Vita + Destiny is blowing my mind

I tried this last night for the first time. The controls take a bit of getting used to and I find the aiming to be a lot harder than the PS4 controller but otherwise it's pretty awesome.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I had to go back to my PS4 after playing a while on the Vita because the aiming wasn't as good and I kept dying on a hard mission encounter. As soon as I went back to the PS4, I beat the encounter like it was nothing. I also noticed I activated the grenades and my throwing knife a lot by accident. But don't get me wrong the experience is great.

Maybe someone on GAF has some insight. Just tried remote play on my Vita and it worked until I got into the game and did something stupid and pressed the power button.

Now according to my friend the ps4 is still on and I'm standing around like a Derp in Destiny. The ps4 will no longer connect to the Vita via remote play and I have no way to control the console for 7 hours now. Given it's fine and I'm not worried about it being on, but I'm curious if there's anything I can do to prevent this from happening or at the very least have a consistent way to get it to reconnect.

Essentially I have no way to turn the console off now or apparently reconnect. Is there anything you can do remotely or settings wise on the console or such so at least it shuts itself off automatically if the remote play connection breaks?

You need to recconect.

By default I think that PS4 will turn itself off after few hours [2?] if you don't use gamepad. You can change shutdown timings for both idle Gaming and Video. I changed mine at launch, so I don't remember default timings.

So you hit standby on your Vita while using Remote Play and now you can't reconnect to your PS4 even thought it's on? Reboot the Vita. I kept getting that bug so frequently that now I just shut off my Vita instead of putting it in standby.

Right, when I try to reconnect it just always says " searching via internet". Remote play will no longer actually find the console for whatever reason. Are most people able to reconnect with remote play even if the console is still running a game?

The only time it works for me seems to be when the console is in standby mode for some reason.

Gotcha. I will try this. Also, according to my buddy that I connected with. My console was on and like I said I was standing on the moon unable to move. Hah

Edit* I guess it's safe to assume the Remote play should launch normally regardless of whether the console was in standby mode or running a game currently?

So wait what you are telling me here is that I can play any of my ps4 games anywhere as long as there is wi-fi there. Holy Fucking shit.

So, is there anyway I can get the Vita for 100 dollars and less.

There's no better joy than, when traveling for business, finding out your Hotel's Wifi is good enough to play AC Black Flag on your Vita.

I was gonna play Destiny on my lunch break, but I accidentally turned off my PS4 instead of putting it into standby earlier. Now I'm sad and Destinyless

Hmm, I lose connection to my PS4 even when I'm in direct connection mode and right next to it...

Am I doing something wrong?

Wait a majority didn't know you could remote play through wifi when your not a home? Well another reason i bought my Vita last year since they announced it for PS4 first it was at home but a later update came for Vita that you could play it anywhere if you have wifi. And i have to say it works pretty amazing. Did Diablo 3 when i was at my parents sooo mutch fun on that little screen and even my parents where impressed playing my console nearly 30km away.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying the experience, and i can see this being a godsend for many people in various situations, but I couldn't do it. I don't like playing Vita games on my Vita, let alone PS4 games.

Direct Connection mode has been garbage for me. I turned that off and hooked my PS4 up to my router via ethernet cable (obviously not a solution everyone can make work). Now my Vita connects via my home wi-fi from anywhere in the house and works very very well. There's enough lag to make Call of Duty or Battlefield's multiplayer modes feel not very smooth but every other game I've tried has been more than okay.

The added bonus to this setup is that the ethernet cable with the PS4 gives me a better connection to play from outside the house. I've even been able to play LEGO Marvel over my phone's LTE connection (although this is the worst lag I've seen, so LEGO was pretty much the only game I was willing to try).

Sony have really done an awful job showing this feature off as I just showed a friend of mine it who has both a Vita and Destiny and thought this was some brand new thing. He had no idea he could do it.

On a side note holy hell they ruined the controls in TLOU. Using the back of the pad to aim and shoot? Who in the world thought that was a good idea

So I'm able to use remote play when my PS4 is on standby and connected to the internet, right?

