are few meals better than Brown's fried whitefish and a batch of fries with malt vinegar.

Fries are obviously best with carne asada, cheese, sour cream, pico de gallo, and did I mention the cheese?

I have to add that seasoned fries are the best thing to happen to french fries since someone figured out you can melt cheese on them. Especially curly seasoned fries.]

Curly seasoned fries + melted white sharp cheddar + hamburger meat (also seasoned) + a cup of creamy clam chowder to dip them in = oh my sweet ballsomeness I am in heaven.

Vinegar is good. If you are ever in the states the spicy seasoning packets for the chili at Wendy's is awesome on their fries.
Yes!
I first had fries with vinegar in london a few years back and I really dug it. I don't do it all the time but i definitely do it when I eat fish and chips.

If I have the choice, I'll take fries with salt and vinegar. Delicious pairing. I know you might think of vinegar and get an "ACK" thought, and a sense memory that triggers your tongue to feel weird, but try it once. The combo is fantastic. The vinegar is absorbed by the potato, and the salt helps to cut the sharpness. At the end of the day, what you get is a side of win.

MULTIPLE PICTURES OF DELICIOUS FRIES TOPPED LIKE NACHOS

Yeah, those look good too.

Ughhhh, I don't see how anyone can like the taste of vinegar on anything. Even the smell of vinegar makes me want to throw up.

Best thing ever to put on fries?

Vinegar on anything but salads and chips should be treated with extreme suspicion if not outright hostility.

Stupid question probably but does the US sell much in the way of Salt and Vinegar potato chips?

Vinegar on fries is how I was raised...half British and half Danish parents will do that. I love the combo, my only problem is I can never get enough vinegar to make them satisfying. I LOVE vinegar.

Salt and Vinegar is one of the most common Potato chip flavors in the US. Pretty much every single company, even smaller ones, offer it as a flavor.

I forgot all about this. 12 years ago in England I had vinegar on my fries and loved it. I really only use ketchup, but now I think its time to change things up a bit. Thanks OP for reminding me that people do this! :D

wtf thundermonkey... you're not actually a monkey, dude! :lol

i will never eat again

I actually hate condiments on my fries. Just give me some salt and pepper so I can actually taste the fries themselves.

I'll try vinegar when I get a chance, though...assuming I've got gum on me.

I like Vinegar on fries when it's readily available, but that's only when I'm in an English or Irish bar.

I also like hot mustard on fries.... whenever I go to McDonald's I always get hot mustard to dip my fries in.

Well, I buy them most of the time. (Along with regular and sour cream/onion depending on my mood. Last year has been mostly salt and vinegar.) Know some friends who prefer them too.

I rarely get vinegar on fries because it's often not an option when out and I generally only buy malt vinegar when I'm getting fish, and because I like to eat them plain anyway. (Plus the soggy factor mentioned by others, although "chips" are cut differently from fries and help against this.)

But rarely can you even get malt vinegar at places that serve fish. Half the places that serve deep fried cod, if you ask for "malt vinegar" they go "uhhh...what? okay..." and bring you regular ol vinegar. A fish specific place (we had a local "Fish and Chips" chain, also a place like Long John Silvers or even say, Culver's) has it, but a lot of places don't even have it. So you won't get the option.

I found it odd when I went to America and they did not put vinegar on their chips! I always thought it was just the normal way to eat them everywhere.

What do you guys think is the best tomato sauce that goes with chips. :P

I think my favourite tomato sauce is the generic stuff that you get from chip shops sometimes, if you have an idea what I am on about. For some reason it just tastes so good on chips.

Vinegar on pop-corn.

But it turns into a soggy mess. :(

Malt Vinegar is too strong for me, on fries I feel. Maybe because American fries are salty to the point of heart-attacks. :(

I'm from the UK so excuse my terminoligy when i say fries as in the thin ones that you get at BK and Maccy D, and chips as in the fatter cut ones.

Fries, no, salt and mayo/ketchup yes, but not vinegar.

Chips, YES, and i feel like i'm the only bloody person that loves pepper on them too.

You guys know what they put on fries instead of ketchup in Holland?

You're not alone my friend. But I'm an uneducated American.

Who also happens to love food from everywhere. Except Appalachia. Whoever thought eating another animals testicles was a good idea can rot for all I care. Disgusting.

speaking of malt vinegar, pouring a bunch all over long john silver's (all of it; everything) is the shit. if i could only pick one fast food joint to go to for the rest of my life--tragic--it would be ljs.
