Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

Animal Crossing's primary audience is adults...

Not sure exactly what your point is there....

I wasn't trying to slam Animal Crossing in any way, mainly contrasting it for it's pacing and instant-appeal compared to the very instructionally, menu-heavy nature of Pinata.

Sorry if my post wasn't very clear.

Oh, I didn't understand. Sorry. I was just saying that simulations, by their very nature, aren't very appealing to kids. After playing VP for a few minutes, yeah, children are going to be completely baffled by this game.

Holy crap... I just cancelled Rainbow 6 to pick up this + Lumines 2

Crazy move, but I already had Fear, GOW and COD3 all this week.

I'm hoping my wife digs the game....

This game is AWESOME, the only thing that's pissing me off is I don't know how to get more garden coverage.. is there any way to expand the garden passed the initial square? Because its getting crowded.

From Gamesradar's review, I think it expands as you play.

Level up. Every ten levels or so, you get a larger garden.

Try planting different plants and romance pinatas. At most, focus on two or three types of pinatas at once. Also, having 7 of any pinata type in your garden automatically gets you master romancer for the species, which gives you a huge experience boost.

If you try to bring in too many pinatas early in the game, you run a higher risk of introducing pinatas that don't get along, which will set you down a fast path to pinata anarchy that can only be cured by scaling back.

You can trade online once you get the post office, which is available at a certain level. I have no idea when you can actually inhabit another player's garden.

I just nabbed the game. I named my garden Demi's Crotch. I have already expanded the game beyond it's intended ESRB rating! Now let the pinata ****ing begin!

:lol didnt know you can name the garden.

Btw, have any of you tried to design your customized piñata tag/label? how much freedom is there?

I was gonna wait and get an MS store discount from my brother but I think I need this game ASAP. I hope stores in town have it :(

off topic: anyone know if you can get an MS store discount with Gears, since it's not an actual first party game?

well when you start the game it just will say your gamertag like "Orodreth's Gardens" but you can change it however you want.

Since it's published by Microsoft I'm pretty sure you can.

Rare!=Epic

read my post again, take a deep breath, and continue posting on GAF.

I've gotten pretty far so far but.. I still don't know if there is online co op? Does ANYONE know the online modes? I mean there is a video talking about online saftey on the menu of all things.

No one ever said there was online co-op. There's trading stuff and there's inhabiting other gardens. This is the price you pay for getting a game so early. Just give it a little time and we'll figure out how you do everything.

Do you have a post office yet? See if you can use it to trade things. It's in the instruction booklet...

The manual actually does say you can do online co-op, but I'm sure you really need to get into the game before that comes out.

I can't figure out how to draw in some of them. I want to get the Doenut into my garden, but it won't come in even though my whole garden is covered in grass. Do I need to get much thicker grass to draw it into my house?

Uhhhh... wtf... Viva Pinata is actually really fun and addictive. :(

I've been playing it on and off all day and FINALLY understand the core mechanic of this game (i.e., the darwinistic cycle of feeding a smaller pinata to a bigger one so it gets horny so it'll have sex with another pinata, which gets you money and a bigger population -- and repeat). It's surprisingly deep and very disturbing if you look beyond the gorgeous kiddie aesthetic.

Uhh... FFXII, Gears, and Viva Pinata this weekend. Wife am crying.

Hey chespace, mind telling us how this online co-op aspect works? Is it something Rare's adding at a later time, because no one here has a clue how to do it.

Yeah, I'm pretty much in love with this game. People need to buy it so Rare gets to try something else new and interesting.

Traps, I *think* you get a special trap to stop a specific sour AFTER you tame it, there are these totems that reside outside the gardens boundaries that you can activate/turn off, and I think each one signifies a sour pinata, turning it on stops them from coming, turning them off allows them to show up.

But thats not my confirmation, this is my assumption.,

I have a 'shelly bean' and a new totem for taming it.

No co-op but you can send animals and other things to folks on your friends list.

The graphics in this game are incredibly good. Some of the art direction is really disturbing.

I have a hard time believing this game is simply just for kids. I'm sure kids will get off on the visuals, but everything about this game in terms of gameplay and UI/menu will appeal to a hardcore gamer who's used to playing games like Animal Crossing, Sim City, and Monster Rancher.

I don't know why but this game totally reminds me of an old Bullfrog sim game.

I think this game would work for kids on a different level che, kind of in that 'im ****ing around in this garden with monsters' but it definately wont be the pokemon for them.

It definately is more for adults, there is a LOT of depth and complexity to it, this is more of a game for the parent to play and kid to watch.

Btw, if anyone has their Xbox Live 48 hour trial code that came with the game and already has a subscription, feel free to PM one my way.

The one that came with my game doesn't work, and since I have a 56k connection, I obviously don't subscribe to Xbox Live (but still use it for my Texas Hold Em', Uno, and Marble Blast Ultra fix).

Wow, I'm starting to really get into this game.

You can make a lot more money by selling off a critter or two to build homes for the others.

Something about this game just feels so wrong and evil when you make these things mate and then sell off their youngins. :)

Right now my money maker is buying romance candy and forcing the sparrows to constantly mate, then selling their off spring :lol

Or when you make them repeatedly have sex with each other just so you can get chocolate coins.

Right now I am trying to get a second fudgehog so I can force them to repeatedly have sex and then sell their offspring, which go for 1000 chocolate coins on the Pinata Island black market.

I can't believe we europeans have to wait another month for this game.

I am more excited about viva pinata than gears reading this comments.

Alright, so this Sparrowmint pinata got sick, and I didn't want to pay to have the doctor come because the doctor is a ripoff, so I just beat it to death with my shovel and fed its candy innards to other pinata

Haha, some of the "romance dances" in this game are just hilarious and full of adult humor and innuendo.