I tried this but my vita couldn't find my PS4 or it was taking a god long time. Did I miss something?

Also, would I be able to play Destiny PS3 remotely on my Vita? I have both versions.

wait are you serious? lol
why..didnt they just leave it on a left analog??

edit: ohhhh. you mean they didnt remap the controls so you need to tap the top left of the back pad for L2 and the top right for R2? that's shitty
sony really needs to just build in button config for situations like this

Yeah exactly its awful.

Cant have you doing remote play when you can play the game using PS Now.

Hmmm this actually makes sense.

The PS Blog put up two videos last week detailing remote play for Destiny, so there's definitely some effort being made to get the Vita's mighty PS4 perk across.

I ordered this grip last summer and have loved every minute of it! Only negative is that you can't use it while the Vita is plugged into the charger. While I can see this being an issue for some, I have only rarely had an issue with it.

Or get the Nyko power grip for extra battery life, I have one and my brightness is always set to high and my vita last. They make them for both models.

I've been doing this. My SO likes to lay in bed and have me there instead of on the couch so I do PVE missions on my vita. I tried doing this at my university but the wifi on the vita is such crap when connecting to public wifi.

Does anyone have any tips on how to stabilize my vita on public wifi?

There are few things that helped me tremendously with a lagless experience of doing remote play when I am away from home.

1. Your PS4 has to be connected via an ethernet cable. WiFi connection just won't cut it.
2. Your Vita needs to be connected to a good WiFi. Sometimes my school's WiFi is garbage depending where I am, so I use my phone as a hotspot. Normally with 3 to 4 full bars of LTE will give me a great experience. But be warn that it eats a lot of data.

Sony recommends 15 mbit/s download and 10 mbit/s upload on both connection will make remote play work with really low latency.

2. Set your PS4 to never turn off. I don't know how many times I tried to play a game while at class and I would get frustrated because my PS4 would turn itself off.
3. Make sure you open the Vita ports on your router.
UDP = 9304, 9296, 9297
TCP = 9295

Following these steps you should have a great remote play experience whenever you are far away from your PS4. I hope this helps anyone who is having lag issues with remote play. The feature is fucking awesome and everyone who has a Vita should be enjoying it too.

If you guys have a Vita I can't believe how well Bungie has translated the controls to the small handheld it is going to be amazing grinding at work all day today.

Amazeballs my friends amazeballs.

HOW TO RUN IN DESTINY ON VITA

While moving with the thumbstick slide your thumb up till its also resting on the dpad down button and press it down.

You should be then be moving the joystick and pressing down on the dpad at the same time

I have tried ALL NIGHT to get this to work and even in the same damn room 3 feet away from the PS4 it lags out immediately and tells me my Vita may be too slow.

Have you tried the steps I posted above and still getting the same results? If so, have you tried disabling the PS4's direct connection and try connecting to your PS4 via your homes WiFi instead of the direct link?

I did. I forwarded all those ports. I have my router, ps4 and vita all setup as static IPs.

I still get a pixelated laggy mess even four feet away from my PS4. Whether I do direct or Internet connection. And the individual Internet connection tests on both devices check out fine and it indicates NAT 2 type connection on both, which is presumably what I want. I also have a pretty decent $200 netgear router that is only 1 year old and live in a small place that is only about 150 feet end to end.

Edit: after rebooting everything I got it to work fairly decently in the same room, but no dice at all anywhere else in the house.

Did you tried to check how many active WiFi connections [2.4ghz N for direct connection, G or N if you are using router] are in your surrounding [inSSIDer for Android]? Remote Play can crap out if there is too much congestion.

You cannot force PS4 to work on specific channel, but you can do so with Vita [in WiFi options menus] and with router. Changing active channel has helped several people to get rock-solid connection in their apartments where they can catch a lot of WiFi networks of their neighbors.

This one looks like it has "USB pass through" built-in.
