Virtua Fighter 5 REVO: World Stage

WAit ...is this VF6 or something different? If it's VF6 why not call it that ...
It's VF6 but it's just called Virtua Fighter, the reason for this is that it will be the first game in the series to have a storyline so that vf7 will be vf2 of this new era new energy.

I don't deny that there is a downgrade, at the end of the first trailer there was much superior gameplay and that was lost, it went back to being a common game

What happened to the individual blocks?

Edit: nevermind, I saw a couple
However, there was a downgrade, this gameplay has always been the real one, the CES 2025 trailer was scripted but I confess that I prefer the larger characters than this real version.

I'm playing the closed beta on XSX and I'm very happy with it.
I don't know if the game runs at native 4K or close to it (my bet it is using FSR 3) , but the image quality is very good and the jump from the PS4 version is evident.
Otherwise, there's little to no new features, but it works great. I hope it catches more people's interest and they can see how unique VF is compared to other fighting games.

PS. BSO is 😍

Kinda tempted but I am working on a mod for the game right now.

Likewise. Installed VF5 REVO World Stage Beta demo on my Xbox Series X system early this morning. Playing VF5 REVO World Stage Beta with my trusty HORI Fighting Stick Alpha. Rank mode online plays very similar to Steam version of VF5 REVO from my laptop PC which is very good. With crossplay enabled I played most of my matches today against folks I had 80-100ms range yellow box ping connection with. I've encountered mostly Steam players and some Xbox players up to this point. I hope to eventually play some matches with folks whom I have green box connection before this beta demo disappears. Anyway, available options present from this beta demo are barebones, but I really didn't expect to see much outside of playing online Rank matches or single player Arcade mode. After all, this is really only a demo.

$10 is a nice price but really you gotta drop the $40 or whatever for the full content.

I'll stick with waiting for 6. I'm sorry but they can't use this games lack of support as a metric for a new VF.

They'll need to take the risk and invest because 5 is an old and dead game.

It's a multiplayer beta, so it was expected to be limited primarily to its purpose (testing online matches). That said, it seems to be working well in that regard, and that's important.

I think this looks fantastic. Compared to say Tekken 8 which is a visual cluster fuck and diarrhea of particle effects, this was refreshing to see.

Very excited for this fighting game where the majority of what's coming up looks like crap.
That overuse of ultra bright particle effects needs to stop, Asian devs! Crimson Desert, Tekken 8, FF16 ...

For anyone who is interested, the Steam version of Virtua Fighter 5 REVO has just been updated to VF5 REVO World Stage edition about 40 minutes ago.

I personally want to transition from PC to play Xbox Series X version of World Stage edition moving forward. But Xbox Series X version of VF5 REVO World Stage isn't available until midnight ET for me despite being already fully installed. Bummer.

Update: Almost forgot to mention that the add-on Dural content costs around 8 US bucks.

Did you like the Series X version more?

I was meant to be a fan of this series. Got a 32X on clearance with VF. Got the 3 free games VF2 with the Saturn. Got 3tb on Dreamcast. Actively bought VF4 on PS2. Only game I owned on PS3 for a long time was VF5. Got Ultimate Showdown because of RGG Studio. Ready for 6!

In World Tour change the difficulty setting to hard otherwise it'll be stupidly easy. I'm curious to see how good the AI is in the later arcades.

It is a bittersweet update on PC. On the one hand it adds single player content (World Stage quest mode and unlockable E costume items) 😍 and improves online play rollback netcode 🥳. On the other hand it adds a paid DLC character (Dural) that cannot be used in single player modes (except training) and mandatory Easy Anti-Cheat DRM breaks the 95% of mods that use Shin Ryu Mod Manager 🤬. I enjoy playing it and the World Stage challenges will keep me decently busy but certain things could have been done better.

I thought the online Rank mode for VF5 REVO World Stage Beta demo on my Xbox Series X system played just as well as the online Rank mode for Steam version of VF5 REVO, so I decided from there that I plan to make that transition once the World Stage edition releases for the consoles. Plus I don't want to deal with random odd crashes that was occurring while having long VF5 REVO online sessions on my laptop PC.

