Violent standoff between Cops and Protesters in Baltimore

whats strawman about that?

More people are upset about the rioting, than why the rioting is happening. No one seems to be putting 2 and 2 together that this is what happens when you give the population no legal recourse of action, or protection. Black people are being gunned down daily, and no change is coming from our peers. Why does it take a riot to "get a message" out? The message is to stop people from being shot like dogs without reason. This isn't some sort of epiphany the nation has to have. Its quite simple to hold the justice system responsible and reform it. Very simple. But none of that has happened.

All that has happened is people telling black people to calm down about their children getting killed. That is literally it.

More people participate in the shooting threads, or any black threads, when its a riot to wag their fingers and debate about how rioting solves nothing. As if people in the thread believe that rioting is the #1 way to do anything. Rioting is a byproduct of oppression. Why people can't see this is obvious. America is a racist country, its not news.

There are no options to get America to understand its police force is targeting black people, and getting away with it every time. Its historic what happens when you oppress people. Why its confusing to people is lost on me.

Yup to all of the above.

We've had what? Six months of relatively peaceful protests and no convictions, no major changes, etc. NOBODY wants to see anyone hurt but you can't be surprised when the consequence of legalized harassment is frustrated retaliatory violence. While I believe in peaceful means of change I am not surprised a group basically marginalized by outer society deciding to torch some of those tentpoles in their rage (stores, cars etc).

Its also interesting to see the huge dichotomy between the Clive Rancher Tea Party incident where the police were seen as the bad oppressors, and here where they are innocents beset by these savage thugs, lol

I do agree that the protesters should be directing their aggression towards the police, and not local businesses.

You're assuming everyone there is there for the same reason.

There's always apathetic opportunists in a protest or riot. People just looking for any excuse to fuck things up.

I really need to read the rest of his post, I gotta know the reasoning behind burning a bucket of Chicken. I know it's racist, but just so strange.

This photo is in response to all those un-American black punks in Baltimore, chanting " Fuck America" while burning the U.S flag. As a proud American and coming from a long line of U.S Veterans, disrespecting our flag like that makes me furious beyond words. I love this country for the principles and foundation that it was built on. Countless people have died just so you have the right to disrespect and trash talk our country. If you honestly don't like it here in America, Then leave. It's as simple as that. If any of my friends have any American balls and aren't focused on that transgender washed out murderer, Then share this picture. I want this to reach Baltimore. Before anyone starts calling me a "Racist" or any of that crap, this picture is aimed at ANY pieces of shit that have burned the U.S flag. I have black friends/ old co-workers who also strongly disagree with Baltimore/Ferguson.
The black friends bit at the end literally made me burst out laughing.

Yes, very much so.

So you should be able to understand why CVS got looted. High schools kids tore up the CVS. Is it right? No. Everyone gets that, but its an after effect of the boiling point.

Its collateral. So yes, it shouldn't have happened. But it doesn't invalidate the problem at hand.

Ha, media is trashing the mayor for her comment. Lol

So is violent protesting the answer?

Is institutionalized racism for centuries acceptable? Is the only understandable response sit-ins and kumbayah?

Unfocused violent protesting isn't the answer. Some of these people are destroying their own communities in blind rage, but does that absolve those causing the rage? Also, some of these people are just opportunists and even people from outside the area. That always happens and it wouldn't surprise me if some of them were plants, like what happened occasionally with Ferguson.

Anyway, if more people focused on the cause of the anger and frustration instead of waiting for the effects to show interest maybe we wouldn't see violence like this.

I can't believe there are people implying the riots are somehow justified, as if Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement accomplished nothing without resorting to senseless violence.

3 questions:

What isn't being done to cause a riot?

Why has it arrived to this point?

What is the core, main, issue?

He is saying that the black community will suffer the most from these protests since those are the areas where people are protesting in right now.

I really hope these protests will accomplish something, at least locally. I fear things could get quite a bit worse before they get better.

Chicago radio reporting the White Sox are on the field taking batting practice at Camden like the game is happening but the gates to the park have been locked.

Makes no sense.

100% factually wrong. Every major change in human history has come from violent uprising. America as a country wouldn't exist if the American Revolution was "civil".

Read this a while ago, which involves data from 1900. Basically, peacefull protest have been a lot more effective than violent ones. So it's kind of strange seeing some here say that this is the only way things will change. Or maybe I'm reading this wrong.

Wow, this is unfortunate. Some strong images there.

