Vita + Destiny is blowing my mind

Yeah I understand for people in situations like this.

I mean I really understand for anybody, people will like what they like. But I definitely can't say I understand how one would have their mind blown by the feature as the OP. I'm always constantly aware of all the ways the experience is diminished by it, ya know? Guess I'm just a nitpick ;)

Lol, I can respect that. Latency, compression, and 30fps caps aren't trivial things to be concerned with. But I was definitely taken aback by how well Destiny translated to the Vita when I played the Beta, so I can definitely feel where Bruce is coming from here.

Hmm I maybe missing something here but how do you sprint? Been trying to figure it out for the past hour lol

I'll never get the appeal of remote play for my own purposes. Introduces lag, not full 1080p, not 60fps where applicable. And if I'm near enough to my console that I can even utilize remote play, I'm just gonna do it on my TV instead. Much superior :(q

Yeah I totally agree but you have to look at it this way. I work a lot (ha I already know what your thinking) and now that I'm older I just don't have the time to give to my favorite hobby that I wish I could. The Vita is of course not a superior experience or even a equal one but it's much closer than I imagined and with a game like Destiny that has a bit of redundancy for leveling up and collecting built in Its a great system to allow me to mess around when I have moments of free time and save the big events of the game for when I'm at home with friends. Does that make sense?

So my Vita has been dead for a while now. I have it plugged up and the PS button is lit orange. Every time I press the power button at the top, the ps button blinks. This is normal, correct? I figure I'll just wait for it to charge a bit.

A year? You are doing it wrong. Buy SSD. Buy a ton of great indie releases.

You have to wait a while for it too charge if its completely dead...lik 15-30min
EDIT: Also you should at least try some of the Vita PS+ games if you havent touched your Vita in a while

Gave it a shot, the default look speed combined with the fiddliness of the sticks made that first wizard fight a lot more frustrating than it should've been. Pretty decent otherwise, but I'm probably not bother with it again.

I tried it out for fun, worked pretty slick around the home. Only time I'll need it is if my wife is in the living room watching TV I guess, still kinda fun.

I played for like half an hour, never figured out how to sprint lol. Too lazy/proud to look it up.

The moon is so gorgeous.

I'm trying this out right now, and yeah, it works really well.

The control scheme is perfect, and the font is large enough to be readable.

Also, it's not the sort of game that requires pinpoint anything so it seems like a really good fit for a portable.

It makes my Vita look like a very next-gen portable. :)

Games you're going to be grinding in remote play is great. Diablo, Destiny. I wouldn't choose it as my primary method of playing through the game, but for just grinding out some quests or whatever for some loot drops, that's when it shines.

I agree that for games you're only going to be playing through maybe once or twice, definitely not worth gimping the experience so badly from PS4 down to PSV.

But the novelty of being able to grind out your characters on the Vita is nice.

Looking forward to seeing Driveclub streamed to it :)

Remote Play is definitely a 'next gen' type thing for me. Being able to play my games while up in the middle of the bush away from home was a real eye opener to where the future of gaming is going.

You can adjust the look speed. On the PS4 I set to 8 but I dial it down to 4 for remote play.

Well damn. This is fun. It's not perfect since aiming can be hectic (at least for me since on the console, I have sensitivity set to 5). However, using an auto rifle with a boosted accuracy if firing from the hip? Doing patrol missions is quite doable on the Vita. This is nice and I now have a reason to use my vita!

You can use remote play over the internet, I do it all the time, minimal issues!

So wait what you are telling me here is that I can play any of my ps4 games anywhere as long as there is wi-fi there. Holy Fucking shit.

So, is there anyway I can get the Vita for 100 dollars and less.

So I can't keep it on standby mode. Also, how long can the ps4 stay on without having any damage in the short/long term?

You can keep it in standby and when your Vita goes out on the internet to search for the system, it will turn it on. Just make sure you hit the virtual "playstation" button at the end of your play session and put your PS4 back into standby as normal, but through the Vita. You will only have the PS4 on when you're actually trying to play a game this way.

No need to keep your system on constantly, it's designed to wake up from sleep when pinged for remote play.

You leave the PS4 in standby mode and the Vita can turn the PS4 on once a connection is established. Once you are done playing you can also put the PS4 back in standby mode with the Vita.

I can't use RP over the internet because the gateways that AT&T U-Verse use don't allow UPnP. :(

Even though I beat the game that was the main reason I bought a Vita (P4G), I don't think I could ever consider selling the system. The remote play with PS4 is just clutch, especially when someone else is using the TV.