VF5 REVO World Stage is not a technologically demanding game to run on current generation PCs. However, the long playing sessions that I tend to have with this game can generate a lot of heat -- up to the point that a laptop PC should not have to deal with (this factor might've had something if not everything to do with aforementioned crashes). It is much better to have long gaming sessions on tower PCs in this regard.

Alright, I spent several hours going through World Stage mode in Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage and wanted to give brief impressions about it.

World Stage mode is really well done. The format of World Stage mode is similar to that of the format of Quest Mode in Virtua Fighter 4 Evo. There's a cluster of several arcade venues that host a large number of competitors that must be beaten in order to advance and progress up the ranks. The World Stage mode starts off at the arcade venue with the lowest level of comp, then the comp gets better as you advance. There's also a side tournament panel in the upper right corner of the screen that list any side tournaments that available to compete in. These side tourneys also have character custom items that can be won.

There is an expansive Challenge List included in World Stage mode that shows all the character custom items that can be earned, and what must be done in order to get them. The E costume types for every character are immediately awarded to those who start off playing in World Stage mode. However, there's still a lot of character custom items that's been left out -- S costume type for starters. Eh, I won't cry over spilled milk about this as I'm grateful of the things that actually were added to this game. Anyway... I liked that Challenge List is included because it gives a player a clear idea of how long to play through World Stage mode to reveal the items he/she specifically wants.

And finally, I later on went to play Rank mode online with crossplay enabled of course. I was able to play mostly folks who were in the 80-100ms ping yellow box range connection, and a few others who were in 60-70ms green box range connection. I played mostly against Steam players along with a few Xbox players, but saw no PS5 players. Overall, online Rank mode play for VF5 REVO World Stage on Xbox Series X just as good as I recall for online Rank mode play on Steam version of VF5 REVO on my laptop PC. The green box connection online Rank matches in particular are excellent for both platforms (I cannot speak on PS5 about this topic).

I say this as someone who has purchased the game three times now: this is some bullshit.
I am okay with it because they completely rebalanced Dural but her not being usable in Arcade and World Stage is some serious bullshit.

I have had some differing experiences with the online on Steam version. Some matches feel like the other person is right next to me while others feel like playing against a reality warper (hit interactions altered in realtime) that teleports.

It's good to be playing Virtua Fighter again!
☺️

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage is finally the game that Ultimate Showdown should've been four years ago: Proper PS5 support with flicker-free graphics, a serious single-player mode with lots to do and an improved training mode. Excellent! And the DLC from the PS4 version carries over, which combined with the reduced price for owners of the last edition is a nice move.

Spending some more time with this, I finally realized that it's possible to choose between different soundtracks (apparently Ultimate Showdown already had this option), which to me is a huge bonus. I've always found the music in VF really generic from VF4 onward, so getting to play entirely in the musical world of VF2 or VF3 with all these great tunes is a massive upgrade for me.

<3 i really need to pick this one up, how is it on Xbox? I think i own the 360 version of VF5 but its been so long i dont really remember?

I see the complaints about Dural DLC on here and then in some of the XBX reviews i saw someone complaining it lacks customization clothing options and stuff it should have?

the character selection screens across the whole game suck, i want 3d models, and if you are going to give me flat pics at least preview what the costume looks like for the various parts - i mean you have so many options with the yakuza, tekken 7, swimsuit etc.. but no idea what they even look like or which character they are going to be in the case of tekken 7 until you pick the character and the stage loads up showing you the model for the first time, weird bullshit if you ask me, and really the only complaint i have so far as a long term vf days since i played the first in the arcade all those decades ago

One person noted out in a video review of this, that having the uneven terrain of Virtua Fighter 3 is a big miss, they could have added it to this release, mix things up a bit instead of keeping everything just on a flat-plain, even Dead or Alive had it at one time

Have they brought back original VF5 music yet ? Not a fan of the new shit.

