vita sold out everywhere?

I hope this movement continues... I really love my 2k Vita and have not put it down since I got it. My PS4 is dusty lately.

Though it saddens me to say, I suspect it's probably more like a lot of retailers aren't bothering ordering in more stock, rather than there's been a rush and it's sold out.

With PS+ basically giving away every possible Vita game someone would want, and with such a focus on downloading on Vita, retail software sales must be practically nothing. I can't imagine retailers wanting it at all, with the exception of to appease Sony because of PS4's performance.

From January to April, Sony didn't ship a single vita to any store. In that time, most stores reclaimed the vita space for other things. When the 2000 finally launched, most stores did not 'make room' for them again. I saw retailers carrying them, but only a couple and they were in the same cages as PS3 with no or very few physical games actually displayed.

Sony has bungled and mis-managed the Vita in every single step, but not giving stores ANY systems for 4 months essentially killed it in the retail space.

I found that Kmart online still has the OLED vita in stock. They even still have the Call of Duty bundle still in stock. I think that is pretty funny.

I really enjoy my vita though, I play it every day on the train.

Not too surprising K-Mart is a little behind here. Last I heard, they still allow for bartering with chickens, potatoes, and eggs and use slide-rules at check-out.

I was extremely frustrated with the Vita situation since used Slim systems were being sold on craigslist and ebay for the same or more than the Borderlands bundle new.

Every site was sold out, unless you wanted to pay more than MSRP.

I tried calling Bestbuy's central office to see if they could ship it to me from a store that might have it in stock. No luck. Through what I can only imagine was an act of god, I was frustrated and began refreshing the bundle's page on Bestbuy.com and the system magically was in stock. Ordered it, applying my 10% mover's coupon and checked out. Upon receiving my order confirmation it immediately went out of stock. Was worried it was some kind of html glitch but got the shipping notification the following day.

Side note: I then went to my local Bestbuy store to pick up a grip and saw that they had two display boxes for the Slim bundle on the shelf. I didn't ask if they had it in stock but this may mean that their inventory online isn't accurate. I wouldn't be surprised if they have the display boxes out but have no systems in the back.

This adventure culminated in me getting excited, hooking up direct connect to my PS4, and proceed to see an unplayable slideshow with DC Universe

If you want new... I suppose just wait on Amazon to restock?

Yikes

I knew that long run-down of stock of the old system was going to bite them in the arse.

Follow this guy's advice. Cowboom has great deals. Just got a PS4 recently for $264 with tax and shipping.
They also have sub $120 Vita 1000s a lot.

It might be confusing from how I initially worded it but I got the Vita from it miraculously being in stock on bestbuy for 30 seconds. It must have been a return that was placed back into inventory.

Not many slims have popped up in the trade thread, and there's only one on Cowboom. Not sure I would trust a grade 6 or less handheld off of there. Got a grade 6 PS4 that looked like someone had keyed it up. Traded it for a new one +$3 at Gamestop.

Yup. Between glacially slow sales and competitive demand for retail shelf space, Vita was bound to meet this fate. Why restock a system that nobody is buying? Why dedicate space to something that is just going to sit?

Retailers who don't restock are making an understandable move. It's up to Sony to try and win retailers back now. Good luck with that.

Try Craigslist.

No kidding? Maybe there is a demand. I got my Vita off Craigslist dirt cheap back in 2012.

Vita 2000 is sold out everywhere for me. I had to import a Japanese version. The OLED models are plenty at my gamestops. Having owned both the OLED and 2000, I couldn't go back to the OLED model. It sucks my 2000 version got messed up and I had to replace it. =/

The light weight/ergonomics + better battery life = is too hard to give up. And honestly, I prefer the LCD (the cooler colors) on the majority of the games I play (looks more natural). Only a few games with saturation looks much better on OLED. Of course, just my opinion.

They are practically flying off the shelves.

Undershipped. I remember when the Vita 2000 bundle came out, most of the major chains near me sold out the first day and only got like 10-15 of them. I mean, that's still really good (that they sold that quickly). But clearly they didn't ship enough of them.