It's very easy.

On PS4 [has to be "activated" account] you get to pick if you want direct WiFi connection between PS4 and Vita [having a LAN cable to your PS4 is prefered, so that PS4 is not sharing WiFi with router] or via Router, and you also need to grab there an activation code. You type in that activation code into Vita and you should be good to go.

If your router is playing nice, you can play outside of your home if your upload speed is good enough [~5mbit or up] and you find good fast WiFi spot when you are away from home.

Fuck me, looks like I need to upgrade my wireless router and get some CAT cables for the PS4... I need some portable Destiny goodness!

Played the tutorial via remote play while in the bathtub recovering from a long run.

Feels good, man. Works flawlessly. The control scheme is even better than on the DS4 (not even kidding).

I have been playing Destiny through Remote Play for the majority of my day today and I have to agree that it's pretty glorious.

I played in bed most nights of the alpha/beta. Thing is so ace.

I'm trying hard not to fit in a couple missions/patrol right now, as the thing is on my bedside table staring at me.

i am really surprised how many people doesn't even know how remote play works. I am more surprised how they didn't even know you can game anywhere in the world as long as you have wifi.

talk about how horrible Sony is at the marketing. specially when it comes to Vita.

the system it self is really an amazing tech

HOW TO RUN IN DESTINY ON VITA

While moving with the thumbstick slide your thumb up till its also resting on the dpad down button and press it down.

You should be moving the joystick and pressing down on the dpad at the same time

I believe the PS4 has to be on.

So I can't keep it on standby mode. Also, how long can the ps4 stay on without having any damage in the short/long term?

PS4 can be keep it in standby mode. Remote Play request can turn it on because PS4's standby chip is always monitoring PSN services and coordinating background downloading.

While in standby mode, PS4 spends little power and can remain in that state as long as you like [same as when you turn the screen of the Vita, which is only limmited by battery size]. There are no bad effects.

I'm just voicing my opinion on where I think the industry is heading and what I think makes it worse. There are plenty of people in love with McDonalds, and yet I think that it's a horrible product of our food culture. It's really not about "the truth" which is something that can't be determined. It's just my opinion about what's happening and why I'm loosing more and more interest in gaming, especially in console gaming. Core value for me is great gameplay and no compromises should be made on that. And the foundation of great gameplay, besides the concept itself, is a high framerate and a very low input lag.
Fair enough, thanks for the answer. The reason why i asked is because it seemed to me that you were kinda annoyed that people enjoyed this solution.

I dont think there is anything to worry about. Remote play is just an addon, it doesnt compromise the game at all. The game is made the way its made regardless of remote play or not. Streaming solutions will also always be worked on, trying to improve it.

I am truly flabbergasted by the number of people who don't know what remote play does. Jesus, Sony.
I was thinking the same thing. The concept is so simple to explain, yet the marketing for it has been abysmal.

As for the poster worried about leaving PS4 on, it should be fine. My PS3 has been turned on for the past 4+ years (250GB slim) and still works perfect.

Just make sure it has plenty of ventilation and you clean the dust out of it every few months or so.

Now that I think of it I'm really surprised we have not seen any ps4 + vita bundles, I know there is not a lot of new games on vita, but who cares if you can play your ps4 wherever you're

There was "internet demand" for it, and Sony responded that they are thinking about it and will maybe test it out in some EU markets. The problem is, that bundle would be a hard sell because of its high price.

And this is coming from people who own a PS4 and a Vita and didn't know it was even capable of this.... Sony sony sony wth
Jesus you're right. And they're on GAF! Good grief, Sony. This is an amazing feature for hard core players. You know, the people who but hardware in the first year or two of a console's life cycle...

Yep. Remote Play is a feature I didn't think much of, and wasn't even on the list of things about the Vita that got me to buy one. I have enough actual Vita games to play that Remote Play is a cute novelty.

With that said, I have used it with every OS4 game I have, as well as the Destiny alpha and betas, and yeah, Remote Play is a fantastic feature to have. My PS4 is in the living room, and I often keep my Vita next to my bed so I can play it when I want, so it was pretty awesome to boot up RP and play infamous or Destiny, or The Last of Us while comfy in my warm bed.

It does amuse me how many people don't know how Remote Play works. It really is a cool feature.

This makes my day. Thank you.

I tried this last night for the first time. The controls take a bit of getting used to and I find the aiming to be a lot harder than the PS4 controller but otherwise it's pretty awesome.

And Sony isn't interested anymore to increase the Vita userbase. And definetly not on the back of PS4.