Protesting and demonstrating can achieve a lot, but I don't think rioting or looting can help anything. I can't imagine what it has been like to suffer through all these terrible stories of police murder (and I am not American so don't have a full understanding of the racial politics / situation on the ground there) but surely rioting isn't the answer.

Bad scene. It appears America has some serious issues it just refuses to deal with.

Just look at all the upset people in this thread. It is a small sample of Americans who are disgusted and outraged by rioting and looting.

Imagine if we could get more Americans this outraged over police targeting and killing our fellow citizens. Shit could actually change.

Instead we get never ending deaths at the hands of police and the violence that follows.

We have a chance to change here. The people being killed are supposed to be our family. If ISIS or some terrorist group was killing them we would go to war. Our own police force is killing our family, our fellow citizens. We can't allow ths to continue.

I'm not sure, but I doubt destroying one's community is it

fascinating. So you have no solutions, yet.. you some how don't understand that the frustration that comes from not having any options, like you can't even come up with? Every "option" has been exhausted. They don't have a community. They are being told that they are less than other citizens because of the color of their skin. That is then verified by police killing black people, without suffering any consequences.

A great many of us are disgusted and outraged that it has had to come to this. I'm not at all surprised at the rioting and looting. It was inevitable in the face of a racist police force in desperate need of reform.

Speaking the truth is a jab? Lmao, okay.

Its really bizarre to see you care so much about black people getting murdered by police (winch is wrong and should be fixed obviously) and then not give a shit about someone in a dangerous environment where he could get killed.

Well this certainly won't help with the racist perceptions...

Are you kidding me? Has to be a joke account. The name, the guns and the burning KFC bucket..come on lol

Surreal that it is real lol
Don't forget him pouring out a bottle of grape soda on top of everything else.

Anyway, if more people focused on the cause of the anger and frustration instead of waiting for the effects to show interest maybe we wouldn't see violence like this.
Agreed. What have we seen? A bunch of cops getting off scot-free, more unarmed dead black men, and no new laws or changes of policy. Why is this not being talked about? Instead they are talking about the way the outrage is being expressed, they are talking about the particular incident and an investigation. That's not what it's about. It's about being treated with dignity and feeling safe to exist. Until something visible is changed to make that change, people are going to be on edge, they will be ready to explode with every incident. It's just like the countries we have turned against us with drone strikes.

Coming in a bit late to this, sorry. Have a question - Why are people looting so much? Just curious. It doesn't seem to accomplish anything, but I could be missing something.

Thanks to smartphones and social media, any crime you commit, whether you are a police officer or a violent protestor, will be documented and seen by millions within 24 hours.

So, now you have over-zealous trigger-happy cops trying to maintain order against over-zealous, property trashing, fight-instigating protesters/looters.

The cops think they're protecting their CODE. The protesters think they're in a RACE WAR.

Yay.

Just stay away from me - everyone. I'm happy being a boring nobody who just goes to work every day and eats Wawa for lunch.

Nah, you're not that person. You qualified it with knowing it was inevitable due to the racist police force in desperate need of reform.

People just saying "lol idiots, burning down their own homes, lol, SOLVES NOTHING!!!" don't qualify it with anything outside of announcing to the thread their privilege.

Possibly but the peaceful protests of the week have been ignored. The protesting itself didnt get any type of coverage until it basically became riot.

Well, stating that you don't give a shit about someone's safety because of the topic of the protest (that he might even support) makes you an asshole

Quote me stating I don't give a shit.

Its really bizarre to see you care so much about black people getting murdered by police (winch is wrong and should be fixed obviously) and then not give a shit about someone in a dangerous environment where he could get killed.

I told him to miss me with his post because we feel the same way in every thread about us being murdered, not that I didn't give a shit. His post rubbed me the wrong way.

This Dr. King?
I contend that the cry of "black power" is, at bottom, a reaction to the reluctance of white power to make the kind of changes necessary to make justice a reality for the Negro. I think that we've got to see that a riot is the language of the unheard.
I love when people pull out MLK to shame people.

Here are the areas where this is happening and happened on Saturday.

This area also is fairly poor.

This area is also classed as a food desert.

This Dr. King?

I love when people pull out MLK to shame people.

it will be ignored. Have to keep that black exceptionalism going.

also, add jfk :)

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
-jfk

But yes, keep feigning ignorance at rioting folks.

Shit is so transparent its absurd.