It's been what a month now? This shows they couldn't give a shit less about the Vita IMO.

All I know is I'm sure glad I bought the OLED model, before the VITA slim came out. Sounds like a pain in the butt to find one (retail wise, idk about online).

yep.

The margins on hardware is small and they won't be selling huge volumes of games.

When you sell around 10k a month for as long as the Vita has in the US eventually something's going to give. 2K gave a boost but I imagine retailers have lost all confidence plus the low physical software sales. Too little too late.

Glad I bought a 2000 recently at my local Canadian Best Buy. I looked at there webaite now and almost all there stores nearby are sold out, when a month ago they had 3-4 PS Vita's per store. I'm guessing Sony is slowly phasing out the Vita are is going to be shipping ver low stock in the forceeable future. Seems the only way you'll buy a Vita is importing

http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00IP5SUXG/

Amazon France is offering it. Don't know if it's an import though. Is it the slim? Because I really want that battery life boost.

The Vita they're showing in the box is a 1000 model. If you look at the new bundles the Vita they're showing is the new one.

It has a PEGI ranking. So it's an European model. If you still have some doubt read the text in the picture they're showing. There is some of the text in English/German/French/Italian/Spanish and the rest is in French.

I'm never shopping for a 2nd Vita, and my Wal-Mart has black cases where all the hardware is kept, so I never know if they're available or not.

Production and retailer ordering is probably just at a stand still, 'cause even if there's a slight boon in sales, Sony's scared to react to another potential fluke and retailers aren't getting any high volume sales data, they're just getting an inventory depleted notice after maybe ordering 5-10 systems.

The reason retailers sell consoles/handhelds is really so they can sell the software as well where they make a little more of a profit margin. The problem with the Vita is that Sony has primarily positioned it as an indie game device/digital game device and most of the best games on the system (Luftrausers, Hotline Miami, Terraria, etc), don't even have retail versions out there. Sony has flat out said that they aren't producing any further first party games for the Vita and that development will be left up to indie devs and third parties (and obviously third parties are staying away)...so maybe with this change in strategy/focus for Sony, retailers are realizing there is no way for them to make money off Vita software, so why bother selling the hardware?

This is pure speculation btw...I have no inside sources or anything, but it kind of makes sense that a retailer is not going to sell a system that a manufacturer is actively trying to cut them out of the market of selling software for....if that makes any sense.

That there is demand for Vita is not good news?

That would be good news, but this story doesn't really confirm that supposition at all.

What we know is that Sony stopped shipping OG Vitas before the 2000 hit, which led to sales flatlining in April (in the US). Then, it got a sales spike when the 2000 hit, which always happens with new hardware, and Sony hasn't been restocking the 2000 much since it launched.

All signs point to the Vita being under shipped as the reason for the lack of supply, not demand.

If it is being under shipped, then it is not good, because it suggests Sony is officially ramping down its factory production and, as a result, Vita support.

That is over a month away. Did Sony just flat out stop producing them as well?

I'd say they probably tried to control production a bit more but it seems they underestimated demand greatly. Such a shame to because it seems like people really want a Vita with the 2K but they can't find it. Vita just can't catch a break with Sony at the helm it seems.

The GameStops in my district have been sold out of em for a while so I asked my Sony rep a few days ago when I saw him. He said we should be getting some more in "soon," when that is though... Il check tomorrow when I get in to see if any are in transit.

Sony produced a very small number of these units. It's sold out everywhere yet last month's NPD only saw it sell about 50k.

I heard this on the bombcast too, and checked out shops in my local area and sure enough a majority are sold out. Is it really unprecedented demand, or maybe Sony is already making way for a Minecraft bundle in August?

Holycrap, where are all the Vitas? I can't find mine and wanted to see if they had the newer models. Sold out or not available at stores anywhere. What the heck is happening?

It seems even Polygon has picked up this story. Sony blames the shortages on strong demand and that they are working to replenish stock in time for the holidays.

At my store we stopped getting any OGs when the Borderlands one was up for preorder. After it cam out we had about 10 preorders with 20 in stock sold out in about 2 day and have not gotten any or been able to order any since.
