Vita Tales News Possibly Coming Soon

Guys, there was already a Tales MMO in 2006, Tales of Eternia Online. It flopped, and was only online for about a year.

There was also a song from the sound track on the Me & My Katamari sound track, tucked away on the second disk:

Why do I get that feeling that we're gonna see a TOS port on Vita? (Guaranteeing that it'll never be released worldwide because Nintendo own the rights to the English language version)

Tales of Cooking - Tales characters teaching you how to make various dishes.

Or maybe a Symphonia remake or Destiny PS2 Director's Cut port.

Wouldn't that translation actually be owned by the company who created the game (Namco)? It has been many years since Symphonia was released on GC, I doubt that contract is still valid.

Yeah, looking into the credits, I believe the translation was done in house by Namco.

I do think Nintendo owns the Translation to the second Baten Kaitos game though.

dear namco can we have some word with your localization department?
like... you know... xillia release date? graces f release date?
about the port... how about a port of tor or tod2? you know, that would be appreciated...

Honestly, Tales of Graces F would be easy to port over. Same with Vesperia. Anything really could be ported to Vita.

But 2D games don't really benefit from being ported onto a much higher resolution system. :(

It's nice sometimes to think that one day we'll be able to play a 2D tales game in the west again.

As long as it's not a new Tales of Versus. That game was horrible.

I'd probably buy a Radiant Mythology 4 but would prefer a port of an older game I think.

Nintendo completely funded the localisation for TOS 100%, in exchange for exclusivity in the west.

This is why TOS PS2 never got released outside of Japan.

I wasn't aware vs. stunk. If they'll announce something "soon" it'll probably be an up port and my vote would be rebirth.

But that was 7 years ago. Licenses to publish things expire and usually the translation reverts to the original owner (in this case, Namco). We've seen this with some of the retro DD games originally published by non-subsidizes. I remember a Bomberman game on PSone that was actually translated by Atlus back in the day. Hudson published that game on PSN, with the exact same Atlus translation.

True, but who knows how long Nintendo have exclusivity for? It might have expired, but there's a good chance that it might still apply.

Besides, there have been plenty of times where older games have been subject to translation rights issues. Most of Working Designs releases are problematic for re-release, as I'm sure Vic himself here would tell you
(Psst, that's your cue Vic!)

Also, who's to say that Atlus aren't getting a cut of the PSN sales for that game?

That was my opinion anyway. Sold it the same day it arrived, just couldn't get on with it at all.

Well, to be honest I don't know if Atlus and Hudson brokered a deal for that. I wouldn't think so, but still. I'm using the mentality from the anime fan portion of me, where any dubs/subs produced by a company revert to the Japanese owner once that company's license expires, and those goods can be licensed out by other companies.

Well we share similar taste so I wouldn't doubt you felt it was rather horrid. The worst kind of burn is day one though.

is another Tales of the Abyss port completely out of the question? only one mention in this thread...

It could be another version of Tales of Phantasia. Your guess is as good as mine.

Sources? I treat that as urban myth the same way people keep saying that MS did just that for ToV. I'm sure Namco doesn't mind such kind of rumors though as that deflects their blame of no releasing something onto other parties.
Btw. ToS' translation was done by the people who later formed 8-4.

My guess it that we'll get the complete version of Xillia on Vita. Wasn't there an uproar in the Japanese blogs because they found slots in cutscenes, in which additional characters could be put, like they did in Vesperia?

I think you meant 8-4. ;p

And I've wondered the same thing. Many have asked but never a source.

Edit: Swift edit.

C'mon PS3 port of Vesperia finally localized. I need my pirate loli stat.
Scamco's top men, Mr A and Mr B, will one day observe western Xilia sales, and be positively surprised.
A: "Hey, who'd have thought PS3 Tales would sell so well in the west. We really should have brought Vesperia over, huh?"
B: "Yeah, in retrospect, maybe we should have done that!"
A: "But it's too late now! Haha!"

Group: high-fives.
