Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

Why is this game coming out the same week as Gears of War? They really should have released this in September. I can't believe the X360 has gone a whole year with only one game I wanted to buy (Oblivion back in March) and now the only two games I want to buy for the rest of the year are coming out days apart.

Is this the first gen where the primary user is Dad, who is more than happy to share their fav hobby with their young kids through games like VP? At least in quantity.... I shared SNES games with my kids; on MY SNES... but now there are likely a LOT of 30-ish dads of 4+ year olds that will benefit from this situation.

That sounds like a personal problem.

I'm sure they meant Europe. I doubt the release date will move this close to it.

The Rare crew stated first week of December and worldwide release with the difference on every region being no more than a week or less.

:lol that was great

hey axxxj, if you´re insider, any news about the soundtrack being released ? the mp3 on the FSK were very good.

This game has been a rollercoater for me...

- when it was first announced i was hyped, looked great
- then i didn't think it was deep enough and too kiddy for an adult
- now after reading some comments and stuff, it sounds deeper than i thought and has become a Day 1 purchase, especially with the $49.99 price tag... meaning it should be available for $39.99 somewhere

Well, game has a commercial, still slated for 11/9 according to EBGamestop. I guess we'll see. I'll call them in a week or so.

Same here. But I wish more information would come out about it. There are alot of question marks regarding this game.

You could say that. I'm content just using Gamefly to experience most X360 games. I don't think many of them are worth buying. But it's undeniable that MS made a mistake releasing their only two holiday games in the same week. There is no logical reason why GoW and VP should come out so close. Even if they appeal to different people, with so few X360 games out there you have to put some space between these.

The actual game will not feature the voiceover actors featured in the cartoon series...or any of those characters like Horstacio, will it? Fingers crossed, because I find them very annoying.

The only reason I could imagine them doing this, is if they are planning a pricedrop on that date, which I really doubt.

No luckily the main game only has rares typical chirps and sounds for them, and not these voice actors.

Generally speaking i think you´re right but i read somewhere, or maybe was xboxyde´s Leipzig video, where it was said that the game would also include voiceovers so very young children with reading difficulty could also play the game without the need of reading all text.

Yep. Voices will be localized for every country the game will be sold, just like the text. A japanese version of that game could be fun to listen :)
The pinatas themselves won't talk of course.

I've seen the game in action (yesterday actually) and it looks gorgeous. Definitely one for the LSD crowd. I know i'll be playing it completely blitzed. It's mezmorizing...

:lol we should be xbl budz

love the commercial. I *really* hope this game is doing well, Rare deserves it. Almost as much as the Rare haters do.

I was way way interested in this ... but as soon as i ever heard one of those bastard Pinata's actually talk (saturday-morning cartoon style) ---- it completely lost that abstract 'cult' wierdness edge ... i still may give it a go though, but it's not as WTFBBQ as it seemed from the first shots we ever saw

Thats great. More reason to blindly hate the game.

Fortunately for you, they don't talk in game, but rather make little, appropriate noises. Like the Sims, only less annoying.

IGN Hands On
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/742/742357p1.html

As soon as the demo started, we watched Rare's homegrown garden get flooded with sour piñatas. These guys will come into your town and cause some sort of mischief. Some of the sour actions we saw included stealing your piñata eggs, killing off your sick piñatas, or dropping sour candy that makes your residents sick when they eat it.
The hectic environment can also be managed with some helpers. Going to the village to enlist these guys is just a few button presses away. Give them some money and they'll offer their services until you ask them to leave. We saw a hunter that would go get track down a piñata for you, though only if you've had it as a resident of your garden in the past. There also was a worker who would water your plants for you and another that would build houses for you.
The day night cycle was in full effect during our demo. We saw flowers closing up at night, nocturnal piñatas make appearances, and some nice lighting that the night time was especially good at showing. It rains in Viva Piñata, though it takes place in a tropical zone free from snow. The rain will water your flowers, so planting a ton of new seeds during a storm will take a lot off of your workload.
When the first show up, it means they've seen something they like and they'll be black and white. A moth piñata, for example, will only come at night and then will only stay in your garden if you have a lamp. Others will only come to be residents of your garden if they smash and eat a specific type of piñata they find within your borders. Creepy.
There is a surprising lack of structure to Viva Piñata. You're on your own to shape your garden how you please and find out which actions will attract each type of piñata. There aren't any tasks that you have to complete or even any direction early on or late in the game.

Game sounds like a ton of fun.