Balance of version B would also be nice to have. It got worse with later versions.

Hit boxes and other things would need to be changed a lot for this to work though.

As awesome as VF3 looked, it was a fucking awful VF. SEGA would probably rather forget it. I'd rather play VF1 or VF Kids than that shit again.

Nah, VF3 with its more interactive stages was ace and I'm still disappointed that they stopped pushing the envelope that way. After this, things were just getting more and more complicated (more stances for everyone, more complex systems) without adding much of a new experience or progress for the genre. I'm glad the upcoming VF looks more ambitious again – it's about time!

With Virtua Fighter Legendary Pack DLC you can change the music to vanilla VF5.

It was a very good systemic upgrade over VF2 but only when stage elevation changes were minimal and did not interfere.

I feel like Dead or Alive 4 pushed stage interactivity as much as possible without compromising the flow and balance of battle. I do not think Virtua Fighter 6 will attain a higher ceiling in that department.

It's all relative. Those like myself who have played a ton of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown before the existence of VF5 Ultimate Showdown or the follow-up VF5 REVO editions will immediately point out lack of custom costumes and custom items and naturally be upset about it. However, if you had not played VF5 Final Showdown at all prior to VF5 Ultimate Showdown or VF5 REVO editions, then you'll be just fine with everything that's currently on VF5 REVO World Stage.

Is this full cross play now? VF has a non existent player base except deep sweats on an obtuse discord.

If it's all 3 can play together then I may give them the $10.00 spot.

I know it has crossplay for PC and consoles but I am uncertain about the new handheld getting it. Lobbies have players at the moment.

It's so good to see a fighting game being sold as a whole package without season pass, fighter package etc.

Ps. Well, except for Dural, but that's ok

Just the fact that VF5 and VF6 dont have super/rage art is enough for me to quadruple dip. I really wish 3D would forego supers or at least, shorten them significantly to the point where they last less than 5 seconds. Tekken 8 is the worst offender in this regard, get launched? Enjoy 30 seconds of inactivity and a cutscene to end it off if, that is if you didnt lose the round.

Never was a hardcore VF fan but i loved VF5 on the X360 back in the day, how does this fare compared to that ? Thing is, I used to play with an arcade stick and I don't know if these games are playable/enjoyable on a joypad, also, I used to play lots of the online mode something which I'm not necessary interested in at the moment - just want some Sega music and blue skies and an arcade game for quick bursts of gaming - does this fit the bill ?

PS : fook me, there's a 35€ DLC pack and various other for 10€ a piece (Tekken, Yakuza etc) with the full "deluxe" edition being 50€ 🤔

VF5:FS with it's add on pack had the most fully featured customization of any fighting game. This was a result of drip feeding add on items into the arcade over 6/7 years through updates and the new versions (VF5 to VF5R then FS). By the end there was tons of stuff in there. Apparently they couldn't bring all that stuff over when they updated the graphics and had to start over from scratch hence all the missing items. World Stage added back one of the extra costumes for every character but I wonder how much more there is once everything is unlocked?

Well, each challenge that's been fulfilled unlocks one new custom item, so there are 326 new custom items that can be revealed in VF5 REVO World Stage.

Wow... near the end of World Stage Mode are real treats!
Two awesome new side tournaments appear! 100 Man Kumite Survival & 100 Man S-Rank Kumite Survival

This is probably the best fighter this gen has so far.

Yeah it should've been like this when VF5: US released. But anyhow, 10 bucks is fair game for what you get here.

This game still curb stomps T8, lets be honest.

It's literally the same game. 😂
John Candy No GIF by Laff

Different animations, different move lists, no corpse hitting, different throw/throw-break system, side-turned state, weight system, different stage layout, different balancing, different quest mode, different online code, and different graphics engine.

I can only recommend the Virtua Fighter Legendary pack for VF1 models for full cast, full series soundtrack, and VF1 beach stage. The rest is unnecessary.
