Vita North America 5th birthday today

Well it got the current 2 best JRPG's of the generation.

Trails of Cold Steel 1+2

The Switch will absorb all of its positive aspects from a Japanese support standpoint and have Nintendo's full backing so hopefully its legacy (obviously the good parts) should be continued. It's already overcome the pitfalls of it not being a full console experience and proprietary memory cards. I would love to see Trails of Cold Steel 3 ported to it it would feel weird to play it on the PS4.

Software attach rate is really great and Vita users are especially receptive to indie games and jrpgs thus it formed a niche.

still wondering, i mean the psp was still kicking until 2014/2015.

It'll be remembered as the most short lived Playstation device.

psp go or psv tv, not sure which went down the shitter earlier.

go looked slick, but with no psn support, i didnt give two fucks to buy it.

there were a few sales back then for 50€ and me dickhead was too poor at that time to bite the bullet.

now i regret it.

I remember so many people claiming that the 3DS was done when the Vita comes, but what kept me away from the handheld was the stupid memory card situation and lack of compelling first party releases.

Gravity Rush, Freedom Wars, and some other Japanese games held my interest, but that wasn't enough for me personally. That OLED screen was mind blowing though.

And considering its failure, Sony will probably never take another crack at the handheld market ever again.

Penblwydd Hapus, Vita!

I suppose i should really dig mine out from storage, cash in some of my shares* in big business and buy a memory stick so i can finally use the thing.

* I have no shares in big business, i'll have to rely on winning the lottery to be able to afford some storage for the Vita :(

I mean in general lol. You can say shit about the vita or Wii U without a rush of defenders hyping up its great underapreciated library and the amount of games they own.

As an owner of both, I will say I have loved both systems dearly. They both have their own big faults. Wii U had the GamePad and limited 3rd party support along with wide delays of releases of titles like going from Launch in November until February/March of the next year for next big releases for the system and, then, waiting until August for the next.

Vita has a bunch of great games, but most are targeted to certain demographics. The hardware for a handheld is great too. Sony dropped first party support way too soon and dropped the Vita far as wide marketing goes. I still think the proprietary memory cards are one of the hugest issues with the Vita when a big part of its identity is some of the digital content you can get on the device. It's very counter intuitive. It's why I haven't gotten a new memory card for my Vita and I've been surviving on what little space I have.

Anyways, even with its issues, I've loved the Vita and the gaming experiences it's given to me. I look forward to more in stuff yet released like Danganronpa V3 and some stuff I haven't gotten yet or finished yet like Downwell.

Thanks for this hilarious post. Oh ho ho ho! Those memory card prices~

Who's more defensive about their failed console, Vita fans or Wii U fans?

Actually, the people who seemingly feel some sort of obligation to shit up EVERY SINGLE Vita thread with a "lol ded console" shitpost are the ones appearing the most insecure to me.

Vita thread opens > people post normal stuff > someone shitposts about the Vita being a commercial failure > Vita fans get annoyed > It's somehow the Vita fanbase's fault

In five years of Vita, this shit is one of the very few things I've had enough of with this console.

It is the worst meme. Toxic. People have been saying it for years, either those that only played P4G on it for some reason, or those that never even owned it.

Most others have been enjoying the shit out of all the releases it received, and still is about to receive.

The biggest hater is Sony itself though.

I hope this is sarcasm, because otherwise this is the unquestionably most shitty post I've seen in a while.
It's a joke, chill the fuck out.

Yeah... I wouldn't count on Switch getting those Vita games. Especially not Falcom's.

I really enjoyed my Vita for what it was. It was a solid handheld and I had a great time with it despite Sony. I'm actually glad to see that Vita's legacy will be passed on to the Nintendo Switch.

That's how I feel about it as a fan of both Wii U, the console I've personally played the most this generation so far (didn't get a PS4 until late 2015), and Vita. There will always be posts about how bad a console is by people when it's a commercial failure. Just like there might be some people that enjoyed what they got out of a console/handheld even when it was not successful in sales.

I'll just enjoy what I enjoy as long as it has content that I love on it. I still have stuff on both of these failures that I'll play for years to come. That's enough for me.

Funny enough, I decided to put my vita to charge yesterday, and was kinda surprised how the switch has 2 of the games I considered a "big reason" to have a vita:

taiko no tatsujin (taiko V version is awesome)
Tales of (innocence, hearts R)

This made me hope that the switch receives the same support in those two genres as the vita did, I know, different companies, but with no portable game in the future for sony (at least not announced yet) it kinda makes me think about it

Also, I noticed that the vita is really thin (the latest version) and I wonder, which one is more slim? the switch or the vita second version?

I love my vita, and all the game catalog involved in it, I hope that, if sony decides to stop the portable world, then maybe, just maybe, the support vita got passes to switch

I need hatsune miku, djmax, IA/VT, taiko, rpg's, etc,

Vita Slim is 15mm thick and going by Nintendo's specs the Switch is 13.9mm Thick.

Still play my Launch Edition Vita on a regular basis. One of my absolute favourite pieces of gaming hardware and I still have a ton of stuff in the backlog to play.

I feel like I should pick up a second one as a back-up some day while I still can.

Wow, only 5? Honestly feels a lot older than that.

That was my initial reaction as well. I really had to stop and think about it - it definitely seems like I've had my Vita for more than 5 years.

Definitely my favorite handheld up to this point. It's too bad Sony never really knew what to do with it.

Happy bd you sexy thing! Still have my launch OLED Vita. Last year I purchased a blue slim, which I must admit, is much better to use. Love both of them though, and the Switch has me hyped as a "Vita spiritual successor".

I still have my First Edition Bundle Vita. Crazy that it's still beautiful and works perfectly five years later. This thing hasn't aged at all.

Damn that looks hot off the presses!

Love my Vita OLED and was also lucky enough to find 2 used PS TVs recently, will eventually get the slim.

There is so many things that Sony could have done for the device but ultimately they just gave up on it :(, will be very sad if this is the last portable from Sony.

I will be playing Wipeout 2048, Lumines, Spelunky, Binding of Isaac and others for years to come.

Also cant wait to see what else the hacking community can do with it, something tells me this is how we will see its full potential (hardware wise).

Not True.

Yep between the Famicon and Super Famicon they have about 15 titles that were developed by them. Good portion were published by other companies.

Wait change that. Some titles were not developed by Falcom in the list that I had pulled up.

Man I used to work at Toys r Us when it launched. Some people were so hyped when it came out but then games kind of sat on the shelf.

I got one a few months later.

I loved it but it got damaged so I sold it 2 years ago and bought the blue slim.

Still a great handheld. The standby mode lasts forever.

Dam I always wanted a vita. im excited for the switch but I wish the switch could look as sexy as the vita
