Vinegar on fries

God no. I haven't been to a chip shop for a couple of years actually, but I used to have mint sauce and chilli sauce. That was a nice combo.

Dried chives and or chopped green onions on top of sour cream on top of giant bacon bits on top of chopped thin sliced prosciutto on top of melted cheddar cheese on top of french fries or boiled mini potatoes cut in half. Might also be nice to try with "carne asada" which is pretty much what I would call stir fried beef considering what I cook since I live in Canada and not California where there's tons of good mexican food.

speaking of malt vinegar, pouring a bunch all over long john silver's (all of it; everything) is the shit. if i could only pick one fast food joint to go to for the rest of my life--tragic--it would be ljs.
Sir, you are not the only one. My entire family is. But the only Long John Silver's in our entire town (Lansing, Mich.) went out of business and they didn't even bother to open one of those hybrid ones with Taco Bell/Pizza Hut...er THE HUT.

Luckily there's a local chain with two stores. Called "Fish n' Chips" and is a billion times better than LJS.

I don't know why I keep reading GAF food threads, they just make me want food.

Living in England, Salt and Vinegar is absolute standard to have on chips. I thought all parts of our Empire even the rebellious ones would have adopted this to cause its so damn tasty!

I save the vinegar from my sweet pickled onions to put on my chips.

Lemon juice is good too.

That food above is epic. oh gawd!
Edit:
Well, I mean the pic above that now. lol

Everything here is the truth.

Ok, what about just a dash of white vinegar on fries?
When I do that I find I don't even really need salt.

Isn't white vinegar used on the salt and vinegar chips or is it malted?

I love ketchup on fries (I don't eat them often anyway). Mayonnaise makes me sick every time I eat it. I don't like salt on fries either.

Hot sauce is even better. I'm sure there is some kind of hot sauce ketchup out there but I have yet to find it.

Anyone from the UK like to put HP Sauce on thick chips?

I can't get enough of the stuff!

Not a fan of HP unless in a burger

But lol you American guys eat some crazy combo's! It looks nice but I couldn't imagine eating some of it! I'm going to get some chips, cheese and some other shit posted in this thread. Looks tasty :D

I was at a bar earlier today hanging with some friends. We order the usual bar food and when the fries came I started splashing on a health dose of vinegar to which my friends were disgusted.

YOU MONSTER!!!

Mayonnaise and Ketchup all the way.

Oh and I miss the British Fish n Chips. :(

Since chilli sauce has come up a couple of times, this seems as good a place as any. Does anyone know a chilli sauce in the UK thats anything like you get in Subway with their 'hot chilli sauce' (not the sweet one) or most chip shops? I always buy chilli sauces and they're never anything like those, they're either way too hot, or not hot at all with this horrible sweetness to them, and they always seem to have seeds in them and stuff. I really want a subway style sauce.

Fuck yes!

HP is the god of all sauces.

As for hot sauce, Encona really is the daddy. I've never found it any large supermarkets, just the odd local cornershop seems to stock them.

Malt vinegar + fries = nom.

Anyone who disagrees is clearly a socialist.

besides, ketchup is half vinegar anyway

I had malt vinegar on balsamic fries and it was good enough to finish, but I wasn't a huge fan.
Right now, this baby is the money maker for me.

It's also really good on a turkey burger.

So like, can someone explain how this works?

Do you guys like...dip it in the vinegar or do you throw vinvegar all on it and then put salt on the fries?

I need pics, video, something to deter me from thinking you're all freaks.

From about 1.07 onwards

Stubburns, do you live in a big city? If so go to a Indian or Caribbean supermarket, they will usually have a whole shelf(if not a whole aisle !) of chili sauces, I've never met anyone who doesn't like the Encona Hot Pepper Sauce(the label looks different to the picture I posted, it used to be dark blue). If you don't you can usually get Nando's sauces in Supermarkets nowadays and they have 3-4 different "heat" levels & it isn't very sweet so that might do(I'll try Subways chili sauce in the week and see if I've had anything similar)

Love a roll and chips from the chippie with so much vinegar that it gets soaked up into the roll, very tasty.

If ketchup is the standard condiment on fries in the states, does the states have ketchup flavoured potato chips? (I've been down to the states about 10 times but surprisingly never once looked at the chip section in a grocery or convenience store)

No, because fries and chips are way too different.
